    Even though I have a long history of uninterrupted work, with Covid I have now been out of work for 2 years and it’s frustrating employers aren’t even giving me a chance. I wanted to take some time off to take care of myself and rejuvenate after working nonstop for more than 25 years and had no idea Covid would extend the gap for 2 years. I recently just put freelance on my resume because trying to explain the gap is difficult. No one wants to hear about your health or that you simply chose not to work for a bit but then got caught up in the Covid job drought. I’m overqualified for many jobs and I either get shunned because of that or shunned because of simply not working. It’s unfortunate I’m not simply judged by my abilities.

    @@AnnaSzabo I finally got a job offer In November. Still there now. You will find something. Companies that ignored me last year are calling and emailing asking if I am still available because they’re all hustling to fill those jobs, especially since so many people are quitting. That’s what happens when you don’t fill jobs and overwork those left behind. 😓

    Though, I am watching your videos first time but the way you explained things are really appreciated and helpful Sonal. I have been searching for a job and have not at all lied with anyone of the employer. After ,2017 have taken a break due to family reasons as my mother was sick and then I also got married and have bought a life to the World. But you know they (HR) they sound very positive on the call and also say they are sharing JD on mail but have not seen anyone coming up really. Why don't you create videos for the HRs to understand all these parameters. It's really frustrating that you are sitting idle from last 6 months and have followed all the tips but still. No hope now to restart my career 😢

    I know you've mentioned health issues but does that include mental health break? Because I feel, there's a stigma about it and then there's the fear of appearing weak. Just because you've dealt with something like depression, life shouldn't stop. And instead of a tactical answer, I would just tell them what it is because the thing with mental health is that the healing is not linear. How do we explain a mental health break? I am sure many gen z and millennials would want to know but won't ask.

    Good question. I think that’s where it goes into too much detail and should share only what one is comfortable sharing. I talk about it in the video, the tiny details about the illness, nope. None of their business. As long as you’re well now and ready to go. Hope that helps.

    Dear Sonal, Thank you very much for your very insightful video. I was wondering how you would deal with a "GAP" where you did several different things but in terms on space on the CV you cannot really fit them all, how would you present it title wise on the CV and how would you structure it given the lack of space (I have about 5 lines so max 3 bullet points): - October to November I took a full-time Russian language course in Moscow - January to February I took some time to travel across the Scandinavian countries and get a feeling of which one I wanted to settle down on - March to July I spent 3 months volunteering at a School (teaching German), and then 2 months doing a gardening project, both in Denmark - August to November I took some intensive Danish classes and started to settle down in Denmark Parallel to all of this November to March I joined an Eu-funded Pilot program for a learning transnational platform collaborating with people from different EU-nations to different projects (part-time) - December I started a Job in Denmark Before listening to your video, I had this 1 year period on my CV only detailing the Pilot EU-Funded program I took part into March-November stretching it a bit further to cover the entire period, but I never felt about it. Also it was not paid work, so I was always worried about recruiters asking about it. I would like to pull out the variety of things I did in a clever "strengths-prone" approach. Any suggestion?

    Hi in India do you think the HR and hiring managers will accept the gap in employment due to Travel. Correct me If I am wrong. Also, I have faced situation answering honest questions due to my gap and was rejected and not taken in a positive manner. It's hard to penetrate the interviewers mind for what they want as an appropriate answer. They had their set of answers which they want from our mouth to listen and will select you on the basis of their satisfaction. in recent days accepting truth is the biggest hindrance.

    All the GAP examples are from a Female point of view, Mam, can you give example from a Male perspective in your future videos. Basis my experience of giving explanation of GAP, HR and Hiring Managers aren't keen to hear answers at all, as so much supply of work force is available here in India. I feel, your answers are apt for the US, UK and Europe, not really valid for India, basis my experience.

    Thanks for watching Vijay. To answer to your comment: More and more people, men and especially dads are facing layoffs. And child rearing is no longer a woman only job. So these answers are universal for parents. My videos help many people across geographies, including in india. Of course, your experience can be different. All the best in your search Vijay. PS: I have another video from 2021 on this topic.

    4:09 If a person just stays with a job for 3-5 years, would he/she still be considered as a job hopper in recruiters' eyes?

  • @SuperChargeYourself

    @SuperChargeYourself

    5 жыл бұрын

    First1000Hours i don’t think so. Especially in this day and age, when millennials are known to stay on average for 8 months (!) per job, some would even call 3-5 years a medium to long term employment duration! All about perspective, and in my opinion, what matters is WHY the person left, whether the reason comes across as genuine or fickle.
