Send in your lifting clips HERE for me to review your technique in a future video - cbrennan35@gmail.com
Welcome to this tutorial on one of my signature events - the Deadlift. Being known for my narrow stance in this event, hopefully this video gives some insight into my technique as well as tips to help YOU improve your deadlift.

"I'm not a huge huge guy." Next sentence: "I'm 145kg and 6ft 3." Nah you're pretty huge mate. Some great tips in this video though enjoyed it.

Exactly. I prefer the more mature strongman videos.
There are many deadlift tutorial videos on KZread, this one is one of the best! Concise, practical cues, no bs.
7.08 "The key now is to pull BACK on the bar......" Good tip/mental cue. Thanks; will try that.
i like your tips :) awesome stuff and you're one of the best strongman !!
I really like the tips. I wish more strongmen would share their techniques for lifting/workouts like this rather than just showing their workout. A few do, but most just show them doing stuff in a gym. I don't plan on entering into strongman, but I do enjoy a good hard workout and truly appreciate the advice. And the offer to review technique and offer input on videos is really cool. Videoing my lifts is something I think I should do more of. Nice work, man!
One of the best Deadlift advices . 💯💪
Great video, look forward to seeing more like this
Will be trying a few things differently next session thank you
That was a great video keep them coming man
This is absolute gold!!!
Awesome !!!! Practice makes perfect
Great video, thanks for sharing 💪🏻

Game changing tip for me was changing my stand, from 1 year ago so thank you very much for the tip

Great advice Adam , I recently switched to a narrow hand position and stance and it feels much more efficient
Quality video Bishop. 💪
Good hearing this from one of the best in the business. I love your channel.
Excellent video. Very informative and simple to follow. Great content
Really useful. Thank you.
Really appreciate this vid
Great video!! One of the best strongman channels.
Thanks for the lat tip and the overall vid, hit a rep PR yesterday after watching this buzzing.
Thank you for this video. I asked for a deadlift video a while ago (when you posted that log-press video) and it seems like Christmas came early in 2020.
I keep watching this video.. Thanks. Ive sent my vid clip in.
Thanks so much for this video, I been trying to learn to deadlift for a while . But after watching this video I can finally can deadlift thanks again .
The lat tip is god tier !!! 💪🏽
Great technique. Just started deadlifting and will apply to my lifting.
Awesome videos. What about one for the best accessorie lifts for each compound lift. Keep up the good work.
Awesome advice mate, I’ll be implementing the lat tightness and falling back components into my next session. I’ve always focused on pulling upwards and have had a few lower back issues as a result
Great video 👍 I'd like to hear a few tips from you how to improve squats /front squats. What to look at etc.
I can't tell you how thankful I am for this offer, I've sent in a couple of clips and I hope you get the time to help me increase my pathetic deadlifts 🤣 thanks adam
Watched this twice now, another great tutorial. Taking in the advice ready to try out tomorrow, I will try to get a video to send you. Well done at brits, as Eddie Hall keeps saying you get stronger every year keep it up man.
Great advice Bish. Deffo gunna focus in on some of this in the next session 👍
Hi Adam,,,what a gent ,,,its a very informative professional vid m8,,,and from someone who truely knows his craft,,,appreciate your time and effort in this production bud ,,i shall follow you for more vids like this ,,,Thanks Adam,,take care and of those you love keep up the good work and stay focused try not to pick up to many injuries bud all the best Mac
I remember a coach always saying elbow pits forward to get us to pay attention to lat tightness
I'm a huge fan. I knew you were a great lifter but you are equally a great teacher. Thank you for the tips.
Great tutorial buddy 🙋♂️. Especially the point about pulling from a static position and not using the “rolling technique” for the regular athlete/ person 🙋♂️
Very interesting. Also, what an offer, to have my deadlift reviewed by one of the best in the world?! That's awesome.
I can deadlift a decent amount (for a casual person) but my form isn't the best and this video definitely is going to help a lot thank you so much the lat tightness was the best advice I could've received
great video thanks
This video was brilliant - so we’ll explained and the techniques have really helped already - particularly the lat tightness and ‘bending the bar’ that a few others have mentioned. Thanks so much, Adam. Your videos are really well explained and shot too 🙂 Watched your log press video, which was also really interesting - any chance of doing a standard barbell, overhead press vid, please?! Thanks again! 👍🏻
This is really good
Great advice on the fig 8s. Im new to using them and watched a video on how to set up using them and was told to keep them to side of your hands and found that absolutely sucked for pulling and hurt the wrists. Cant wait to try out the way you suggested as that seems a lot better.
Ok the cue to pull back not up finally fixed my pull. Thanks to your tutorial I might finally pull 200kg soon so you have my gratitude!
great video!
I'd like someone to go into more depth about the concept of pulling the floor apart with your feet to engage your hips. When I first got obsessed with the DL I spent year one and a half using my quads to push my hips high then doing all the rest with my lower back. Never understood what people meant about pushing your knees out or lighting up the side of my hips and glutes. Shit I never once felt the lift in my glutes, hips, or hamstrings. I watched a butt load of tutorials, read a book, and several books' worth amount of articles. I think it's one of the most important concepts that doesn't get a proper explanation. It's often glossed over.
Great video 👍
Big Quins fan and a fan of strongman too Would love to see a video on training advice for pre-season bulking up and as to how/what strongman movements can be incorporated into a training program for rugby!
Great video Adam! After watching this I realized I have been holding a way too wide stance while deadlifting. When I tried to hold a narrower stance today I actually pulled a new PB with not much effort. Thank you, and congrats on the Britain's Strongest Man title!
Learning deadlift from pro strongman thanks man
Thank you for telling the people not to attempt emulating eddie/brain/thor, its bloody pervasive. Great instructions!
Great video Mr Bishop 👍🏻 thanks for your tips. The stance on the deadlift gives me brain damage. Wide stance and it’s harder off the floor but easier lockout. Narrow stance earlier off the floor tougher lockout. Definitely can get tighter on a narrow stance so I’m going to stick with that, especially being a manlet
Could u do a video showing the best accessory exercises that have the best carry over to strongman
great video
Great video, Bish. Hope you're back in 2020 WSM.
some top deadlifters pull the bar into them to try to avoid bar inertia and create momentum, not because of body position, some really good stuff so far tho
Good stuff, makes me think I’m not doing too bad doing what I do.
Best CUES ever !
Great video! Would love to see circus dumbbell technique in another video thanks Adam 💪

still a great video although coming up to 2 years old. Coming back to the first time deadlifting in a comp on Saturday since December 2020 but it is PL so no straps
Hi Adam. Just found this video. Great stuff. One question: Most powerlifters recommend to place the bar mid-foot, an inch away from your shin to allow a vertical bar path. However, strongmen suggest to cut the toes off and pull the bar back. What’s the benefit of doing it strongman style? Thanks 🙏🏼
Subbed!
Adam is the best! monster...
Very useful as always Adam. Do you do any flexibility work to help you get in the starting position?
Thank you for this, so much lol.
Great advice! I have a question though...a tall guy with short arms and long legs (like me...i know, i'm disproportioned), how should it be his (that is to say, my) set up?
Like to see you collab with Jason Genova.
lo e ya work champ
Any tips on getting the UKSCA accreditation?
How often should you deadlift and should you go to max
Hey Adam, talking about bio-metrics- out of curiosity what is your wingspan ?
Wide stance works for me (1.83m/110kg so a little bit above average size), same for rolling the bar - I can brace harder when bar is far away and by dropping hips and rising them before actual lift, it creates momentum that helps a lot with initial part of the pull. Still, great tips!
what straps do you suggest for an axle barbell?
what's the music in the background of this dude ?

PLEASE DO SQUAT NEXT!

elliott cook yep a squat video is planned, just need to get my demo athlete sorted and a film date nailed down
Adam I’m really wanting you to win wsm 2022
I’m way stronger when I roll the bar in and scoop it than I am statically, should I move down in weight and train static start position until it catches up?

Adam Bishop Strongman kzread.info/dash/bejne/YmVps8OAdLXQgKw.html is a front view ok? It’s a huge honour for me to have my deadlift critiqued by a strongman of your caliber. Unfortunately due to my gym setup it’s impossible to get a side view
Liftingshoes or not. I have tried both an csn honestly say that barefoot during the lift. Its better for me. But lifting shoes have a high stabilised heel. Its a awesome thing to use for that stability. But i use it only for leglifts and log press. :)

And this is the most important thing. A belt,,i always use a belt. Even if i warm up on 65 kg or do heavy at 150 kg. Always s belt. It is god stability on your lower back and stomach. And prevent damage and accidents very good. Safety first. And yes. ,,,this video from adam is 100% accurate. Its extremely good advice. :) deadlift is a good(probably the best) for training all muscle groups. Back, lower back, stomach, legs, hams, gripstrenght and much on. The other one thats extremely good is pull ups. Biceps, triceps, shoulders, pecs and more. And the whole thing people are so focused on biceps curls. Dont need to do them. They are comming if you do all . :)
@adambishopstrongman4471

förnuftig man yep for sure no shoes for deadlift. You want maximum foot contact with the floor. A heel on a weightlifting shoe both shifts you forward over the bar too much and increased the distance you need to pull the bar. Flat foot for the win.

@@adambishopstrongman4471 yes:) i think your video is 110%. :) lots of good tips. Thank you sir
Subscribed and loving the videos. Am I too late to send in mine for critique ?
How do I prevent injury? What should I be aware of? I mean to say that I am in it purely for fun. I may never be great, and If I ever win then let’s all celebrate. But, I want to be smart at fifty two and with a family. , I need to avoid costly loss of income.

Sam B do everything I outlined in the video, always prioritise technique over barbell weight, progress slowly - don’t chase big numbers straight away.
Thank you, someone finally explaining that Shaw's, Pritchett, Eddie and Thor have a stance that's not as efficient as it could be. I don't even understand how they use their glutes with a stance as wide as that.
@mustang8206
3 жыл бұрын
Those guys are some of the greatest deadlifters in history do you really think you know more about form than they do? Shaw and Eddie have traveled around learning from some of the best strongmen and powerlifters and Thor is coached by a world renowned powerlifting coach. Not to mention that they are all quite tall especially Pritchett, Thor, and Shaw. The stance of a 6'9 deadlifter will not be the same as a 5'8 deadlifter. As well as the fact that they are 400 lbs + and the size of their legs will prevent them from getting in narrower. Eddie used to pull narrow and he said that he ended up plateauing for a long time but once he widened the stance his weight shot up and he ended up pulling 500 kilos
