2005-2009 Mustang Gauge Cluster Stepper Motor Repair

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Lengthy video, but this is pretty much a step by step run down of how to pull apart and solder on a new stepper motor onto an 05-09 Mustang gauge cluster.

Perhaps I can help you out with a few soldering tips. Put flux on the part to be soldered. The purpose of solder is to help clean the joint. Do not touch the solder to the joint yet. First heat the JOINT itself. Generally speaking the joint is hot enough when the flux melts. Keeping your iron in place touch the solder to the opposite side of the joint. The heat will attract the solder into the joint. This method should help eliminate your problems with the solder not making a good solder joint on your first try. If you get any old solder or other junk on your soldering iron tip wipe it off with a damp rag. Then touch the tip with your solder and melt a little solder onto the tip. This is called 'tinning'. Tinning helps to get an even heat across your soldering tip. This is the procedure I was taught in electronics School. It has served me well over the years and hopefully will help you out also. Best of luck and keep practicing. You'll get it! 🤞

Sir, you are AWESOME!! Thank you very much for posting this EXTREMELY helpful video! All of the stepper motors (with the exception of temperature) were not working in my 05 Saleen's instrument cluster. I followed your video, and completed the removal and install today! I learned so much (today was my first time soldering 😊) from your video. Thank you again for spending your valuable time making the video. Kind regards, Michelle :).

No problem! Glad you got them functioning. Soldering ain’t so hard once you’ve done it a few times.

Thanks for the video! Are the ones for tach and speed the same as the smaller four sensors?

Great video. I have the base model instrument cluster, but looking to try and buy a scrapped premium cluster with the added gauges. Do you think that's possible to do? Otherwise I'd wanna swap the stock green LEDS with brighter red ones. Thanks.

I do have a guide up on “s197 forums” about how to solder on custom leds to the circuit boards. But as for premium cluster; I’d imagine the gauges for both battery and oil pressure will not work as well as the milage I believe is saved onto the board and not the actual ecu something you’d have to look into personally.

FYI, if you're looking to do this so you get a true oil pressure gauge, changing the cluster won't improve anything for you.. The sweep on these always stays in one place because Ford uses pressure switches, not gauges. On cars with a "gauge" its function is the same as an idiot light. In other words, that gauge needle will never change unless the oil pressure drops below about 15 psi.

It’s the wet like gel that you apply to the board so the solder adheres better to the contact point

@@3vReanimated I bought a cheap kit to fix mine I’m waiting for it in the mail my question is when I’m loosening the old solder can I put the solder right on the tit and it heat the surrounding solder up. I’ve never solderd

@@BradFFA You heat the old solder and while you're applying heat to the contact point, you use the sucker to suck the old solder into the suction tool. It is demonstrated in this video.

Stepper motors are probably not made here ANYWAY. Lol
