How Critical Drinker Nuked Marvel & Did What Thanos Couldn't

Ойын-сауық

Disney Marvel has been attacked online over the last 2 years for their terrible movies, with one of the major critics being The Critical Drinker who hasn't hesitated to call out Disney for their horrible movies. But in this final video essay on The Critical Drinker I wanted to break down how he has in a way helped save blockbuster cinema and even though he utterly nuked Marvel they seem to now be listening and are implementing what many fans have been asking for and hopefully this means the MCU and Disney as a whole will improve moving forward.

    Disney is stuck in *throw (more and more) money at it* mode. Buy a studio to get the IPs it holds (for a HUGE sum), order more content based on the IPs to be made (ignoring what made the IP valuable) and set a very high budget for that, make deals (e.g. with McD and Hasbro) to promote - and merchandise the hell out of - the movie(s). And finally, imitate something (butterbeer!) that works for the competition... again ignoring what made that idea work (worst of all; fail to make it good - organoleptically¹.) ¹ look, taste, mouth feel, aftertaste, scent, temperature ... all the things your sense *organs* ... well, sense.

You do realize that when they make remakes of classics m, they are counting on the fans who have grown up to bring their children to see their new crap right? So maybe insulting the childhood of people you want to pay is a dumb strategy. Maybe you should apply to work at Disney because you took the same approach because arrogant people like you feel entitled to the new generation watching this crap. Precisely - Disney/Marvel and the rest of their fellow travellers in Hollywood do not see us as customers, nor even as consumers - to them we are simply pay pigs. They think they are entitled to our money and perceive themselves as Olympians deigning to waste their time on sub-humans who should by rights be worshipping them and fighting one another for the chance to kiss their boots. They will at best make a few hearted mea culpas and lie about how they mean to change, but they are assuming that all this will blow over and it will be back to business as usual in a few months at most. They might try to sneak their politics in through the back door a bit more, stay under the radar for a while, but the basic attitude that they are superior and we should know our place as modern day serfs has not changed. They will be back to their old tricks, probably sooner rather than later. Disney and co. probably have entire research teams feverishly working even now to try to find something, anything, with which to discredit people like the Critical Drinker and Nerdrotic, and if they can't find it they are more than capable of manufacturing it.

The issue now vs. before is the movies themselves are reflecting Hollywood's politics. Stephen King adaption, no politics.

    @Towkeeyoh

    2 ай бұрын

    The real problem really isn’t about the energy bolts shooting out from people’s hands, all of video games and anime still have fans of characters doing that. But the problem is when it’s over used, it’s cheapened, not having a good reason and story incentive for the energy bolts so there’s no weight behind its meaning. How the character even got the power and mechanics behind it, also adds to an immersive world building, without that it would feel super generic. Finally, the cgi, editing and sound design would add to its impact, the artists now are so overworked, the quality compared to even Ironman 1, pales in comparison and thus feeling very empty and without impact. If these basic things aren’t fulfilled, any ability or action from the characters will feel just as annoying as those energy bolts and an absolute chore to watch. TLDR, I kinda see where you’re coming from and am on your side, but I’m just so sad about everything I’ve just listed.

    The drinker has been at the forefront of a big shift in who we listen to before we choose to invest our time and money in a movie. He certainly deserves his success and I hope the current trajectory of him becoming a bigger voice than the studio shills that we have had to put up with continues. Also good to see a video celebrating his work instead of trying to get views and subs by opposing him.

    I think there should be a requirement for any writer, producer and director to read the comic of whatever movie they are producing. Knowing that a majority of them do not shows and I feel they are using characters as a platform to spread their political messages instead of showing who that character really is in the comics.

Also, it's why I am subscribed to you and why I watch these channels in general because as someone who does film as a subject in school it is something that I hope to continue doing in future and I want to entertain audiences. I’m glad that The Critical Drinker and other critics are around because they have highlighted that these movies are insulting our intelligence with poor quality storytelling. Godzilla Minus One has definitely set the standard for a great movie. Hollywood should definitely take note.

    I watched one of his podcast clips about a week ago and one of them made a really good point. They said that Disney was trying to target an audience that just doesn’t exist. For so long, marvel was trying to make these all female superhero movies but men & women are very different. Boys have always loved superhero movies, video games and comic books. Girls have always been into more feminine things and are more likely into different genres like reality shows, drama, certain horrors and shows like Euphoria. Growing up, I always tried to get my nieces into superhero movies but were never really interested and always referred to more drama related shows like euphoria. It’s not to say that they don’t like superhero movies completely, some of em do like certain ones out there and same goes for women in general but like you always been saying for years now, story matters the most. It’s time for marvel to remember who has always been their hardcore fans since the very beginning.

    And the girls/women who like super hero movies like the same types of movies as the men. My daughter is utterly disgusted about what has happened to the MCU. She grew up watching super hero movies with me (she is 26 and I am 60) From the second or third MCU on, we have seen every MCU movie in the theaters within the first week until The Marvels. She won't even bother watching MCU series after She Hulk (I at least give them a try). She is there "target" audience based on demographics, and boy did they miss the target. Same with Dr. Who (which she and her sister came to watch on their own and I was a late adopter of the new Dr. Who - I watched the earlier Dr. from Baker through Davison completely and dipped back in from time to time through McCoy). She stopped consistently watching Dr. Who when the Impossible Girl become such a ridiculous plot device (never even made it to the girl boss Dr. Who).

    Drinker jumped all over these bad movies right after Endgame, but other shill channels like screencrush continued to praise and defend these movies (even doing their own fan blaming) through all of phase 4, but over the last 4-5 months even those channels are admitting how terrible the releases are, and basically pretending they weren’t worshipping at Marvels feet the entire phase 4. Glad to have actual voices of the fan- calling out the movies that might have nice liberal messages but terrible scripts and CGI. We don’t care if they throw some political messages in the movies, but the actual movies need to be good. That’s the issue.

The normative majority of the audience don't want The Message in the movie, the traditional audience, this is the normative majority, only want good entertainment. And the traditional audience don't trust Disney anymore. With ore without the yt content creators. There are polls describing this fact. Excuse my bad English language pls. If Hollywood, Disney, and these horrible celebs just take a look at 2022s TOP GUN Maverick then they will still continue to make great/good movies. Heck the best kids movies of the 2020s is DreamWorks Puss In Boots The Last Wish and the Super Mario Bros Movie. My parents and I really liked those movies. But unfortunately they still did not listen and with this year's Oscars being the fourth worst ever we will never know if they will ever continue to make good movies again.

Boycot them into the dust so that they are forced to sell their intellectual properties to other studios who will see the power of the fans and live every waking moment in perpetual fear of deviating from the source materials so that they can force messaging on us. The collapse of disney needs to be so final and complete that no company will dare to be like them ever again.

    So, it was raining, and my plans went amiss, bored, I watched The Marvels. They had three pretty good characters and a Macro story, but seemed timid introducing Micro stories. I thought the Ms. Marvel character could have been a bit more mature, as a little blurb indicated she had accomplished the feat of saving a city. I wanted to know more about Cap. Rambo, she was interesting, but all I got was a flashback and a blurb about hurt feelings. Well, OK, how about Cap Marvel herself? Surely...a blurb about guilt, a flashback, something about marrying to save a world, but bones, no meat. They are trying so hard to create a "strong woman" and all we get is a soupcan...no soup. You can't have a micro story if you restrict your characters.
