I'm glad you released this. I've been inspired to start kayaking and trying to find gar in subsidiaries between erie and the Ohio. I have definitely not been prepared enough to handle releasing one once I'd catch one. Thank you for this. We all need this to understand preservation

I am pretty sure we only have Longnose and Shortnose up here. I live in Ohio. There used to be a population of Alligator Gar in the Ohio River but that no longer exist,

excellent informative video. particularly the advice on smaller hooks. i personally think that the use of smaller hooks can be applied to many other large species too.

As I get more into fishing north Texas, I'm falling in love with these beasts. They're absolutely incredible animals. And I have set a goal of 4ft or better. I'll only use your method as it would destroy me to truly harm one. Thanks for the tips and happy fishing.

This is sort of the method i like to use already for long nose gar. A small baitholder hook gets em more often than a treble hook ever will, in the mouth usually too. If itll work for big gar too then cool
