Stop 🛑 with the word EXPENSIVE! Only things that are for sale are expensive. We are not for sale! You need to use the word elegant.😂🧐. It’s an English language nuance.

Looking “expensive” which is actually looking classy is far from faking to be rich. I come from a working class family and my grandparents were teachers, my grandmother taught me etiquette and other things from my childhood and now when people meet me on the street they think that I’m a lawyer when I’m actually a tattoo artist so nailed it 😂

Lol it's so funny to get the "lawyer" comment! I come from a line of hardworking, poor, pioneer ancestors, and yet now that I have the means, I choose to dress in a way that makes me feel feminine and elevated! This has led to random peers stating that they thought I worked in real estate and others have literally nicknamed me "lawyer" 😅😂 I won't deny that it feels good 💁🏼‍♀️🪭💅🏻

The problem is the word " expensive". Because if the person is not wealthy, then trying to look "expensive", does give a fake vibe. However, looking well dressed, put together, elegant, classy, dress well is not related to money.

Anna, you illustrated it perfectly in the inverse. your normal is well put together and elegant, the day you didn’t dress like that you felt reduced. people are triggered by the word expensive. sorry, you’re not going to find clothes that Anna is talking about on Shien. But, you can look in alternate places, like thrift shops, Poshmark, or just buy less. yes a Lilisilk blouse is expensive, and maybe you cannot afford it, but Anna has given so much instruction as to how to use the money you have wisely.

Honestly I dress this way because it costs less because it’s timeless fashion and I don’t have to keep buying clothes and it looks tidy and presentable. I’m not trying to look rich!! It’s just a very efficient style. It’s also very easy to adjust this to my Indian culture too by wearing my traditional jewellery. I love this. I’ll save a lot with this style.

Anna, can I just say how much I LOVE how you address the condescending/snarky/hateful comments? Rather than degrade yourself by getting into a vulgar back-and-forth KZread drama war, you take their comment, create monetized content from it, and expose their ignorance. This is a perfect example - "No one wants to look cheap", EXACTLY. If you look cheap, you will be treated cheaply. Every woman should want to look polished and elevated, which, yes, implies that you have money - and yes, money = power. I don't know who is still pretending that money doesn't matter, or that there is anything wrong with wanting to look presentable.

Exactly. Anna is not telling people to buy the most expensive brands or only designer, she is trying to educate about finding clothes, accessories, etc that look expensive in the sense of being good quality, well made, more classical designs etc. Yes some recommended brands are more expensive than H&M or Shein, but they are also not the most expensive brands + like with most things in life, something that doesn’t cost a lot is also likely to be made cheaply so yes, quality does mean spending a bit more or spending time to find those items, thrifting them, waiting for a sale, etc.

Looking “expensive” for me means: 1. Looking like you made an effort and “invested” time and energy. 2. Looking like you are comfortable with how you look and feel in your own skin and clothes. 3. Looking like how you dress matters to YOU. My kids at times tell me things like: why are you “dressed” (meaning I am overdressed)? Who even cares? Who are you trying to impress? It matters to me, I care, I want to show myself I am worthy of looking my best. Period!

I used to buy expensive clothes/bags just to look rich. Some women go through that stage when social validation is fulfilling. But as I age, i realized that it is more important to pay your mortgage, your pension plan and your kids college education and the rest doesn't really matter. Nowadays, all I want is to just look decent and to balance my finance between paying important bill, once or twice vacation and not looking destitute with my attire.

Fact is that "looking expensive" and "looking classy" CAN coincide, but are not one and the same. You can look classy at any societal level, if you can't afford the real deal, you can always make the best of what you can afford. It's not a matter of "faking to be rich", is a matter of "showing the best version of yourself".

Yes, it's true that people suddenly treat you differently when you are put together. You don't even have to wear the most expensive clothes you can afford. Way more important is, that the clothes fit you, look well kept. When I started to wear colours and styles that actually flatter me, people began to treat me way better than before. To be honest, it is still unnerving sometimes. Thank you Anna for giving me ideas on how to slowly improve my own style.

I really resonate with this! I've leveled up my everyday grooming and styling since watching your videos and I've never felt more self-validated and put together. When I slack for a day or wear a t-shirt out of the house, I really feel the negative impact on my energy. I've also been practicing stoicism, feeling happy for people instead of jealousy, and I think this is helping me attract the lifestyle I want. I had a very poor and dirty childhood, but I feel like I've overcome that when I carry myself in an elegant and graceful way. Love your message, Anna Bey. You're like the big sister I never had.

The power of dressing up....I went to the court house to pay for a traffic ticket so I wore court appropriate clothes. Everyone else there was wearing sweatpants. Four different people asked me if I was an attorney (which I'm not). Not one person, FOUR different people. This really displays the power of putting your best foot forward and dressing for the occasion. As a result, they lowered my ticket and it didn't get reported to my insurance company :)

Ever since I started following your advices, I've received tons of compliments on the way I dress. And no, I haven't bought anything expensive because I'm still a student, but I do love the thrift shops, and because of you I know what type of fabrics, shapes, and clothing to look for and I feel my best when wearing them. I've rid myself of the habit of being too dressed down and since then I've always felt confident about myself. I also found that dressing up for the day makes me more productive. I agree with you that people are not actually trying to look expensive, it's just that your fashion recommendations work best for most ladies. Plus the timelessness of it is a relief that you don't have to follow trends anymore.

I want to say something about the ignorant people who say you shouldn’t look “expensive” if you don’t come from a rich background. When my family came to the US from Europe 60 years ago (!!! - yes I am 60), they had NOTHING. Not even a passport - they came as refugees. But they had the clothes on their backs, which were all made by dressmakers and tailors in the old country. They dressed like a million bucks even though they only had a couple of things. Before my grandparents came to the USA they were in Brazil for seven years, where they ended up owning two clothing stores and a factory. My sister and I - who started school unable to speak English but well before the days of ESL - had beautiful clothing for years (until my grandparents sold up and came to America!). Dressing well does not mean you have a lot of money. It means you respect yourself. The other day I was in lower Manhattan with a college friend visiting from California. This woman walked past in a mesh dress that showed EVERYTHING. No bra. The dress itself was beautiful - I’m sure it was VERY expensive. But the woman looked like - well, a porn star - walking on the street in broad daylight. I have a lot of respect for you Anna and what you have accomplished in your life. Don’t listen to these jealous low lifes!!

Looking expensive has so many different roots. Lookimg expensive is how we all should feel and I am not talking about money, I refer to have enriched lifed with the things, places and people you share with. My late grandma was spending most of her time with animals, doing "dirty" and heavy work, other part she spent in a yard and other creating clothes by her own, she had Burda which was the top magazine for tailors those years then, when she could she dresses like a lady, she traveled also sometimes but in my description she was expesive lady, she had a worth for all what she could do and how she acted, how people loved her, how beautiful she was outside and inside. For me, that all makes you being an Expensive person, expensive woman❤

Many people can't understand the purpose of this channel. Anna teaches us how to be the best version of ourselves, how to be put together but mostly how to elevate our manners! Personally I improved my knowledge in style and I'm learning how to elevate a simple outfit. This doesn't mean I want to show off wealth, just have a nice and tidy appearance

I think one of the most attractive qualities is being authentic. That includes being transparent about your upbringing and background. For those pretending like they came up wealthy, a truly rich person will be able to see right through that. However, there’s nothing wrong with a looking your absolute best, while being authentic and transparent about who you are, and where you came from. That’s attractive.

It's not just a way to dress, it's also a matter of how you're putting yourself together inside as you said, so many people struggle to understand that apparently, how sad. Sometimes I think about who I would be if I didn't change my habits, challenge myself and change my wardrobe... I prefer not to know honestly!

Maybe it's just my interpretation of the content Ana's put out, but I've always felt like as far as clothes, make-up etc (material things), she helps women to work with what they have and can afford to look put together, beautiful, and elegant. Doesn't matter what the $ in their bank account. I've taken her advice and adjusted it so it fits my budget and lifestyle.... let me tell you! After being a LOT more intentional about where I shop, what I shop for, and the make-up I wear/how to correctly apply make up, I'm not breaking the bank. My dress that I'm wearing today was $10, my lipgloss is $7, the eyeshadow palatte was $9. But thanks to Ana, I look expensive, put together and like I had $200 that I spent on my dress and make-up. I feel really beautiful because my outer appearance is exemplifying the beauty I already had

Most of my clothes are from thrift shops, $10 or less on well-made items - old brands people have forgotten and old pieces when they were made well, from brands people do know. Finding the right piece takes time. I work from a list of needs and don't have expectations when i hit the shops. If it's there, it's there, if it's not, it's not...wait for another day. A few from Ross, some well-made from Walmart i bought almost 10 years ago, still in like-new shape. The most I paid was a well-made business suit for work i bought in 2009 that I still wear today, also in like-new condition. Take of the clothes and they will take care of you.

I do think there is nothing wrong to stick on your comfortable clothes around the house but that's it - around the house and I do agree once you slop around the house you kind of remain in that state and all you want is to chill mostly all day. Once you step outside it's different.

The idea that looking expensive or dressing well is a sign of being "fake rich" can be a subjective and somewhat judgmental perspective. People have various reasons for dressing well or investing in their appearance, and it doesn't necessarily indicate insincerity or a lack of authenticity. Here are a few reasons why someone might choose to look expensive or improve their sense of style: Self-Confidence: Dressing well and feeling put together can boost one's self-esteem and self-confidence. When you feel good about yourself, it can positively impact your overall well-being and interactions with others. Professionalism: In some industries and professions, a polished appearance is essential. Dressing professionally can help individuals advance in their careers and make a positive impression on clients, colleagues, or employers. Personal Expression: Fashion and style are forms of self-expression. Some people genuinely enjoy experimenting with clothing and using it as a way to express their creativity and individuality. Cultural or Social Norms: In certain social or cultural contexts, dressing well is a sign of respect or adherence to traditions. It may be expected or required for formal events, religious ceremonies, or family gatherings. Mood Enhancement: As you mentioned, dressing better can elevate your mood. Putting effort into your appearance can be a form of self-care and a way to feel good about yourself. Boosting Motivation: Some people, myself included find that dressing well helps them stay motivated and productive. It can create a sense of purpose and discipline in their daily routines. While there's nothing inherently wrong with wanting to look expensive or improve your sense of style, it's important to do so in a way that aligns with your values and financial means. You don't have to spend a lot of money to achieve a stylish look; it's possible to find affordable clothing that suits your taste and budget. Ultimately, judgments about whether someone is "fake rich" based on their appearance can be unfair and unhelpful. People's financial situations and motivations for dressing a certain way are often more complex than they appear, and it's best to avoid making assumptions about others based solely on their outward appearance. Instead, they should focus on your own goals for personal style and self-expression and respect others' choices to do the same.

I often get criticized with "just pick anything, it doesnt matter". But it does matter, I want the right color, the right shape, a good fabric. And specially because I dont have much money to buy clothes, oll buy pieces that are worthy, not just anything

I've been following your channel for a while now, and it's been a real eye-opener for me. Your content has been super helpful, especially when it comes to raising my standards, navigating the world of dating among the affluent, and mingling with wealthy people over the past 5ish years. I must say though- I thought that once I made my way into the upper class that everything would be great, but in reality the most difficult part of my journey has been finding people who can truly unwind, let loose, enjoy themselves, and not take everything too seriously. I totally get the importance of keeping up a polished image, but sometimes it feels like the majority of people I meet are pretty tame and boring. The men I typically date tend to be the most easygoing and relaxed ones within their social circles, and yet they're still rather conservative for being the fun one in the group. I often go to hot spots that seem like a blast on paper, but in reality, most really wealthy individuals, especially those from old-money backgrounds, tend to be a little, well, dull. I get it that people don't want to take a chance saying something that might rub someone the wrong way or share their unfiltered thoughts, especially when they know not everyone will see eye-to-eye. But, in my view, that's just a natural part of what a fulfilling social experience among friends entails. I'd like to think that I just haven't crossed paths with the right crowd yet, but I've lived in bustling cities like NYC, Paris, Geneva, and traveled extensively worldwide, mingling with high-society types, and the pattern seems to persist. While I'm all for keeping it classy in social settings, it seems like a lot of people let it get in the way of having a good time. Not just that, but I sincerely believe that many people who were raised within these social circles haven't even had the opportunity to fully embrace the concept of simply letting loose, enjoying an unfiltered, laughter-filled good time.

Rich people dress however they want, they’re not thinking about what people who aren’t their direct peers are thinking. I am an advocate of everyone doing the same. Just show up with the correct attire when it matters, and to Anna’s point, wear what is going to make you feel confident and powerful going about your day.
