I think it's functionally impossible. They can't write good stories because they don't start with the story, they start with a DEI list of requirements and then someone tries to fit all of those things into a story. They need to change priorities or it's hopeless.

I didn't watch the Cpt Marvel films because the leading lady said "I'm not making these films for men." I couldn't tell you if they sucked or not because I voted with my dollars and watched something the creators wanted me to watch. I'm not spending a dollar on a film that isn't made to interest me at all. Disney needs to realize that while films are art, they're also producing a product for sale (to recover the cost of producing it and turn a profit) that someone has to want to buy into. I'm not going to buy a ticket for a film that I've been made to feel that I'm unwelcome to watch. I should point out that I don't care if the Protagonist is a woman, but the "Girls get it done!" (I'm pretty sure they were mocking the scene in "The Boys" during the filming of "Dawn of the Seven".) moment in Endgame really showed the MCU was going to fail. The woke movement chafes at "male domination" in the films and then do the same thing with women rather than showing strong male and female characters working together like the comics used to show when I was a kid (several decades ago). Inverting the effect of a problem doesn't fix the problem. It only changes who gets hurt.

I'm not that bothered anymore I've just stopped paying their subscriptions and stopped going to the cinema to watch the films that they produce

Then there's all the reshoots for the recent movies (still flops) that apparently diluted the most overt politics and IP sabotage. @@TaskMaster5 Antman 3 was garbage for sure, but family wasn't the issue there. Poor writing, plain and simple. Antman started out as a joke, so him being a clown in part 3, was nothing new. Hawkeye family was explored fine. He was married, taught his daughter how to shoot arrows, his wife played her role and supported his avenging, he went on a killing spree because he lost hope, when they snapped away. what more you want from that story?! Hawkeye show wasn't great by any means, but certainly not the worst. Kate Bishop was at least likeable, and it made sense as to why she looked up to Clint, unlike Ms. Marvel being a fan girl of Captain Marvel, it makes 0 sense in the MCU. She was on earth for like 5 minutes.

The problem with fixing characters like Echo, She Hulk and similar characters is that it is hard to do. Since their first shows were terrible, they need to be actually great to get redemption with the fans. A new character will start from a better position and anything above mediocre is enough to get to the same place. I don't think Marvel have any great people left and in that case, it is better to just bring in someone else from the source material. Complaining that Nerdrotic points out that Iger have been saying the same thing for a long while now without actually doing much besides moving some projects back is not a great idea, it only makes them look like they are not doing what they are saying and get mad whenever someone points that out. They are also risking another Streisand effect so it would have been better to not say anything at all.

I guess that includes Asian we were told we are white adjacent thank you marvel the less money to spend.

That's because Charlie's Angels & Wonder Woman weren't sexist mary sue tropes. Well WW84 was, god they did Diana dirty in that movie, she literally SA a guy ffs! The Angels got beat up, blown up, & they we're constantly fumbling their relationships, which made them human. Xena whole show was her redemption arc. They establish her as a hardcore psychotic villain in Hercules to where she actually has to face someone just like her that her actions created in that first season. That's how you write good female characters.

The MCU's failures, after Endgame, is squarely due to Kevin Feige's incompetence and mismanagement. HE is the one who is in charge of Marvel Studios, HE is the one who was in charge of keeping focus, HE is responsible for overall quality control, HE is responsible for stopping showrunners/directors from ignoring the "overall universe plan" while doing their own thing for each installment and HE was the one in charge of continuity between films. It's also partly Iger and the Disney board's fault for not correcting Feige when the MCU started to fail massively under-performing in Phase 4 (same with not stopping Kathleen Kennedy ruining Star Wars and Lucasfilm).

You have it backwards. It's Eiger and the Disney board that *ORDERED* Feige to do this. He was faced with the choice to comply or leave his job earning millions of dollars per year. Some of it is coming from "Charlee Corra, a member of the Disney family, came out publicly as transgender" in 2022.

There's rich CEO's who hired people who have no idea what to do with the vast Marvel toybox given to them. All they had to do was make good movies for fans and their ego's prevent them from doing that and making a profit. There's a rich history of Marvel comics and these "producers" decide to take stories and characters from the lowest selling books. Comics sales have been down for decades and it's not just because of video games. Reprints and back issues sell fine. Good luck with the female Silver Surfer. I know I won't be attending that party.

In regards to quality, we'll believe it when we see it. Even then, we still have to be suspicious of how long sensible decisions last.

As someone who read Marvel books my entire childhood, it was a pleasure watching the first Iron Man during my senior skip day, then having the best cinematic experiences watching Infinity War and EndGame. We were spoiled with good content that decade. That's why I'm not so upset that Disney dropped the ball and might not recover

I think if they just wrote good stories WITHOUT being afraid of the backlash from the vocal minority, grossly made up of non fans just looking for attention and "paper thin power", and wrote to the real fans requests, Marvel could live again.

Saying "Marvel isn't for men" is like saying "Barbie isn't for girls"... It makes no sense.

I feel like Marvel has forgotten what made movies like Black Panther so successful. It's perfectly possible to have a diverse cast, lovable protagonists, compelling antagonists, and a coherent plot if enough time- and, more importantly, care- is put into a movie.

And not just a single strong black male but the entire cast of amazing black actors. Now.. imagine if Black Panther had gotten the DEI treatment and had asians, hispanics, several lgbtq characters limiting black characters to at most 25% of the cast and the writing team and the production staff were required to follow DEI hiring practices instead of hiring the most qualified people available. We would have missed a masterpiece.

It all comes down to attitude. As a former programmer, I realised that I made mistakes and I wrote some real honkers. What did I do? Blame the users? Blame the operators? NO, I took the code, rewrote it so that it did what it was supposed to do and THEN I dealt with the fallout. That's all that Disney needs to do, and I don't mean reshoot every damn thing. The idea needs to be analysed, the script needs to be evaluated and the production needs to be planned properly. None of this working from a notebook, a reduction of poorly shot green screens and, primarily, good stories that people want to see rather than endless rounds of identity preaching.

Quantity IS NOT their problem. Their lack of creative ability is. Plain and simple. Constant reshoots because they don't know what they are doing when it comes to making a compelling, competent movie or tv show is why they have problems. If they knew how to make quality from the start, their quantity would be fine. This is what happens when you only hire activists.

I'm latina, female, and marvel isn't for me either. Who is their target??? Invisible people, apparently. I'm only watching X-men 97' because it was a pleasant surprise, you can tell it was made by true fans of the comics: the respect they show for characters (shapes and backgrounds), the twists they chose from the comics, etc. As a fan of the comics and characters that's what you expect, not creative thieves appropriating them to use their facade to fill them with souls that are not theirs. "Female empowerment" is crap if you use it only to piss off "the patriarchy". Stories need empathy and souls, they are not empty pamphlets or propaganda to "attack" your supposed "enemies".

X-men '97 was indeed a pleasant surprise. It's a shame when you're watching one of this company's products, at this point, and think: "Oh my God, this is actually good! How did that happen?"

1- Stop hiring activists and start hiring writers, directors, and actors who appreciate the source material and the fans of said material. 2- Stop hiring anyone based on their race, gender, or sexual orientation then see #1.

Jesse, you did a good job describing the situation. My theory is that Disney has already had their corporate purge. There may be a handful of reality-based hold-outs left, but they are not large enough to make an impact. The bi-polar messaging from Disney's propaganda department has more to do with them not wanting to take ownership of their mistakes. Claiming the problem has to do with 'quantity over quality,' while simultaneously refusing to change what they are doing to delete 'agenda-driven' messaging in story and production, indicates they are trying to claim 'we have changed' while not changing the substance of what they are doing at all. In short, the media promotion claiming fans are toxic is what the current Disney employees feel; the articles claiming they are going to decrease output to increase quality is just PR to try and save face. They will reduce output. They have no choice financially. But they will not change the political narratives driving their content. Less political content does not mean 'better' political content. And the audience already knows this...

Traditionally in TVs and Movies , popular supporting characters would get a spin off. Take Frasier for example. He was a popular character in Cheers, and eventually got his own show. On the other hand, take marvel. Oh yeah Echo was in Hawkeye, and she's a bad ass deaf chick. Let's just green light her because she's a woman. This could be a whole video btw.

Ok. Bye Disney. Hope your new intended audience will actually put their money into your coffers in place of all the fans you lost.

Disney Marvel honestly thought that they could do no wrong. Sadly it appears that all they can do is wrong, and it's not just the Marvel arm of Disney, Star Wars, Pixar, Disney Animated, Disney Live Action. So many of their last releases have failed to make a profit

They have to fire the people that are bigoted against men. Everything they make is filled with rage and contempt. It's creepy.

It's all down to one word: compromise. Most reasonable people are prepared to compromise. But the social justice warriors are not prepared to compromise because they, self righteously, believe they are so right that anyone who disagrees with them on any point is not just wrong, but evil. So I'm sure there are people within Disney who just want to tell good stories, but they are being hamstrung by people who want to prioritise social justice activism over stories. When you produce a 3rd rate film with a very diverse cast and your claim is that, 'this film is literally saving lives', then you've completely lost the plot and and revealing yourself as both arrogant and narcissistic.

Guardians 3 barely broke even. It wasn’t a big hit at $845 million. Only Barbie, Mario Bros broke $1 Billion. Oppenheimer beat Guardians by $100 million and the return was much higher because the budget is much less.

People who obsess about superficial race and gender can't make great content with depth, the two objectives are antithetical to eachother.

The biggest mistake by Disney/Marvel it's believing that they created an unconditional audience, the vast majority are people that only goes for the entertain value, they are not interested in getting deep into the mythos or knew everything about it, the references and so on. They were blinded by the success and not realizing that Endgame was a break point and whatever was coming after that will not maintain the momentum that they think they reach, Endgame was the last nail on the coffin, they didn't know and I believe they still haven't realized it. They needed to take a break and reorganize.

After endgame, they should have returned to making lower budget movies and taken 5 years to build up the new cast of characters. And they shouldn't have talked about genderbending the male characters and the "New Phase is Female" crap. They wanted to start on third base with the new films when they were really started a new game and had to start all over again.
