How To Become A Public Adjuster (Licensing Path) - Public Adjuster Basics
Obtaining a claims adjuster license can be the start of a rewarding career.
It pays well, it's recession-proof, and unlike most lucrative jobs these days, you don't need a college degree to enter the field.
Many public adjusters are self-employed, so, if you like the idea of being your own boss, it might be a good career choice for you.
Today, we're going to talk to you about
✔️ What are the requirements for becoming a public adjuster
✔️ What are the steps you need to take to get your public adjuster license
✔️ A couple of extra steps for becoming a PA in Florida
It's the same process in pretty much every state with the exception of the state of Florida so let's get right to it.
What I would really love is for you to comment below if you find out something different or if there's any additional information that I'm missing.

Hi!!!! Your video was amazing! I have a question. Can a public adjuster work simultaneously in two different states for example Florida and Colorado?

Yes of course! You just need have a separate license for each state you work in.
hey love your videos. I'm having difficulty finding a firm that will offer me an apprenticeship. I have my 6-20 and want to self appoint but have no details on how to self appoint. can you please give me a hand or a resource to self appoint. maybe make video on how to self appoint.

I believe you only need to hold your 620 for one year, then you can take the PA exam and become a PA
How do you find clients? Is it like ambulance chasing? I am also thinking about becoming a real estate agent and the licensing process sounds similar. I can see being double licensed can help build client base for both services.

In my early days as a public adjuster, I identified potential clients by seeking out homes showing signs of underpaid hurricane damage, such as noticeable roof repairs or blue tarps. I focused on understanding their needs, asked about their insurance claim experiences, and offered to review their claims if they felt underpaid. My method relied heavily on door-knocking and personal interaction. This approach isn't universal, but it suited my style and client needs.
Hi! I live in Arizona and I am studying for my Property/Casualty here. I am a little confused about one thing. If I get my P&C license would I automatically be licensed as a Adjuster if it is part of the exam or would I have to take a separate licensing exam to be an adjuster? I appriciate all your help.
@CommercialClaimsShow
Жыл бұрын
Getting your Property & Casualty (P&C) license does not automatically qualify you to work as an adjuster. While the P&C licensing exam may cover some topics related to adjusting, such as insurance policy provisions and claims handling, a separate license is typically required to work as an adjuster. So you will need to check the specific requirements for becoming a licensed adjuster in your state to determine what steps you need to take to become licensed.
If you already hold an all lines adjuster license do you still need to take the pre licensing course before taking the PA exam? *not Florida

I don't think so, no. I'm not positive.
Hi!!! I just wanted to know if there’s any possibility to get a retroactive apprenticeship before completing the six months with the 620 All lines adjuster license? I have been claims assistant for 4 years with different firms
@CommercialClaimsShow

Hi there! I'm not really sure I understand the question. If you've had a 620 for a year or more, you do not have to do an apprenticeship.
I do not think a course is required. If you pass the exam, you should be good. I'm a licensed all-lines adjuster, as well as a licensed general-lines insurance agent. I just scheduled my public adjuster licensing exam. I have seen nothing saying that a course is required.

What are your thoughts on being an independent or company adjuster before becoming a public adjuster? Or is it admissible to go straight to public adjusting?

I was once an insurance adjuster before I switched to becoming a Public Adjuster. Who you choose to represent truly depends on you. However, it's important to understand how insurance works and the basics of the job before entering the field.
I passed PA test and organized an LLC, finished contract and I just need to submit the application. However, I bonded the LLC and want to get the LLC licensed but do I need to be personally licensed first? Does that mean I need 2 bonds for myself and my LLC? I’m in Illinois

I believe in Illinois you only need one. I am licensed in Illinois, and only I (myself) is licensed and bonded. Hope that helps.

What if I have my adjuster license for my home state? Will I need to still need to take the exam for certified public adjuster?
@CommercialClaimsShow

In most states, no. All you have to do is apply. But in some states, you will need to sit for another exam.
If I passed the all lines adjuster exam does that count towards public adjusting

If Florida, you would have to become an apprentice for 6months, then take another exam for the public adjuster license.

@@CommercialClaimsShow Thank you. What about if I passed all my licensee requirements, can a public adjusting firm appoint me right away? Or they have to make sure they have vacancies to comply with what the law requires which is maximum 4 apprentices?
When i search for public adjuster pre licensing courses it brings up results for insurance adjuster pre licensing courses. Is it the same?

Independent adjusters are paid by insurance companies to adjust the claim on their behalf, whereas 'public adjusters' work exclusively for the insurance policyholder.

It means those who appoint themselves as a public adjuster without being licensed or authorized to do so by the state. In most states, public adjusters must be licensed and regulated by the Department of Insurance or a similar regulatory agency.
