Daryl, thanks for this video. I just completed the repair (2023-Dec-20) and IT WORKS!! I re-flowed the solder with my Weller gun, 2 places on the right side and 4 places on the left side, re-installed the cluster, re-connected the battery, and stuck the key in, fired her up and all gauges work, no more reverse lights on all the time and now I have turn signal click-sound and dash indicators. The turn signal flashing was controlled from somewhere else, they always worked, I just couldn't hear them. Tx, Jon

Yes it is the secret fix among mechanics. The pins oxidize in hot / cold / humid/ dry cycles. Use electric contact cleaner spray before plugging it back in. Fair $50 repair for the honest lifelong mechanics $ 1000 hit job for the crooked stealership ones, but karma catches up with those types.

My cluster goes out after several bad rain storms. My floorboard gets wet from water leaking somewhere (I can't find). May be a humidity thing. Anyway, when things have dried out, I can get to work;;; by unpluging the harness ... at the cluster. That removes the power and resets it when plugged back in. While the cluster is dead, AC will not work, backup lights stay on (while engine is running). Audible alarms do not work when the cluster is dead.

Im a broke college student with a dead ford 500. I have had intermittent charging issues for months. Changed my serpentine belt and tensioner, cleaned all and checked battery terminals, cleaned all grounds, and put two new alternators in the car to no success. All of my lights dim at idle, and recently (With an alternator less than a month old) I lost all electrical power while driving. The car would not start up after. Let it sit for 10 min and it started up again only to lose all power and die again. Got codes for bad ECU and battery pack out of range. My mechanic told me it’s my restraint control module which is mind blowing to me. He’s the professional, but I just can’t wrap my head around that. I have searched every forum high and low for answers. Any insight on this problem would be greatly appreciated. I’m about to have to take out a god damn loan for another shitbox, please help me.

@@Super-360 Mechanic was telling me it was the Restraint Control Module specifically because they’re on back order and crazy expensive. He was doing that to get rid of me I later learned, because he couldn’t figure out the problem either. The problem was the alternators they were installing on my car. Whatever carquest, duralast, or generic rebuilt alternator the mechanics were installing in my car was what was causing the issue. Doesn’t work properly with Fords “Smart charging system”. For fucks sake I even went to a FORD DEALERSHIP AND GAVE THEM MY VIN and they sold me an alternator that did the same fucking thing. I took the car to an automotive electrician who had it running in one day by installing a junkyard alternator from a Ford Five hundred. That’s what fixed my problem, installing a genuine FOMOCO alternator off an old Five Hundred.
