A big difference with wealthy people dressing ‘ plainly’ is that their white button down dress shirt was $500, versus the $35 one I would buy at Kohl’s. Wearing real $180 Tory Burch sandals. Paying $300 for a pair of shorts. They may look plain to us, but the price tag and where they buy their clothes from is a huge clue.

Unless it's a Tux for a black tie event, it's graphic tees, jeans and sneakers. Anyone spending $500 on a shirt, isnt' smart.

Partially true. The biggest difference is quality fabrics l. You can often go to department stores during seasonal changes and snag those $500 shirts for $75. Made from linen or silk will automatically make you look more high class. As long as it isnt sheer. Tommy Hilfiger is great brand for grabbing the basic capsule items. Button downs and belts.

My favorite Dolly Parton quote of all time is “It takes a lot of money to look this cheap.” I know she’s joking, but she is absolutely the epitome of being herself and being aware but unapologetic about her actions, feelings, and style. I’m not sure how you define High Society, but there is still a “quiet” upper social class that is based more on education, certain common values and behavior, and family background, independent of how much money they individually have. These tend to buy their wardrobes for quality and longevity, not status. It’s true that wealthy people often buy more expensive items, but anyone can buy high-quality, classic styles, one doesn’t have to be rich.

There are so many people out there from around the world who dress differently because they choose to and don't have a uniform that they must adhere to simply because of status. The obvious example is the Kar-Jenner family, lots of money and mostly dress like strippers, head to toe logos, or just nearly naked. The most stunning dresser I've seen was at the Royal wedding in Jordan, Sheikha Moza of Quatar, covered up from head to, toe, no skin, no logos, pure style and class, mostly vintage. WHY does the majority seem obssesed with QUIET LUXURY? To this majority, I comment: Just be your BEST self, with whatever you can afford: High end, mid range, consignment and thrift shops and stop trying to be what you are not just to impress people you don't like, or even know. and by trying to impress on social media. WHO CARES in the grand scheme of things. I SURE DON'T. Just be happy if you are healthy, have food to eat, shelter, maybe loved ones, to love and care for, and if you LACK, what can be done about it? Katherine Hepburn even shopped Thrift in her day, and had a wonderful individual look. I believe Anna is trying to be Inclusive instead if exclusive. CLASS is kindness, graciousness, sweet, honest, hardworking, compassionate, authentic, real, clean, groomed, both, herself, and environment, and does not flaunt all the expensive things she can afford , leaving young impressionistic girls to only focus on the material, the things everyone else appears to own. Not everyone can buy or even want to buy all the stuff, it sure won't fit in your coffin. WHATEVER ethnicity everyone is!!!

I love that you included our dear belated Lord Bath in your photo lineup. Culture and tradition are such an important element. There are circles in England where it is rather irrelevant how you dress, within reason. Lord Bath is a prime example. He dressed rather eccentrically, it matched his unorthodox lifestyle, his tastes in controversial art, and his extracurricular activities. But it was his title that gave him freedom to live as such and be accepted within British high society. If he were an American, of no lineage, trying to make his way in, he'd have been treated very differently. Societal class, your family, your lineage, are factors in being accepted within certain circles. It's been that way over the centuries and still has a stronghold today. Albeit, there are a few exceptions but they are to be considered exceptions, rarities in the greater scheme of things. I see some changes with the current younger generation but not markedly so. Class still matters in England, it's a general understanding that outsiders are often unaware of. Who you are is relevant, attire is a secondary matter, one that is dependent on who you are. There is nuance, introduction, manners, and demeanor are vital for anyone entering. Even then, you may be entertained on the fringe but never accepted fully in. Grace is observed and scrutinized over time, sometimes decades. The English elite are slow to warm under their outward, public, politeness.

My mother always had a simple, quiet, conservative elegance. And we weren't rich either, far from it. Classic styles, well made material, and always tasteful. She never tolerated trashy looks. I have worn pearls all of my life, and still continue to do so at my older age. I have never followed the dictates of fashion, most of them are horrendous. I personally love the styles of the 40's, 50's and 60's, which were always feminine, classy and exuded elegance....minus the hippy look, which we associated with the hobo and bum's clothing as a youngster in those days. Nothing wrong with working outfits, we have a farm, so we have plenty of working clothes and footwear. But, we would never venture out wearing muddy ratty footwear and dirty, ripped and stinky clothing. First, it's not appropriate, second, why would you think people would want to be around that. JMHO.

Same, we always dressed conservative, and it makes me laugh that for tiktokers that means old money. We were poor haha but I guess it was just normal in my familiy to dress conservative because we wanted to differentiate ourselves from the prostitutes who had a bad reputation and will dress like influencers dress nowadays. I remember that back then I had a boyfrined who pushed me to dress sexy because my style was boring to him. I have to admit that I changed my style because of him, but after many years exploring other alternative styles now that I'm older I have settled for my orginal conservative style and I'm loving it again. Makes me feel more relaxed and somehow invisible, which I enjoy.

I personally came from old money with no more money (starting from my dad, no more money 😅) in my country. It's in their character and discipline, as I have observed from my grandparents, that makes them so different from the masses. So even if we have no more money, there are values (that helps us redeem ourselves financially) and even family stories and legends passe down from generation to another. My grandma dresses what she likes but gracefully. My dad dressed neatly. Nothing too fancy.

Same.. we got booted out of old money bec my father side are politicians and greedy. At least we're gifted with smart genes, and that's already enough for you to say you have status. You need to be educated and I am not afraid to catch up with intellectual standards. I'd rather be from a noble family with smart people than rich ones. New money, middle class. ❤

In book The Millionnaire Next Door, the author wrote "It's not about looking rich, it's being rich" 😂 I follow you because you teach us women on how to be high value in every facet of our lives and the way we look is only one facet. This is how ppl kind of copy your content about the old money look and make it popular while we all know it's far far beyond looks. It's how women love and respect ourselves by the way we carry ourselves. It's how to set boundaries with men and hold ourselves accoubtable. Oh my gosh I can go on and on hahaha. I still cant afford Hermes bag and I dont think I spend that much money on a bag even if i get super wealthy one day, but you indeed change the way I view my self as individual. I carry myself in class and elegance, the very things i could not have access to growing up due to poverty. True class and elegance are what you promote and I am always thankful to you for being the pioneer of these all before they even became popular

My mother cleaned houses so we saw plenty wealthy families. One owned a bank and they would exclusively go back to school shopping in NYC. And we were in the south! So it was understated but I'm guessing from barneys. They gave us hand-me-downs to give away or keep. Lots of brands I didn't know. One teenage daughter did love Abercrombie but everything else wasnt really branded, just good quality and expensive. This was the early oughts.

For the Africans, you will never see those muted beige, white and gray colors. It’s all gold plus some bold stand out color, and glam makeup. The only time I see black wealth dress preppy is when they are trying to blend into their predominantly Caucasian social circles in the USA/Europe. I’m glad you touched on that this.

I’ve been around wealthy people: they dress how they want to dress. Some of them are preppy, some have a very trendy “off the IG blogs” style. One commonality that I see is that their style often revolve around their hobbies. Tennis buffs might dress a bit more sporty. Party girls more risky and trendy. Also varies by age. Don’t try to dress wealthy. Just try to buy the best quality of whatever style you like, maintain them well and know how to style the different pieces.

Thank you for one more interesting and insightful material. I think the golden rule for true high society used to be (or should be) propriety and at least some minimal regard for others. Appreciation for good quality and beautiful items or fashion goods was the cherry on the top. There was this old sayig which, roughly translated, suggests that the value of your clothes should never be more than the value of you as a person.

But I rather a diversity in style rather than just a category of it. for example, elegant style itself has many different types and its not the old money aesthetic which most refer as elegant style
