Hope you guys enjoyed it!! I rushed this one out so less editing but tbh KZread videos that are over edited are getting old lol. What happened to good old info and quality content? Instead of making some fancy intro and deadlift montage I figured jamming it packed full on useful content was better! Tons more coming to the channel!! I hired someone to help me with content which means less work which also means more videos coming!!

Do you act like your trying to bend the bar around your legs?
@BrendanTietz
3 жыл бұрын
rotartlifnI no, some recommend that for lat activation but that’ll cause you to retract and pack the shoulders too much. Instead I just think bend the bar up and then drag it up. My upper back is like a crane and my legs push while I lean back and drag it up

Brendan Tietz Is it smart to hip shoot and slack pull for every rep for like a set of 5 if you can do this correctly?

Do you have any mental cues for staying tight and not tipping forward when you do the slack pull? I tend to lose tightness and my slack pull when I lean back after I pull the slack as you noted in the video.
This is going to be hard to master
I watched this about 1.5 years back and after 275kg deadlift PR, I still learn something new. Thanks.
I just found this video and I have to say that this was revolutionary. Technique improvements like this literally brought me from 500 to 600 conventional in about 5 months of practiced drilling. Thanks a bunch!
As soon as i started pulling slack this way i added 20kg to my deadlift in 3 months
Dude, this is golden information! Isn't this even more beneficial to do if I am pulling sumo since it's generally harder to break the floor?
@BrendanTietz
3 жыл бұрын
Yes! Sumo is more position dependent! It’s what makes Kristin so strong in her sumo
Dam!, your client ,bad example , is exactly what I look like when I deadlift. This video is gold
This is a solid how to man, much appreciated. This is the missing link that I need to fix. I can pull the slack, but I literally lose it as soon as I wedge myself into the pull. Your how not to makes perfect sense because it is what I do every single time. Time to get back to work on this wedge with my sumo for sure.
This is hands down the most important lifting technique I have ever implemented! No exaggeration. Thank you for teaching this Brendan!

Dude yes!! Game changer!! And you’re welcome!!
Awesome content once again! Never had such a great explenation on the slack pull. Keep it up!
This needs to blow up. Practicing my conv recently back in the gym from quarantine. Thank you man!
Pure gold (as always). Thanks B.
Absolutely fantastic video. I've been getting out of groove on my deadlifts I'm really excited to try this during my next session
Thank you so much, tried today this really helped for a smoother pull and better back position! Its like being enlightened on ayhuasca
Thank you so much for this!! Best powerlifting channel
One of the best videos Ive seen on wedging and slack pulling! Thanks dude!
Dude - this is SUCH great content! You are brilliant and do an amazing job of communicating such rich, detailed and insightful info. If I hadn't just worked out today, I would be in my garage now trying this out immediately.
Thank you for sharing this information, this is by far the best deadlift tip on the internet!
This is a game changer. I’ve seen a million deadlift tutorials trying to get everyone’s input and this is the first I’ve seen this but it makes a ton of sense. It’ll definitely be challenging implementing it, but my next training block is very focused on technique at reasonable intensities and efforts, so that should be the perfect time to work on this.
You can definitely feel the difference its a smooth motion and you feel powerful and controlled super helpful greatly appreciated.
I have struggled with this for several years! Best video I have seen on this because I am one who pulls up a bit and gets totally out of position each and every time. Thank you for this!!
I went from 295 to 350 after watching this video. This is a game changer. 405 coming up. Thank you!

This is the best description of this concept on KZread.
This is really fucking on point. It's such a hard concept to teach. I tell people to pull with their back and press their hips foward, but this is better. Thanks man!
Amazing explanation and great content! Thanks for sharing!
This is easily the best DL tutorial I have seen. Keep up the good content. Cheers from Sweden.
Thank you so much man, been through ton of videos but they all only tell me squeeze my lats and raise my chest but never the lean part
This is an excellent explanation. I have A 615 DL and now I'm 90% sure iv been handicapping myself the entire time. Really good stuff.
This is by far one of the best breakdowns of slack pull I've ever seen...Thank you for posting this
this is the best deadlift slack ull video ive ever seen. This directly helps me with my back rounding and being too over the bar. Thank you for this subscribed
This content was so good that I immediately had to subscribe to this channel. Was searching the whole day how to wedge into the bar . Now I understand it 💪ready for increasing the load
This is pure gold technique!
Can't wait to try this out on Monday. I just hit 200lbs and there's always room for learning.
Outstanding. This looks to be an effective technique. Looking forward to trying it out.
JUST what I needed! AWESOME
Thank you for all those videos helping me out as baby power lifter
Although this video is a year old I'm genuinely grateful for coming across it. This quality of information is always concealed, and is often given through paid coaching. I blow up my lower back alot by not doing what is being mentioned in this video. I couldn't thank you enough for it!
Love the video my dude. Great information, going to continue to reference back to this video. Currently looking like your last client rn. Thanks man
I'm an older guy learning this stuff for the first time. This was the best tutorial I've seen, and it made the most sense! Thanks for teaching the material so effectively. I've never understood the leverage issue until now. Thanks for explaining it so well!
First time I heard information like this relating to the slack out the bar! Great 👌
absoultely the best deadlifting tutorial ever seen thank you sir for your great insights
I have just discovered this! Finally, someone who has actually explained it. I have been doing this slack pull all wrong. I'm gonna try this
Awesome advice, thanks a lot 😍
One of the most important deadlift videos out there
Great info, never seen this tip before. Looking forward to trying this out next week!
This is awesome...I realized when I deadlift for reps my initial first rep is just taking the mini slack out and I rip it and grip it (struggle)...but the following reps I do the "deadlift jack" technique which my reps fly up faster. I will definitely pay more attention and practice this technique more! Thanks!
Wow, swear am adding more plates with the mastery of that move, really appreciate man
Great stuff 💎
Literally one of the most important techniques you ever taught me B! Makes such a difference once you get it down!
This is the best deadlift advice I have ever heard, my hips were shooting up because I wasn't pulling the slack like this. No back pain anymore
What phenomenal video this was. Helped a lot.
Why I haven't seen this video long time ago, only realize today i was just pulling the pre-slack 😪. Im going to do this next deadlift workout. Definitely great content 👌
Bro you are awesome. Literally was doing this today and you confirmed I was doing it right. Forever I always been stronger on stiff bar, and couldn’t pull for shit on deadlift bars. Max on stiff is 635, and I can barely pull 600 on deadlift bar. Great video!!!
Thanks for show the sumo version of pulling slack. Great video. Can’t wait to try it out I know it’ll all be worth it in the long run.
I’ve watched probably 100 or more tutorials on KZread for deadlifting the past 3 years plus have had trainers and CrossFit coaches help me with deadlift. How is it that this is the first time I’ve been exposed how to PROPERLY slack pull and be told how it works and helps? Just from watching this video twice I already know with some practice my deadlift is about to shoot up. Thank you so much for posting this!!
Wow this is just mind-blowing
Thanks for the info Brendan, great video. I've always struggled with deadlift positioning/bracing/slack pulling. Any old videos you can point me to?
You did the best job at explaining this to my slow learning brain.
I've been stuck between a 675 and 705 deadlift for 3 years now. I have been told to pull slack pull slack but just didn't understand what I was doing wrong. Thank you so much for this video. I hope to finally build a great deadlift
this is exactly what i needed, thank you !! 555lbs max deadlift about to get easy
This is awesome content! I watched this very carefully and then I practiced it in my Week 1 Saturday session (my heaviest day, as I train Wednesday then rest for two days). Since I haven't directly trained conventional pulls for a while, I simply use the vanilla lift from the floor for this cycle. It started with a top set at 410 x 5 @ 6 and then 3 back-off fives at 370 @ 5. Practicing your slack pull technique during my warm-up singles had the barbell leaving the floor at 280 and everything felt very solid and smooth from the floor. Room for improvement, but I'll see how it goes over the next few weeks as the top set gets heavier. My target for Week 3 is 450 x 4 @ 7 (back-off sets at 410). Target for Week 5 = 495 x 3 @ 8-9 (back-off triples at 440).
Your channel is golden
Slack pulling has been a mystery to me, never really felt the carry over from how other people explained it, will defo try this on my next deadlift day, thanks!
Just did my first deadlift session after watching this video. Last few months i had issues with tightness and because of that my first rep would always be sloppy. I usually see these "instant fixes" and think to myself...yea right...i tried this and it fucking worked and instantly fixed my tightness isue. Dont get me wrong i still have to practice it to get the full benefit, but after first try i see the segnificant difderence.
Man... i cannot wait to try this. This is an amazing tip! LMAO!
Hi Brendan. Quick question: when you pull out the slack and are ready to go, do you still think of any cues - like pressing the floor away or squeeze your glutes/bang the bar - when you initiate the lift? Thanks 🙏🏼
Thank you for the valuable video! Very interesting to see the videos of different people with the voice over explanation. You also compare deadlift bar vs stiff bar a couple times. What do you think of using a deadlift bar in training to learn this if your working weights are quite light and will never bend a competition stiff bar? (120 kg 1RM)
Thanks a lot for the tips. I realized that I was doing it wrong. Two days ago I had a meet where I lifted with a deadlift bar. First time in my life and I felt like it was so much harder to lift the weight. I must improve my technic.
I really feel this is the missing link In my lifts . 👍🏽
Very underrated content honestly.
Thank You so much 😊💪
Have been trying to lift 160 kg with proper technique but always ended up rounding my back. Saw this one vid and was able to do it for the first time with almost no rounding. This is really cool stuff!
Your side on demonstration really helped
Great Demo
I’ve seen this guy pull the slack so optimally that the weight already leaves the ground without even wedging yet…. This dudes cues are impressive
You have a wonderful talent at being a teacher to very difficult lifting concepts that are usually just never discussed

Thank you so much!! I’m glad it’s so concise and clear!! That’s what I aim for
Best teacher on the internet
My deadlift pr is 556 but I KNOW I’m leaving weight on the bar due to my inconsistencies with slack pull. I 100% give the slack “back” when I go to wedge. Your cue to lean back after the slack pull made things so clear, GREAT video. 600 is on the way in no time!
THANK YOU SM
this was really useful, thanks
Damn glad I watched this as I need to work on this

Thank you sir! It’s imo the smoothest and most leveraged slack pull style out there.
Bro you are underrated af
Not just leg drive but center of gravity shift for leverage.
I feel it all in my lumbar pulling slack and elongating the arms/shoulders just before wedging down. So you essential doing a crap form deadlift to get all the tension in your body then when shins come in contact you push up? Will try just getting the pretensioning down without getting into lower back. Great video.
FFS. There is so much bullshit with even the popular fitness YTs now, yet here’s this guy giving out THE BEST info with under 50K. I’m pretty sure I made this same comment years ago, but how is this guy not at AT LEAST 100K? Excellent content.
Thanks dude I’ve been struggling with my lock out. I feel like I always end up with my legs straight and my back holding on the weight
Love your content Brendan. Can you bring back the podcasts! I was really enjoying those lol

I really want to but realistically they just get so little love and they’re so time consuming man. I’m also stepping up the KZread content in some ways as well as my website private content for the Powerbuilding team so I’m strapped for time. However in a month or so I might be able to once my editor gets on board. I just hired someone
This help me realized why my deadlift was so off when I deadlifted at home compared to deadlift at la fitness it’s because the bumper plates elevate the bar more so I probably wasn’t pulling the slack right and this video helped me up my form way more

Glad I could help!!
Hey brendan if you get a chance to answer this, with the hip shoot is it possible to lift the weights of the ground and wedge into position and start pushing? Like all in one fast motion, ofc if the weights aren’t to heavy like 200-220kg
I’m literally warming up with working weight now 🤯

Yeaaaaaa!!!
I use a stiff bar, pull really quickly and I swear I'd seen some big names saying my slack pull was wrong. Tried it their way- too much thinking(generally a good way for me to fail lifts), felt slow, failed too many pulls and the ones I got felt like lead. Went back to my way. If I don't pull quickly, it's not coming off the floor. Don't think I do the up/down movement with the hips but I definitely pull back and a fast 2 step slack pull. Now I want to watch my videos in slo-mo, lol. Never have issues with conventional other than when I can't get it off the floor. Sumo-different story, get stuck at the knees a lot, couldn't get the hang. I love conventional so I decided to stick with that.
The most important deadlift video on KZread!
Thank you
The slack pull is an art form and this video sums up how to execute it step by step. You can’t fail to pull the slack out on a deadlift bar or OPB after watching this
