What’s the worst is many of Trump supporters don’t believe COVID exists.. I have talked to a few of them and they seriously think that liberals are using COVID as ploy against trump... Those are the people not social distancing or wearing masks bc it’s not real to them. -_- it’s truly unbelievable. Im a pharmacy intern and when people come in the pharmacy without a mask it makes me so mad that they would risk other peoples lives who many of the people coming to the pharmacy have pre-existing conditions and are more susceptible to dying from COVID. So wrong.

The thing is the governments for the most part are unstable (feel free to correct me on this) and typically rank lower on the corruption index (more corruption). The difference in ethnicities within countries causes disagreements which make it even harder to navigate. It doesn’t form the basis of efficient and effective responses, especially those backed up with resources necessary. It is certainly surprising that these countries are leading in covid response, but it is explained by their previous experiences with Ebola, so it makes sense that they were able to put these differences aside, since it is not the first time.

South African here. We prepared ahead of time. Made field hospitals, did a lock down, social distanced, wore masks outside, listened to the scientists and WHO and tested and reported constantly. We have the antibody tests now and tests were covered by medical insurance eventually too. I am proud of my country and continent, but it's no surprise, when ppl are in need, we help. U don't want to be responsible for another's loss. We still have places with ppl that doesnt care, but the herd mentality is to be safe. It works, we got through winter with Covid19 and u can too. 👍

Sure you get your outliers (I dare say they may also be overseas Trump supporters, and spend a lot of money on tinfoil), but for the most part we a) don't like being locked down and would like it to end and b) value our elders and don't want to kill them.

I'm very happy for Africa. I'm remember when Ebola happened, how they shut the border like zombies were coming to get us. But I know it was more because of racism and disgust because it was coming from Africa. Just like they blame Africa for most of our disease. Its upsetting how the world work. The rest if the world is crazy. We followed instructions, we were led by a good president, thank you Cyril!

Big shade: "this is one time you can take something that came from Africa and claim as your own ". Ouch !

We are doing better because we listen to experts. We didn't need persuasion to wear masks outdoors. Aside my once a month trip to the market to stock up on food, I haven't been to any public place since January, I have a full grown afro which KZread videos have taught me how to groom and style, gyms are closed so I have been dancing and working out in my tiny apartment since January. I haven't seen my friends all year, which is fine because we zoom and whatsapp and keep in touch online. And we cope with humour. Our social media is always trending with one humorous scandal or another, which keeps us entertained and mentally stable. No matter how bleak it looks, we always find a reason to laugh & joke about it. So yeah, we are definitely doing better because we're valuing our lives and not taking unnecessary risks.

I’m also Canadian and currently I’m in Tanzania. Everyone was like, “Omg, you’re staying?!” But all this denial seems to be working. Life goes on as normal and I’m happy I stayed.

Because we're too privileged. We don't listen. They deal with outbreaks all the time and survive it.We argue over wearing mask and going out to eat.

This is true in my opinion. Im from south africa and here its mandatory to wear a mask in public. Nobody argues. In general most people take it seriously and our scientists and doctors are very good. We have some great experts who have advised the president well

I heard from a previous colleague working in Amsterdam that it will become a requirement now to wear masks......and we are like....was this not a requirement before......It is mandatory here in SA from first lockdown, and yes no one is arguing about it.....And we are a third world country 🙏💯🙌

@@cfnretro6448 Keep in mind the difference between families of viruses and each individual virus. For example Influenza A, B, C & D and Hepatitis A, B & C. The vaccine for Influenza A does not to my knowledge protect against Influenza B. Therefore, both of you are likely correct.

I am also offended. It is so typical of a deflect from a white racist. He cannot imagine anything positive being said about Africans. If it were true then why isn't he suggesting that they themselves ingest parasitic worms to prevent covid? Also Africans know that they will be the last to be considered for a cure when it is found so most have gone back to herbal therapeutics. The moment one sneezes or has a scratchy throat Africans are making herbal concoctions to steam the whole body, to ingest, herbal oils to use at night for circulation and to open up the airways.

they said that intestinal worms could protect against the more severe symptoms of Covid-19. And there is some logic to that that has nothing to do with race or being racist. Intestinal worms are known to supress the immune response of the host (so that they won't be attacked and expelled) and the more severe symptoms of covid-19 happen when the immune system is going into overdrive and starts attacking the body. It's called cytokine storm. The lack of parasitic infections in the industrial world has been linked to other illnesses/health problems, like allergies and auto-immune diseases in the past.

I have been wondering about that, too. Africa suffered a lot from and after colonialism but it is again becoming a trendsetter for humanity as it has been since the dawn of humanity. I walk around in the United States with open eyes and an open mind. The U.S. loses, Africa wins because Africa is emerging with all the growing pains this is coming with. As an African I noticed that South Africa (my country) produced about half the deaths of the entire continent. As long as we have that large gene pool available, humans can potentially adapt to a wider range of future environments and circumstances than if we only had the non-African continents' worth of diversity. And yesterday on the news I heard about Doctors without borders coming in to the states. I spoke with the my friend a charge nurse in Lawrence KS yesterday and I cried through the whole conversation while I listened to her stories....
