Age 55 - let’s talk about menopause. What are men saying and who knows best?
I have both men and women cheering me on, on several platforms and following along on my page with all my varied content. Today I want to share you a video I made in a new format about menopause. I think it's important that there's more education about the menopause for women and men.
Women are always looking for ways to cope with the changes associated with menopause. A lot of companies and trainers take advantage of their desperation. I lost 31lbs through intermittent fasting, I then got back in shape through jumprope and kettlebells exercises. Follow me for more tips and advice, showing how I got back in shape and found myself again in midlife.
The takeaway from this, is that male fitness influencers and trainers talk about working out and eating right, but menopause is a psychological shift too. Firstly women lose their ability to have children, which in one way is a blessing, but in another way there can be a great sense of loss. The loss of hormones can completely change your personality, and of course your body, which changes (what seems like) overnight.
James Smith (in the video) recognises that women have lost essential hormones and says that it may be a good idea to consider hormone replacement therapy. I totally agree. Some women sail through menopause, barely noticing any changes, others suffer with countless side effects of losing Estrogen and Progesterone.
This is the first time I've tried this style of video. I film everything on my iPhone and edit is using an app. I'm learning new techniques all the time. I think it's important that there are 50+ women (like me) sharing their stories and experience, as we do appear to become invisible once we hit 50.
I am going to make more videos about a range of subjects, mainly related to health, nutrition and fitness. Let me know in the comments what you think about this style. I want to keep this platform varied and interesting.

I am almost 49, and my last cycle had me losing an insane amount of blood. Chose a male gyno for help (small town, not a lot of options) and boy do I absolutely regret it. I think he thinks he's funny, but really it felt like talking to my first husband who couldn't seem to read the room. I felt like absolute garbage physically and mentally, and was offered no sympathy or empathy. He literally whipped out a diagram to explain what was going on, like he was teaching a class of 12-year-old boys about periods. I find women gynos to be FAR more empathetic and understanding because they can relate. I mean, I don't think a man should go to a woman for erectile dysfunction any more than a woman should go see a man about perimenopause. Rant over. 😂

I couldn't agree more. It's crazy when you think about how men dominate the women's health arena. It makes no sense! I had my babies with midwives and it made so much sense to be cared for by women.
Fiftysister, I went through Menopause very early, 42, took hormone replacement, Dr said OK to take as long as you need to go to work but it "could" cause breast cancer. Well 18 years after taking hat and thriving on it, looking much younger than my age, I got the very rare and extremely aggressive inflamatory breast cancer. Now I have aged 15 years in a couple of years. Overies removed, womb removed, breast removed, extreme chemo and radiation. Very thin hair, wrinkles, weakness, Depression are what I deal with now. Sisters, be careful with hrt ❤

This is so sad ❤😢, because Menopause is no illness. It needs no cure. It takes 2x7 years and starts with 42, is over at 56. With a healthy Lifestyle it is possible to live through this without any help then your own mind. There is a lot of money involved in Menopause. Men should shut up about this topic and mind there own problems.

This is yet another medical scam that is sold to women- to stay on HRT for the rest of their lives, keep on buying the meds, keep on taking it. Not only does it cause cancer, it causes DVT and its not a rare side effect! Both my mother in law and my co-worker both on HRT BOTH developed DVT within 5-7 years of taking it. Its dangerous. Do not take it! There are other ways to combat depression and weight gain. HRT is not a miracle drug. Its yet another med to take for the rest of your life and make millions for Pharma.

@@fatamorgana7110 Of course It is natural. Of course it does not need a cure. But how are you going to make trillions from 50 % of the world population unless you tell them there is miracle drug you must take for the rest of your lives - which is 30-35 years easy. Most women do not research the meds, they just fill the scripts. Cancers, autoimmune disorders, deep vein thrombosis are not rare side effects.

@@fatamorgana7110 👏👏👏 Yes! It is not a “problem” to fix!
Lets talk about menopause! Its a natural process and 50% of world population is going through those changes. Women have gone through it for thousands of years. There are issues which could be dealt with without HRT ( which is a very dangerous drug and whoever is prescribed must do thorough due diligence). HRT are linked ( undisputedly) with cancer, deep vein thrombosis and autoimmune diseases in women. Depression could be dealt with natural serotonin boosters or in severe case low doses of antidepressants who are way less dangerous then HRT. Changing diets and exercise regimes are imperative for women in menopause, but most of us don’t want to make any changes and rather take a pill. HRT is not a miracle drug. Its dangerous and it should not be prescribed for long term use. But then again how is Pharma going to secure consistent income streams from half of world’s population for the next 30 years.

Are you a doctor?
No hrt 55 menopausal and I’m losing body fat finally and reversing insulin resistance and no more hot flashes depression/ extreme fatigue and anxiety anymore since I started Omad one meal a day / Fasting ! Do not allow anyone to make you afraid of fasting !
I really wanted to try HRT, but I have a history of blood clots, so I was denied. I’m really struggling but have now changed my diet and have started exercising, so I’m hoping to get a handle on my weight gain-I’m 55 and weigh about 30 pounds more than I did 5 years ago. The mental side is tough, too. I’m hoping my lifestyle changes will help both the physical and mental issues. It’s only been 3 weeks, and I’m dedicated to it, so I’m praying my situation improves.
I was lucky to go through menopause at 44. It was nothing (bad) that I expected. It changed me for the better. I did go through the frumpy stage, but overcame that by giving up junk food and walking 2 miles per day. I used to have terrible mood swings and depression. My pms turned to pmdd in my mid 30’s, and beyond. All of that has been gone, for almost 15 years. Absolutely no hrt for me - some of us are better w/o those hormones. My dog doesn’t smell my crotch anymore, but neither do I 😉 - I can’t complain.

When the vagina smells, it's a sign of bacterial overgrowth. A healthy vagina has no smell at all
My doctor, who still sits behind a pane of glass (open on three sides🥴🤭), also prescribed me hormones. I never took them. My trust in doctors has plummeted since the plandemic anyway. I'd rather listen to your refreshingly presented tips and my own gut feeling. Thank you!
Well said and yes it drives me bonkers when men think they understand a woman’s body.
Some cultures call it “Second Spring” and I like that term much better
Menopause doesn't always mean weight gain.
Personally at menopause, I cannot fast. If I do my adrenals go crazy, I get a migraine and it feels as if my body is in shock. It really messes with my mental health. I do the glucose goddess diet with small amounts of food throughout the day and I can't eat bread, pasta, sugar, anything that makes my blood sugar crash afterwards. I don't take HRT. With this diet my weight is getting in control and I am able to do exercise like pilates which doesn't involve cardio. Cardio does the same thing to me as fasting. I honestly think we are all so different. But I do wish I could do cardio and fasting, hopefully one day I'll be able to.
It should be called : Men on Pause !

It was all mental for me. Praise God for HRT patches.
This is an excellent video. Thanks so much. You are just spot on!!
Wow, seeing all the video clips of MEN talking about menopause was funny and a little sad really. Maybe we should start calling it "Mental-pause" and keep the men out of it!! haha. Let all us women take a mental pause and start to focus on ourselves. Menopause was really hard for me in the mental aspect of it (because of how people and the media make us out to be "crazy" and the hot flashes. I got them EVERY HOUR ON THE HOUR for 6 years yes - "toughing it out" till I was at the point of not recognizing myself, moody because I hadn't had a proper nights sleep in nearly 6 years and these hot flashes while persistently on time - did me another favor of being extremely strong to the point of causing me to feel dizzy and nauseous.Sadly, my women-friends almost were worse then anything - in their lack of compassion during it. I fought any kind of "medical" intervention and tried anything else known to "man"kind, then out of desperation finally went on HRT - it's changed my life. While it does or can cause weight gain (as in my case), like you said every year more and more pounds creep on, but the relief in all other aspects are night and day. Now that that is under control (for the most part), I can turn to getting my life back, losing this weight and enjoying life. I'm so glad I found you. I LOVE your attitude and positive energy. You've even got me thinking of buying a jumprope. Any advice for a good "non-bouncing" sports bra? Since the "girls" have gotten bigger, they're a bit out of control, haha. Thanks for your smiles, love your hair color and that you make video with and without makeup! You look great.

Perimenopause for 8yrs before having a complete hysterectomy, and a cantaloupe size tumor removed. I had Zero Hormones on a blood panel some year's after. I was miserable! I've now been on Bioidenticle Hormones replacement therapy for 5yrs ~Complete Game Changer!! Feel Amazing❤
I was blindsided when perimenopausal. My OB/GYN so casually told me I should have a hysterectomy due to heavy periods. I declined. Then, I started having horrible hot flashes and anxiety. I finally went on "hormone therapy" as it is now being called. What a relief. My own mother, who is 88, said she never felt any symptoms. Wasn't she lucky? Thank you! Menopause needs to be more openly discussed!
Greetings from Denmark! Thank you so much for your videos/sharing on social media! Love it - it is so inspiring!! ♥ I want to ask you, if you get your energi as well as your motivation to change your lifestyle, AFTER you start on HRT?

I hit menopause and long covid on the exact same day. It has been a struggle in the medical system to find answers. Many of my symptoms overlap and there are secondary concerns. Long term concerns. When I ask questions regarding HRT and the state of my health it is dismissed. I feel there are no answers and the decision to take HRT might help me or it may make things worse. For me, its left me very confused and worried as I don't want to become more ill. Frustrated that womens health has never been priority in medical studies and here we are on youtube trying finding answers from other women!
Intermittent fasting and some natural laxatives twice a week helped me.
I'm 51. No periods for one year on mother's day....May 14th 2024. It almost killed me.
For me personally, I have zero interest in a male's video on menopause such as the ones you shared, especially if they appear to be around 30 years old. I'm no expert on the prostate, I'm not sure what they know about my ovaries unless if it is my gynecologist. I was my absolute fittest during my early 50's, then my mother got ill, I got busy being with her and later caring for her as she was preparing to cross over - it was emotionally and physically exhausting and I stopped caring for myself. My mom passed away when I was 55 (I'm now 62), and menopause was in full swing. I can say I got off easy, I cried for about 2 1/2 years every single day (I'm not sure if it was the grief or menopause) and it was done, Then COVID hit and I was working from home. I easily gained over that let's say 4 year period 30 pounds, I became lethargic and full of fear. It took a big move to the country side about a year ago and I am just starting to really care for myself and your videos are really charged me up. I have lost about 20 pounds over the last few years just by eating healthier and some exercise, I have about 12-15 to go but mainly to build my muscle mass back and gain my confidence overall. So thank you for really setting the bar. It's not easy, but it is so worth it. I really want to stress that younger women educate themselves as early as possible and thus live healthy and active lives as early as possible, it has to be a regular habit. I was never overweight and I was totally blind sided by the weight gain and difficulty in getting it off. and the change in the shape of my body that I am still grieving. So please keep up these amazing videos, you are very relatable, and I look forward to checking out your book. If you can, could you do a video on sticking with the plan. You do appear to have led a fit life before the weight came on, how do you stick to our program? Again thank you💖 🏃♀
There’s a wonderful Dr Haver who gives advice and has written a book. Look at The Galveston diet, she’s amazing. Oh and even those who couldn’t take HRT previously are now able to just read her book you can ask her questions it will help. Even if you don’t have symptoms it’s still affecting your heart, brain and physiology detrimentally.
Please check out all the work that Davina McCall has done on menopause. Especially if you're seeking a female viewpoint on it ❤
I will begin taking Tamoxifen shortly to shut down my estrogen to prevent my cancer reoccurrence. Is it possible to experience the same results with your healthcare wellness and exercise routines without HRT? Or is it just all going to turn into a flaming Viking boat out to sea for me. 😢 because that’s what I think.
Are u still on HRT Gail , now that youre on a plant based diet ?
You’re so beautiful!!!😍
Ugh I’m dreading it :( I just turned 40 not sure when that happens, I’m still looking for a family doctor.

Well, at least you're getting some information PRIOR to it. And maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones who don't have it too bad. I wish I'd known a lot more before perimenopause (which I experienced, not knowing what it was). I can not recommend you enough to listen to the ladies advice (there's a number of them out there) when it comes to a healthy diet and exercize (strength training is important). I had to take HRT in 2019 because I was going through hell at different levels and my symptoms got really bad, but I'm progressively coming off of it because of the cancer risk + it's made me put on even more weight and I can't go on like this. But it's not easy, and I hope the new diet and exercize will help (already lost about 9 pounds). I wish you all the best, and do take care of yourself!

I’m just interested as I had a hysterectomy 6 years ago when I was just 36 due to adenomyosis & I’ve just started taking oestrogen now (still have ovaries) im perimenopausal.dr also said I don’t need progesterone as I have no uterus but apparently this is a good thing?!

Thank you! Yeah, no. Don't take MEDICAL advice from a personal trainer. Perimenopause and menopause are complex processes and very individual. DO educate yourselves, ladies, with RELIABLE sources.
I'm almost 50 and male and I'm fascinated how some women seem to have a higher sex drive after menopause. There are women in their late 50's/early 60's who are absolute nymphomaniacs...I can't keep up with them they need younger guys
