Excellent !!!!!! I am geting ready to use mine for the 1st time in yearrrsssss. Old lube dried and hardened up in the sizer. Had no idea where to start on the removal of old caked up lube. Then I find this video. Took some time however i got all the old stuff out and now works good as new. Thank you, this video is priceless for my disassemble, clean and put back together!!!!!

Ammosmith , even after all these years you always come up trumps. Have just been given a old 450 ( with the ratchet and spanner ) Also with four dies and the thing that seats the gas checks . Now thanks to you I understand a lot more. Thank you.

Thanks for posting this. I picked up a 450 with no manual at a yard sale.

Grat Video I do the installation of the die retaining nut without taking out the nose punch by putting a 12mm socket that fits just inside the nut. Then take your 7/8" wrench and screw it in.

I agree! Great Video!! I just picked up a Lyman 450 without a manual, from my father and was wondering how to use it. I help him years ago, but before I had enough brains to pay attention to what he was telling me. Thanks again!! PS I have seen several of your videos now and really appreciate your attention to detail. Keep up the great work!

Ahh, the good old days. I was in Desert Storm and we really handed it to them.

It seems to. Where I live it gets up to 105 in the Summer and it does very well. It's sticky but if you want to harden it up just add about 1/4-1/2 pound of parrafin wax to it and it will harden the lube. It's abut as soft as any other lube but it's not runny. It smokes a lot less than the 50/50 alox beeswax formula.

@TheRufus10 The 4500 has a sealed bottom and a built in heater. I think you can expect to do about 500+ an hour.

I was thinking 9mm or 357 but a 30-06 will ruin your day no matter what you put in it. The only thing that will stop a rifle is a level 4 rifle plate. In that case you want a .30 caliber magnum with a AP bullet loaded in it. It may not look that much more powerful at first glance but the energy is squared.

Thanks for the fast reply and for you videos. All very helpfull. Does your homemade lube do good in hot temps? I shoot out doors a lot in 90 to 100 degree temps most of the year.

Yes with a pillow to ease my pain. I'll cast for 6 hours straight. I would rather stand and cast but allas no room. It's safer to stand so you can jump out of the way if something goes wrong. FYI..CA has banned lead based wheel weights in CA. I think they're going to use iron and zinc. Zinc can be cast into bullets in a iron mold. Zinc BTW is self lubricating and very hard. In the right shape will defeat any soft body armor made.

Great video! I just ordered a Lyman 4500. I still have to get the H&I (does that stand for anything or is it just the die name?) and a top punch for .40S&W..after that, I'm all set for on caliber. :)

Yes. Too much pressure on the lube and actually push the bullet out and leave a "worm" of lube oozing out of the die behind the bullet.
