    I was battling an intermittent overheating issue with my 06 GT in 2018 and it took me 3 months to solve it. I replaced the thermostat, I removed the radiator and had it tested, replaced the radiator cap and replaced the cooling fan assembly with a new one from Ford but still had the issue. My old fan had a burned power wire going into the resistor but this plugin itself looked fine. My problem was in the BEC (power distribution box) in the engine bay. I loosened the 4 bolts in that box which then allowed the wiring harness connectors to drop out. The wiring pin for the high speed fan relay was burned up and had melted the connector housing and the terminal on the BEC was also burned. I got a salvage BEC with the wiring harness connectors attached to it and used the connector from it to repin my factory wiring into it. I used the unburned wire (green/violet) from the salvage connector and joined it to my wiring harness after cutting off the burned wire. I installed the new BEC and reconnected the new unburned connector and reassembled it all and after test driving it voila, problem solved!!! I spent so many hours trying to figure out my problem. I was about to replace the PCM when I checked this BEC. I had no codes and sometimes the fan worked but when driving it the fan would stop working and would no longer come on when I turned on the AC. There are other S197 mustangs online that had the exact same issue I had so there’s obviously some design defect here. I hope that my comments here might help somebody battling the same problem I had. The new fan assembly has a redesigned resistor so I think the old resistor design caused my problem. What I don’t understand though is why it burned up the wiring in the BEC and the green 40A cooling fan fuse did not blow. Makes no sense to me. This was the biggest mystery I ever had with a car!!

    I had this same issue as well. I never noticed my fan was turning off until I ran some codes and noticed there was some oil in the spark plugs. What’s scary about this is that I didn’t get a check engine light so my engine has probably been running hotter than usual for years and this causing internal damage to the valve gaskets.

    @@Jr-iq9hq I think the cause of the issue is the resistor on the fan if you still have the original fan assembly. I’d buy a new resistor from ford and change that as there’s a redesigned resistor that does not get as hot as it’s designed with many holes in it to dissipate the heat.

    If the fan resistor is getting burnt, the fan motor itself is drawing too much current. The solution is a new fan.

    My favorite part about my SVT fan is when it turns on high it sounds like an airplane. That thing moves some serious air. When it’s on high you can feel it standing next to the car. My current problem now though is now my relays in the fuse box fried the plastic. I have no low speed fan. And my high speed fan is on its way out but Im gonna wire in some new hella relays instead.

    Same thing happened to my 96 mustang gt. The thing got fried. I did literally THE same exact thing to combat this shitty wiring harness. It worked for like a week or two before it got all messed up and sparked up. It blew the fuse and made the wiring really hot whenever it worked.

  • @EvanDaly

    @EvanDaly

    Жыл бұрын

    It sounds like you have a bad fan/ fan resistor and doing the manual switch won’t help much but the low speed is on for normal driving and the high speed turns on for the ac or when the car is too hot. Doing the manual switch I bypassed the low speed resistor bc there’s pretty much no point in having a low speed fan

    @@EvanDaly the resistor wasn’t even in the place where it suppose to bewhen i check so i put it where it had to be but that didn’t fix the issue i find the resistor but i haven’t bought it cause i don’t want to spend money with out knowing if that’s the problem cause my car don’t over heat it’s a 2012 v6 it just doesn’t turn on on low speed, so I’m trying to bypass the resistor like you did cause the only problem is that the ac doesn’t work when it’s not moving but if the fan turn on on high speed the ac works but the high speed is not on for a long time that’s why I’m trying to bypass but i didn’t have the problem of the burn on the fuse box.

  • @EvanDaly

    Nice video man 😎👉🏼. My GT fan shit the bed like three days ago crisped up my block pin connector under the fuse box good to and now looking to copy what you did here atm but I just have a couple questions. After cutting off the bad resistor you think you could have just gotten away with reusing the old fan? Or would you still recommend getting a new fan? Guess people are saying the problem is almost always from that resister corroding so if. You just chop out the problem then maybe you could get away with it in theory 🤔 but I don’t really know, could also be the motor in the fan to I’m going to I guess Also just wondering do you just roll around with your fan running at all times? Or are you constantly flipping it all the time to keep it in that cozy temp spot for the block

  • @EvanDaly

    @EvanDaly

    Жыл бұрын

    Yeah if you know your resistor is what’s bad you could keep your stock fan and just cut out the resistor but I wanted to upgrade to the GT500 for better cooling. Also I just run with the fan on all the time if you have a coolant temp gauge that reads accurately you could flip it on and off but I just leave it on

    @@yeiden8854 I would suggest just replacing the fan, I originally tried just removing the resistor and ended up melting 2 inline fuses over the course of a month. Turned out the the resistance issue was strait up coming from the fan motor. I put a amp clamp on it and it was running just below 40 amps. After I replaced the fan and got a new inline fuse again I haven’t had any issues and no it’s not running hot either anymore even while running it constant.

  • @Richw60d
