A lot easier than what I was expecting.

That locking ring was the tricky part of this job. I had to re-use the old O-ring as the new one was too hard to compress. Then, I filled the leading edge of each of the engagement points so it would catch properly. POS...thanks FORD.

Needed to see you actually spin that ring on there during install.

Safer to use a brass punch or chisel to bang on the lock ring with. Brass on steel won't cause sparks, but steel on steel can. If you have gas fumes strong enough there, a spark could blow it and you up.

So much easier than my 2001 Mustang. Replaced the fuel pump 2 weeks ago and was a pain in the ass, by having to take the whole fuel tank out.

I feel for you 😢.

I know I'm a bit late to the party but I do have a question. What are some signs that indicate your fuel pump is malfunctioning? Sometimes I would be sitting at a stop light, in neutral with my foot on the brake, and the engine would suddenly rev itself. Now it won't start on its own without jumping the battery[which i know is probably its own issue] and when i try to drive it even a couple feet it will rev itself and then shut off. Does that sound consisten with a fuel pump issue? or could it be the iniector?

Installing that ring is not as easy as you make it look, it was a pain in A$%.

Yeah they have a special tool you can rent or buy that's supposed to make it easier glad you were able to get it on though great job 👍🏻

Why in Gods’ name would you design a hole for easy access but not make it so you can reach the entire lock ring!!🤬 Another engineering nightmare!!

Maybe ring installing is not your bag.

Does the fuel pump lock before the locking ring? I see two L shaped clips on the bottom of the pump flange and two notches at the same points. I'm having a difficult time getting the lock ring back on and wondering if the pump needs to be locked into these to hold it down when installing the pump lock ring. I'm having a hard time doing this as well.

Hey jim, it is hard getting it back in, you have to just push the pump down with your hand cuz there's a spring on the bottom that's trying to spring up so you got to keep it held down and then what's held down you have to maneuver that locking ring into place underneath the tabs on mine I believe it had three one in the back and the one in the back you can't see very good so when I put it on I thought it was on but the one in the back wasn't on it's hard to take the ring back off and then make sure they all three lined up and then put it back on. Now if it's too hard what you could do I've never had to but you might have to go to AutoZone and rent a tool they have that goes around there and kind of pushes it on and you can twist at the same time. Hope it works out for you brother let me know.

Good video. I need to replace my fuel temperature sensor. I guess that's where you disconnected the plug.

My mustang started making a humming/whining/grinding noise (id say its a combination) last night. There was a big rock on the road that I drove over and it banged up the bottom of my car. Soon after the noise started. After a quick lookup on Google and KZread I initially thought it was coming from the differential. However after looking into some forums the noise happened at different accelerations and speed for other people. On my car it happens more often when its idle at a stop light. Which makes me think its the fuel pump. The noise is really loud. My car has a loud exhaust and I also have hearing loss, so that goes to show how loud the noise is. What is your opinion? Thank you in advance

It's an electric fuel pump what you can do is turn the key to all the way on but don't start the car I think it's two or three clicks and then listen for the fuel pump sometimes when it's cool it may not make the noise it may make it after it's warm so you may have to do that after you drive for a while and you start hearing the noise then turn off the car and then just turn the key to on and listen cuz you'll build it here if the fuel pumps whining it should be behind the drivers seat it's under the passengers seat on the driver's side so if you listen behind you you should be able to hear it if it's whining coming from under that seat then you know most likely it's the fuel pump if you wanted to checker even further you could take out the back seat and then take off that black round ring plastic ring and then have somebody put their ear right there if you can hear it grinding right there you'll know that's what it is good luck let me know if you need anything else

@@JohnDaniels Thank you for your advice! This morning I turned on the car in hopes of narrowing down the area where the noise is coming from. But I heard nothing. Im thinking its the fuel pump because I could hear it inside the car towards the back while I was also blasting music. But I find it strange that the a rock hitting my undercarriage would cause it to act up.

QUESTION. IS THE HOSE ON TOP A FUEL LINE OR EVAP LINE?? I RECENTLY INSTALLED A NEW FUEL PUMP AND THE BLACK HOSE THATS FURTHER DOWN INSIDE TANK CRACKED. I DIDNT INSTALL IT. I FIGURED THAT IS THE HOSE COMING FROM THE SECONDARY PUMP ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND SHOULDNT AFFECT IT. AM I WRONG???? DOES THE HOSE ON TOP OF FUEL PUMP COVER GO STRAIGHT TO THE FRONT OF ENGINE AND TO FUEL INJECTOR RAIL?????? DOES THAT HOSE FROM SECOND PUMP NEED TO BE PLUGGED IN FOR CAR TONWORK.??? NOT SURE IS THE MAIN FUEL HOSE GOING THRU ENGINE PASSES THRU THE SECONDARY FUEL UNIT OR IF IT IS THE ONE ON TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP COVER. ANY HELP IS HIGHLY APPRECIATED!!

It's been awhile since I worked on this, I know inside the tank there's one hose that goes over to the other tank and that's how it moves fuel back and forth between the saddle tanks and then the hoses on the top one goes to the fuel system and then the other has a return hose so it's a circulatory closed system so as far as I know all the hoses need to be hooked up especially for emissions if you have to get in inspection

Which way is the float suppose to face when you put it in...I think my float part is hitting the base that it sits in..inside the tank

That's a great question I can't remember when I was putting it in but I remember the inlet and the wiring connector went one way and I just put them back on the same way that they went.

Would this work on a 2016 Ford Mustang V6? The car won’t start anymore it stalled and I can’t hear the fuel pump come on when I open the key to start mode I believe it has to be the fuel pump

I would think it would be similar to this, if you can remove the back seat easily then you could look and see if it has those circles to remove and sit the fuel pumps under there.

Trying to do this on an 06, but can't get the harness on the top to slide out. Safety clip is back (and tried with it removed), but it just won't budge. Do you have any advice?

After the safety clip is back try rotating then sliding back.

Does the new fuel pump have to be positioned a certain way inside the tank? I installed a new one but I cant lock the ring on the top as its too high on some parts

Sorry for the late reply! The fuel pump needs to be pushed down because it is spring loaded and then at the same time turn the locking ring, I hope you were able to get it done.

Ok i have a 2006 mustang gt went to a local mechanic had the fuel pump replaced with a new fuel pump now my gas hand jumps around from a half of tank to empty you have any idea what is going on Thank You

@@tonylindsey3508 The sending unit for the gas level is on the fuel pump so maybe it is bad.

would recommend a brass punch instead of screwdriver. sparks from screwdriver could ignite vapors.

Why is the clamp so hard to put back???

For whatever reason the pump I just installed doesn't want to seal. Has a new O ring and doesn't seal. I noticed that the lock ring was mangled to hell and back but it was holding a seal before I moved it so idk why it won't seal. Went and got a new gasket and it still does not seal. Now it leaks gas everywhere when operated. I will try my best to avoid Ford at all cost moving forward. I don't even want Ford side work.

That's interesting, maybe it's coming out of the hose at the top somehow like how it presses on there the fuel pose onto the nipple maybe that orange bad or something with that connection

How much did your guys fuel pumps cost Napa quoted me 250 but amazon is saying 80 should I trust the cheaper one?

Before I get the same ones at Amazon is to do at Napa but if you get out of AutoZone it comes with a warranty so if it does go out you can take it back and get a new one, but it sucks when you're stranded on the side of the highway and then have to have your car towed.

I swapped my fuel pump and it refuses to pump 4 gals of fuel from passenger side ivr replaced the hose and the sending unit already. Does anybody have any idea what to do next

The tank is a saddle tank, depending on the model if it's a V6 on the passenger side it just has a sending unit and a hose and on the driver side it has the fuel pump connected to the hose that goes all the way over to the passenger side tank and siphons gas from that tank over into the driver side tank. So if you're having a problem where it's not siphoning the gas from the passenger side tank then it has to be something with the hose or the sending unit or the fuel pump and the driver side tank.

Hey there so not sure if this will sound right , but I have a 2005 ford mustang and I don't know much about it as I just gotten it not to long ago. Anyways everything is turning on and sounds great but it's not wanting to officially turn over to start what should I do? I flushed out all fluids and put new in there including gas , everything is firing correctly and no pings or abnormal noises just don't know what to do because it could be anything , and yes I have put a bit of starting fluid and it made a thud but still didn't wanna start and turn over. Please help !?

On the v6 there is only one fuel pump, not for sure about the v8

That's a great question, the tank on the driver side is for the fuel pump that sends the fuel to the engine and the tank on the passenger side depending on what model you have but for most models it's a sending unit for how much gas is on that side because the mustang has a saddle gas tank and there's a hose that goes between the two gas tanks and that hose hooks to the fuel pump on the driver side which puts fuel back and forth or siphons the fuel from the passenger tank over to the driver side tank but on a few models I think with the really big engines they have two fuel pumps but like I said on most of the cars the fuel pumps actually on the driver's side and on the passenger side it's just a sending unit to tell how much fuel is in that passenger side tank it's kind of confusing how it all the setup is I wish it was just one tank with one's fuel pump and one sending unit but it's not

When I disconnect the fuel line it won't stop spraying out, It doesn't just drop a little bit of fuel it's non stop fuel spraying out. Anybody know what it could be?!

How many miles does it have on it. How long has it been since last maintenance. For misfiring look at your spark plugs and fuel injectors. Make sure you have a strong battery contraction as well.

That's not good! All the way I know to test it would be to make sure gas is getting all the way to the injectors maybe something the fuel pumps bad or something

You should disconnect the battery taking the key out of the ignition does not stop the spark that is left over in the system disconnecting the battery allows the extra energy to drain... One spark when you're doing that fuel pump and there you go and your entire car disconnect the battery it takes 5 seconds to save your life do things smart

😭 sorry to hear that, it would seem like these manufacturers would try to make a car in such a way that it would also be easy to work on because they know you have to work on them, I know some guys that were working in the shop and one of the cars I think they had to pull the engine out to get to some part it was crazy

You fail to mention that there is another hose to disconnect when you lift up the fuel pump for removal. You then have to reattach that hose before lowering the new pump into the tank!

You should open your fuel cap before you bang on that part to remove the fuel pump.. if you open your fuel cap it releases the built-up pressure in the tank and it releases the fumes helping to avoid explosion resulting in death... Does anyone have a brain anymore....
