How long can I last fasting? I'm aiming for 48 hour fasting or more. Will I quit or go for longer?

I weighed myself yesterday and I’ve gained 6 lbs. I don’t weigh myself often, as I’m only interested in how I feel, and not focusing on the score on the scales. However, I’ve been feeling a little bit tired and bloated over the past two weeks, so I thought I’d take a moment to analyse what has changed.
Well, it didn’t take long to figure it out. Firstly, I had previously reduced my alcohol intake to 1 drink on 1 day per week, but this had increased to 3 days per week. Only one drink, like a glass of sangria, but of course it’s affecting my body with weight gain and also changes to my mood and digestive system. Secondly, I’d been eating more bread than usual. We found an amazing bakery in Vila Real de Santo António, selling freshly baked sour dough bread. I’d tricked myself into thinking one slice wouldn’t hurt, but the slices are huge! The equivalent of two slices of standard bread. Let’s not talk about the French bakery… Needless to say, I am staying away from their bread too.
I woke up yesterday and decided I would try a 24 hour fast. My husband said he’d like to try it too. He managed 22 hours before he needed a coffee this morning with a small amount of milk. Technically he has broken his fast, even though he hasn’t eaten any food. This is a big achievement for him as he’s quite a snacker with a very sweet tooth.
This morning, feeling good, I decided I would go for 48 hours of fasting. Only black tea, coffee and water until 2pm tomorrow afternoon. I’m doing this to get back on track with my fasting, and to get my body into autophagy mode. This is when the body goes into repair mode. I’ve read lots of research about water fasting, and I’m interested to see what happens to me mentally as well as physically.
It’s important that I have enough energy to exercise, so stay tuned for updates!
Have you tried an extended fast? How did you feel?

I have been fasting (intermittent and also longer 48 hr fasts) for 6 years. By saying it is bad for the heart, I can only infer that you mean during long fasts the blood slows, and therefore viscosity increases. Yes, this happens. But if you do the occasional long fast and move your body a little during the fast (walking for example) it is not bad. It is much worse sitting all day, then laying on a couch all night not moving and stuffing your face with ice cream and potato chips. Research peer reviewed articles on 'fasting' and I am sure you will find a plethora of articles demonstrating it is good for the heart, longevity and so forth.
