I grew up fishing with my uncle George who passed away a few years back. Every since I found your page I kept telling myself that you remind me just like him. Could catch the mess out of flatheads, crappie, and bass. He told me about caching gar like this with a rope and then here you go posting a video on that as well. I really appreciate all the videos you put out. Brings me back memories of how I grew up fishing. Thank you!
Thank you soooooooo much! I just moved from the blackhills of south dakota to southern Illinois and I kept watching gar take my lures like a dog with a bone and then I couldn't set it... you are a life saver! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
I’d seen you catch gar accidentally, Richard; I never imagined that you’d ever go hunting for them. That rope trick was fascinating; thanks for sharing. David
When he pulled that rope out I knew what he was doing but I’ve never seen it done ! Very interesting ! And honestly that looks a whole lot more fun than using a hook ! I’d have to try that one day in my life time. Thanks for the video! Loved it !

Ive never seen a fisherman with so much knowledge its been a week since i started following this man and he is truly one of the best KZread fishing channels on this platform im surprised he doesnt have more followers
I did this many years ago with my dad using nylon clothes line string. I met two gentlemen on the TENNESSEE River with Gar fishing club shirts near Spring Creek. They claimed they eat “Gar Balls”, cut out the back strip of the gar and boil in water till done, then mix with mashed potatoes and form a ball and deep fry. Delicious! Go get em Richard Gene! You the man!

Richard Gene will NEVER starve !!!
As always Richard, another entertaining, informative video. Well done my friend! In Louisiana nearly 50 years ago, we would do something similar only we used a wadded up piece of old torn panty hose with a piece of red yarn to tie it and left a 3 inch piece of it dangling on each side as an attractant. I like the rope much better, it makes a more realistic presentation and we had no choice but to cut the line and sacrifice the panty hose wad. Thank you for all of your efforts in making your wonderful videos.
These videos make me very happy ! I just wish I could go fishing in Elmer’s boat .
I love watching your videos because I learn something new but I watch some more because of your personality and how much you enjoy fishing
