    I had A LOT of trouble figuring out how to pull the slack out of the bar and I tried that technique where you twist your hands and then pack your lats as you get into position. I tried it with 2 plates and the whole bar was off the ground before i even engaged my legs or back. Great technique.

    1:20 - i can see that without pulling the slack, as one goes up to lift, the lower back rounds, as opposed to a lift where one does pull the slack out of the bar, it doesn't.

    My coach keeps telling me to arch my back while deadlifting but it seems like this guy didn't arch it. Is my coach full of it or is he right?

  • @pilotingfreakazoid

    @pilotingfreakazoid

    8 жыл бұрын

    You don't want to arch your back, as it puts extreme amounts of pressure on your lumbar vertebra and can actually cause MAJOR injury. Your back/spine, neck and head should be aligned in a straight line, glutes down, shins perpendicular to the floor, squeezing your core and back to keep good form through the entire movement. Do not - I repeat Do not arch your back forward while deadlifting. The saying "lift with your legs, not your back" isn't said for no reason. Good luck and lift hard.

  • @Rave.-
    @Rave.-8 жыл бұрын

    Idk if my limbs are just too long, but that type of set up would set me waaaay off balance, and I'd feel like I'm leaning back too far. It's a bit frustrating that the more I try to fix my form (closer to shins, pulling slack out, etc..), the worse my lift becomes.

  • @Rave.-

    @Rave.-

    I have indeed tried sumo. I lift about the same (it'd be better if I had better hip flexibility, so I won't knock sumo for my own inadequacy). The form I've actually had the best results with (but can't seem to "fix", as I mentioned), is a very narrow stance, slightly higher hip start that I picked up from watching Massthetics. It's been the most comfortable by far, as long as I DON'T focus on form and just lift the damn thing. I'm actually looking at the thumbnail for Barbell's video as I type this and I'm laughing a bit. Without a doubt, I'd scrape my shins to hell and back just looking at that set up.

  • @SquatSimp

    @SquatSimp

    8 жыл бұрын

    Everyone has their own variation of the conventional stance, that is just a general guidline. As long as your form is solid throughout the lift and you have no pain, you're good! BTW when I first started pulling sumo I had groin discomfort and toghtness, with stretching and practice I've been able to pull conventional and sumo pain free with the right form. Best of luck to you man!

    As a rather new conventional puller, I can't get it. For some reason when I pull the slack out of the bar, my form ends up getting worse and my bar speed is slower compared to allowing a small yank on the bar (I'm not just pulling this out of my ass either. I've recorded my form both ways and it's very apparent.) My hips end up shooting up, my back rounds, and the bar will not leave the ground when pulling the slack out before pulling. It's so bad that I can pull 275 plus with ease with a tiny bend in the arms and no form breakdown, but if I pull the slack out, I can barely get 185 of the ground. How can I fix this?

  • @Sbarrett1

    @Sbarrett1

    +Nguyên Khoa Đặng Not bent throughout the pull. Just as a way to yank the bar slightly. Look at someone like Vince Urbank or Dylan Trout when they deadlift and you'll see what I mean. Plus I've already got the issue sorted so it's not a problem anymore.
