Hello Sir, you are so right for every single word you said and explained in the most efficient way. I'm a self taught man who started a long long time ago my apprenticeship in the Shakespeare language, I must confess and be honest that the very outset was particularly difficult, it's the least I can say ( especially when you never took one single English class like me at school or never had a chance to have a teacher by your side to teach you the niceties of the language moneywise speaking! and with no one around at all to speak with. My individual language programme was firstly to know how to pronounce properly the basics with the help of various dictionaries like Harrap's, Oxford, Boch... I also used to translate songs from English/American/Australian/Canadian rock bands or singers like : David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Slade, Kiss, Aerosmith, ACDC, Saga, Rush..., broadly 6000 sentences! Even though I had the chance to go, live and work in the USA for several years (and like you said in your video) I was already fluent at that time before I moved to the United States, that was the reason why I was able to learn, speak and make myself understood more quickly on the spot. I've been teaching English and Italian all levels since 2003 and work now and then as a translator for a dental medical office: medical lecture, dental publication, technical English course in dental surgery. THANKS A LOT, SIR! I agree with you about everything, read, listen, speak, understand, read, listen, speak, understand..... IT'S THE ONLY MAGICAL KEY WORD.

If they are listening to your advice carefully and seriously now, it's a good sign that they're motivated already. As an English teacher myself, I've found many young learners esp. those pressured by their parents will turn off their ears whenever anyone tries to motivate them, so recognizing what kind of learner they are is important for the sanity of the teacher. If the horse refuses to drink, then I'd save my breath for better use. Good learners will do all (if not more) or some of the tips you give in this video. Great video, thanks!

Dear Gideon, greetings from Tours, France. Thank you so much for all the efforts that you put in these videos. They're all ridiculously valuable to me. I have this question about tip #5 Listen. I'm quite comfortable listening and understanding English while watching a video. Reading the lips and the general facial expressions is very helpful, even if this is not conscious. On the other hand, listening without an image or person to look at is a lot more difficult. For instance over the phone or on the radio. I'm also often embarrassed when I have a face-to-face conversation with someone, and I suddenly realize I can't help staring at their mouth. Is it just another bad habit of mine? Any bonus tip here? Thanks a lot.

I once discombobulated my hairy cats by bringing to my garden a pack of bald rats. The cats got so upset they lost their hair, now worn as wigs by the rats' heir.

Thanks for the tips - they are so incredibly simple, but must always be reminded to the language learners. So many people get dissapointed and give up on English learning because they have unrealistic goals, or they expect that someone (most likely a teacher) will teach them.... Language can't be taught - it has to be learnt - 7 of the tips are focued on what student is supposed to do and only one includes a teacher/school. It should be an eye operner for many learners.

Excellent tips I would say as an English teacher. You have recapitulated the art of learning any language (not just English) very beautifully. Although each and every point is very extensive in its own sense, but to be realistic, instead of watching or going into plethora of videos which are all good in their opinions, this is a satisfying sum of instructions to learn all the four skills of a language.
