    This and another video helped me solve our gauge issue on a similar mustang (6-gauge). They don’t make these clusters anymore: you have to fix it yourself. Thank God for the internet.

    After 7 years of having zero functional instruments I finally stopped my live action adaptation of Planes Trains and Automobiles and fixed it. The indicator arms are held on by friction so you are just lifting the arms up with even force, I used very small curved nosed needle nosed pliers. Using my $10 electronics soldering iron I was able to get the motors to come off with a lot of work. Applying a pulling force then quickly heating up one pin then the other on the same side. On reinstall even my somewhat sloppy solder job was fine and go everything back on and working without any magic smoke. For setting the gages I plugged the console into the car and turned the power on and placed the indicators at the zero. I then went and topped up the fuel and made sure it was pointing to full, then took a quick trip using my phone's GPS to hit highway speed and made sure my speedometer was accurate, temperature was right in the middle (normal) so I figured that was good and as for the tac, I honestly couldn't care but It seems correct. In short the solder was the worst due to my poor tools, everything else was fine.

    If you turn the ignition on the gauge cluster will start getting signals from the car to raise the fuel level and volt gauge. You can just plug it in and you will hear the gauge needles resetting to zero and then install the needles carefully and then check the calibration by unplugging it and plugging it in again.

    If you don’t own a de-soldering gun, but own a soldering iron, you can still get them off by opening the old motors themselves by the clips. Heat up one solder point while pulling and they will come off one by one. To put them back on, heat up each point individually to shimmy them back on. Good luck soldier.

    While this can work if you're careful, we have seen people rip the pad and trace off the circuit board using this method. It's better to us a cheap solder sucker or desoldering braid with flux.

On your options once I selected cluster repair it asked me to pick a color. My mustang has the option to cycle through about 6 different colors. If I got the repair with you would I be stuck with 1 color?

    Quick few questions on this. I have an 05 mustang a few months ago I had an issue with the RPM gauge not reading correctly and eventually it fixed itself but the gas gauge has just started acting up and is no longer reading so I’m leaning towards this being the issue I will have it diagnosed at the local Ford Dealer before going any further but my question to you is if I were to get ahold of another mustang gauge cluster and replace it with the one I have would it still read the correct mileage or would I need the ford dealer to reprogram the correct mileage to it? Or is the mileage stored in the ECU? Thanks again.

  • @AutomotiveCircuitSolutions

    @AutomotiveCircuitSolutions

    5 жыл бұрын

    The mileage is stored on the gauge cluster so replacing it will change the mileage. I'm pretty sure Ford will not adjust the mileage on a used cluster, they will only change the mileage if they sell you one. That's why it is always best to get your parts rebuilt instead of replaced.

    Automotive Circuit Solutions From your videos it seems pretty easy to pull off, do you think it would be easy to grab one from a junkyard? Do you have to remove the whole assembly to get the lens out? Or can I just go to a pick and pull, pop the panel off, pull the gauges out and just remove and keep the lens?

    I have a 2006 Mustang, the instrument lights on the right half of the cluster do not work. I removed the cluster and inspected the circuit board. There is a burned out component that I can not get a number from. Can I get a cluster from a salvage yard and install it? How is the mileage stored? Is it in the gage circuit board or the cars computer?

  • @AutomotiveCircuitSolutions

    @AutomotiveCircuitSolutions

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes if you have the ability to desolder and solder that component over then it should not be a problem. The mileage is stored on the cluster.

    I have a question, I have read that if you change this gauge cluster that the car will not start until the cluster is programmed once installed, also a security programming must be performed. is this only true if the cluster is different form the cars original cluster or does this have to happen at all. Ive changed other gauge clusters in cars and have never had an issue with it before...do you know anything about this? Thank you for your time - Greg

  • @AutomotiveCircuitSolutions

    @AutomotiveCircuitSolutions

    6 жыл бұрын

    letthewinderaseme I believe in this particular model the cluster doesn't need to be programmed for the car to start. But if you change the cluster your mileage will need to be programmed as it is stored in the cluster. That's why it's always best to rebuild instead of replace.
