@ammosmith Awesome, Thank you for your reloading videos!! I am currently making the same bench in my garage. Can't say enough about how much your video's help out!

@bsrman36 Run out is where the bullet isn't seated perfectly in line with the case. The tool is a RCBS Case Master...I bought two of them and use the other dial indicator.

Thanks. Got the RCBS Case Master today and tested a box of factory Remington Core-Lokt 150gr in 30-06. Runout was varying from 0.003 to amazing 0.013.

@ammosmith I just ordered the Lee Classic Cast Press and the Redding Type S 2 die set. Hopefully it will improve my groupings on my rifle loads. I will still use my turret press for pistol loads.

Run-out is where the center of the bullet and the center of the case aren't exactly lined up. So if you were to spin it the case would spin balanced but the bullet would wobble.

I need to get one. I hope to get some "loaners" from different companies to try out and video.

@crystalragland01 I don't have one to test yet. When I get one I want to do a review or rather side by side comparison.

Thanks man! Great demo. I have one of these coming to replace my Dillon "Precision" seating die. It smashes unsupport jackets where the seating stem makes contact with the bullet...like in 68g HDY BTHP's. I usually load my 'accuracy critical' long range rnds singly even though it's on a progressive press. I tool clamp from Uniquetek-fot-com keeps everything solid. one question, what are your thoughts on polishing the seating stem to prevent the 'touch marks' on your projectiles?
@ammosmith15 жыл бұрын
The die seats off the ogive, so the points will vary a bit but you can buy a "meplat uniforming tool" from Midway...it's about $45. I shoot groups that are so small that it boggles the mind. I'll help you do the same too.

This the the RCBS Case Master..with an extra dial indicator.

I'm sold on these dies and now planning to replace my Lee dies. Will it be as effective if I choose to keep using my Lee classic turret press? Or should I get a single stage press? Thanks for your videos, I learned a lot from them!

This is a great video. I only wish I saw it before I ordered RBCS competition set for my 30-06. It seems that the runout for redding is 0.003 and for RCBS 0.006? How does this translate into group size in your experience? Thanks.

Not much at 100 meters. But when you get to 500 meters and beyond it makes a huge difference.

TERRIFIC VIDEO. You just saved me $140+. I was going to order 2 of the RCBS Comp Dies because I wanted the window feature. I have a Redding Comp Die for my 6PPC and like it fine. I am glad I did my research and found your video.

We’re wanting to see you adjust to OAL using micrometer on the die

@Navyguy0023 Yes. The cabinet maker made it out of maple.

Which single step press is better when comparing between RCBS and Redding?
@ammosmith15 жыл бұрын
When I get the money I plan to get a set in .223 Remington.

sad to say my Bonanza/Forster BR seater die has more runout than my Redding standard seater die. What puzzles me is Foresters chamber sleeve is tight along with the bullet guide at the top.

Redding makes an amazing set of dies. I have a Forster standard die set and it's decent but Redding is where I spend my money.
@Navyguy002314 жыл бұрын
Is your bench based on the nrma plans?

What is runout?

You mentioned the seater plug was ground to fit a specific bullet. Are there other profiles available?

Yes. Or custom. Send them the bullet you want to seat and they will grind it for you.
@ammosmith15 жыл бұрын
You're welcome!
@ammosmith11 жыл бұрын
No...these are specific unlike the RCBS version.
@ammosmith15 жыл бұрын
Correct, it only seats the bullet.
@ammosmith14 жыл бұрын
@chiefg20002000 You would get better results with a single stage press. Less moving parts.

I would concur with the previous comment - while the set-up of the Redding die is straight forward in the simple instruction sheet - covering the basic set up would improve on the current video. At the same time, an updated video could also visually illustrate the calibration of the micrometer. Minor points, however, it would bring everything together in 1-2 updated videos. Still a good amount of useful information. I just purchased the Redding Competition die based on this series of older KZread videos - so, thank you.

I may have spoken too soon regarding the Redding die - have to return it to a gunsmith to properly re-tap the threads in the lock ring - some inspector appears to have been sleeping at Redding on this day. Other elements of the die are well made - but any unit is only as good as its weakest link.

Redding die lock ring and set screw were damaged. Having it repaired by my gunsmith. Disappointed in the inspection by Redding.

YOU DID NOT SHOW HOW TO SET THE DIE ITSELF TO A NEW ROUND. YOU NEED MORE LIGHT ON YOUR PRESS!!

You failed to cover the most important part - how to set the die. Funny, you go from Vid 1 to Vid and not a word about set-up. Not very instructional but appreciate the effort.
