    You can go to pro mode and adjust shutter time to do a long exposure. You will prob need a ND filter if you do that as the camera has fixed aperture (like almost all smartphone in the market)

    Hi Richard! Thanks for sharing this info, I find it helpful, especially about the fact that you can see how the photo looks like without needing to determine which shutter speed you'll need to use. One question for you tho, I'm considering to buy mate 10, but I also want to do astrophotography with it. So I'm hesitating whether to buy a real camera or just flagship, and I have to choose just one! (I'm aware that phone camera's sensor is a lot less than real cameras, but still, I don't like the bulk of real camera. It's less likely for me to carry a camera everywhere, while I would really love to do landscape, seascape, and astrophotography wherever I go. And I will only share through Instagram, won't print it). Have you ever tried capturing astrophotography with mate 10? Does this beast capable to do so? I'm sure mate 10 does a good job in daylight, but how does it perform in low light setting?

  • @TheRealRichardWong

    Hi Elsa, no i have not done any astrophotgraphy. The phone with it's dual f/1.6 lens does a great job in low light. I'm about to publish a review on my blog in a week's time and I did some comparison with the latest iPhoneX and iPhone8, the Mate 10 Pro's camera handle low light much better than the two new iphones. Come check out my blog in a week's time and see the results yourself (not sure if I will shoot a video) www.photobyrichard.com/reviewbyrichard

    hey David, haha enjoy your Mate 10 Pro, I really love it. Re the AI scene detection, it is enabled by default, actually you can't turn it off. But this is only enabled in non-pro and non-special mode. e.g. if you turn on Pro mode, or do light painting then it doesn't work for obvious reasons. If it still doesn't work, maybe take a video screen recording when you are using the camera and let me have a look? Hi, again, Richard. So now my question is how do you suggest photographing fireworks with the Mate 10? Specifically, which is the best long shutter speed mode to use, what iso and shutter speed? From my fiddling around, Night Shot would seem to be the best since you can set the iso, shutter speed, and use the 2x telephoto. Thanks

  • @TheRealRichardWong

    @TheRealRichardWong

    6 жыл бұрын

    Barry Sharoff hi Barry I have to say I have not shot much firework with the mate10. But I guess light painting mode I would try light graffiti first and see how it goes. In terms of shutter speed, it's another thing you need to experiment as it really depends on the distance, firework type, wind..etc. But prob start from around 5 second. Good thing with the light painting mode is that you can see the preview of final image and stop when you think there is enough firework trail captured

    @@legervoile To be honest, while I also don't mind having a "bulb" mode to allow infinite exposure time, 30seconds is pretty decent already as it is a phone after all. Once the exposure time increased, the camera can overheat and you start having a lot of sensor noise. That's why even on professional full frame cameras, any long exposure over say 30 seconds usually results in another exposure of the same amount of time to allow the camera to do some long exposure noise reduction.
