Yes, being classy is not the same as being rich. My husband and I are not rich but we make a comfortable living. I don’t buy luxury bags or shoes or clothing. But I do buy clothes that fit well, are timeless, and modest. I also sit and speak like a lady. I don’t slouch, and I walk with confidence. I speak kindly and respectfully to others. These are all things my parents taught me.

I remember a colleague ranting because his wife secretly bought luxury bags. He's not mad about the expense. It's about her not disclosing it and being a desperate social climber. I heard they divorced.
When someone talks negatively or poorly of me or my friends, I don’t acknowledge it and start speaking kindly of others and positive events.
I worked for really old money families in Manhattan. The men were not around much, but the women were always extremely smart, kind, well rounded and well traveled, never wore anything with logos or flashy jewelry, many got blowouts and manicures but no polish, they walked everywhere on the UES (car and driver were to take the kids to school and classes) and did not brag. Example: instead of saying they were going to their mansion in the Hamptons , they would say “we are going out East for the weekend”. If someone is very flashy, braggy = new money.

Very accurate. Understated elegance, subtle grace; courtesy and manners; a distinct penchant for archaism: all of these characteristics exemplify old money. Sadly they are declining at a precipitous pace due to social media & the loss of traditions 😔
A few things that come to mind before even watching the video: being rude, staring at people, gossiping, bullying, behaving like a narcissist, lacking empathy, lacking curiosity about the world and about learning and understanding new things. In terms of materialistic matters I think it comes down to hygiene, and being resourceful. Respect is a key word for class. Respect for your body, for other people, for nature, for your environment.

Healthy self - esteem means to regard yourself with respect, appreciation and awareness, which means you have bounderies, compassion and therefore class. One more point, to judge others on their appearance instead of character means lack of class too.
This was such a good video. I was brought up in Destin Florida and I’ve seen so many people with money. Money means nothing without kindness. I could care less who has what. Some of the wealthiest people in that town lived modestly but were genuine. Their were so many people faking rich and they were rude. Class has zero to do with money and handbags and things. Class is someone who in genuine and kind and caring.

Thank you so much, Anna, for emphasizing compassion as a major component of class. True class makes the world a better place. And warmest congratulations on your newest family member--Teddy is beyond adorable.
My grandmother taught us that ladies and gentlemen always try to make others feel comfortable in their presence. That includes ourselves and our own boundaries to maintain comfort for everyone
I used to think that even if you knew someone for a long time, you should stick by them. But she kept on displaying very uncomfortable behavior. Kept making me feel uncomfortable, and finally I had to cut ties. I did this in person, and as kindly as possible, but still. If hanging out with a person brings you down, and causes anxiety more than fun, you can cut ties no matter who the person is, or how long you've known them.
Anna, Teddy is darling! In addition to classy people being kind to animals. Classy pet owners do not assume that everyone wants to hold their pet. I have allergies, and therefore I love pets from a distance. 💖

Oh my goodness. Point #9 is so true. I have a friend who is a multimillionaire and the stingiest person you’ll ever meet. He’s a trust fund baby… so it’s not like he has to work hard all his life. But his stinginess even extends to his only child. I sometimes have to step in and call him out (nicely) on it. Telling him not to be “that man” lol.
I love the fact that people show their kindness to the most vulnerable people and even animals! Thanks for the great video and Teddy is so cute 🥰

So excited for your new video, Anna! Treating others with no respect and thinking you are better than others = no class
People without class also have absolutely no respect for others whether its the way you talk to someone or even listen to others. No manners is another one. Judgmental of others is also without class. You don't know what the other person is going through. Great video and yes, a person with the utmost class loves animals!

I love conversations about class, grace and elegance. Kindness, compassion and helping others is extremely classy and elegant thing to do. Only doesn’t make someone classy. It’s what you do with it to make the world better and equitable for others. It doesn’t take much to have class. Well summarised @Terry Starr, basing on some comments on this videos do you think this is turning into a misinformation, hate enabler channel? I’ll tell you why I ask, the Harry not having class being sold here is not compassionate. People jumping in to attack his wife - Classy people are not meant to behave that way. I worry that Racists will end up being comfy here & I might not be able to pay a blind eye.
@mikefozzer6415

Making people feel comfortable could be a sign of people pleasing attitude, no need for humor so you could be seen as nice. Class means healthy mindset which equals to be firm at times because being assertive is healthy. Reciprocity is also important to understand, you see people for what they are, not for what you want them to be. Demanding kindness or going over the board with kindness often means insecurity and not healthy self-esteem. Act apropriately in given situation, not going out of your way to be kind, because kind is something you either are or not, it doesn't have a scale as many seem to think.

@@CD-lr4su I am not concerned about that reference in the least. Harry and Meghan are living and dying by their actions, not anyone's skin color. Harry's behavior was used as an example; I think they are peripheral to this channel and the points Anna is trying to make about our own outlook and behaviors and what they say about us.
I've seen people do each and every one of these things my entire life. I recognized this behavior when I was young and knew what they were doing. A good reminder to evaluate myself and make sure I'm not doing any of them.
At the end, class is respect for yourself and for others .. and for animals of course 😻🐶💖
Interesting and informative as always. When I think about old money and class uniting in perfect harmony a picture of HM Queen Elizabeth II springs immediately to mind. She nailed it.
Hello Anna, I agree with the points you made. Generous people usually live longer and are happier, even if we don't have much there's always something we can give: kind words, a genuine compliment when appropriate... You said it all "Please" and "Thank you" are simple and yet powerful words. Displaying good manners and treating others with consideration and respect is a must no matter the social class or type of car we drive, that's possible for anyone! It reminded me a Bible advice "Do to others what you would like them to do to you" [Matthew 7:12]. Thank you for the video and for introducing us to the new member of the family :) xx
From this, I understood how classy my parents are, and how well they bought up me and my sister, as people with class. Feeling proud.🥰
I really love this. Harry did us a favor. He demonstrated that just because you live in a very nice house doesn't mean you're not a shack inside. The thing about what a lot that you and others teach is basically how rich people get rich. You have to have wisdom and decorum. You have to know when to keep your mouth shut. How to say things. Those people end up with money. Like you said. Only certain kinds of people should have access to The trick is to be that kind of person. When you get there, what you need will come. I wish I were your age. Or younger even. I wish I'd been smart enough to pay attention to these things when I was growing up. But it's never too late. I like the old money style because it's not terribly pretentious. It looks good. Wears well. You get your money's worth. But it's not showy. Doesn't draw attention For the wrong reasons. And I do aspire. Thank you for making videos like this.

I absolutely love that you included kindness to animals in your list. Your puppy is very precious!
People with class don't do what you're doing Anna. People with class do not accuse or criticize others that they do not have class because they have behaved or said something inappropriate at some point in their lives. Instead of crucifying others, people with class try to understand what that person is going through in life, the high level of stress, family and social rejection, anxiety, pain, depression and the pressure that a human being is feeling. , all that can make a person say inappropriate things at some point in life. Is it that no one has ever said something to others that they shouldn't have said and then regrets. If someone is free from sin, then let them cast the first stone.
As always, I'm 100% agree with it. Thanks a lot, my great teacher, Anna. I'm learning pretty much about watching your videos. Thank you, Anna. It was a great workshop :)
Such great reminders. And might I add, observing others and their actions can also help us see what is elegant and what is not, for example seeing someone chew with their mouth open! I love your new addition, just cute as a button.
As always, you hit the nail on the head! Teddy! OMG how adorable is he? What a lucky dog. You must be in love his face is just so sweet! May you both have a long and healthy life together.
Oh my goodness! I think Teddy should come to live with me!! He is adorable & I'm sure you both will bring countless joy to each other's life.
Love these pointers! I have always been an observer and much more of a listener than a talker and recently went on a first date with a new fella and he refused to pay. That for me is a person who is tactless and has no class whatsoever. I personally dislike people who boast, talk endlessly, dislike animals and show no compassion or empathy. That for me is a person who lacks refinement and better to be alone than being with someone like that. Also, in my experience people are very good at putting up a pretence but their true colours eventually show and I always have the courage to walk out.

I truly enjoy watching your videos. I agree with most of what you say, and you aren't afraid to point out your own humanity. I'm sharing your channel with my daughters, who both think confidence is the best fashion accessory.
Anna, Teddy is ADORABLE!! I'm an animal lover in general but I confess I'm very partial to dogs of all kinds. Your points are so clear and so right. Thank you for another great video.
Congratulations on your newest addition to the family! Teddy is absolutely adorable. Secondly, thank you for highlighting this topic. I truly enjoy your various content on etiquette and watching how far you have evolved as a person. Much love and support! 😊

Great info! Many of those things are what I teach in "charm" classes for pre-teens. Having class and good manners will open more doors for you than money will. Also...your doggie is precious!
Wonderful words and advice about how to treat service people. Yes, compassion is everything!
