Whoever was the guy up on the machine gun, that was forced to use his pistol and successfully engaged a group of enemies and killed the RPG guy should of recieved a silver star as well holy cow.

Likely he got a Bronze Star with a V. Most SF guys did. The Silver Star requirements are a bit higher, but spec ops guys earned both awards almost on the daily.

He wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary. All SpecOp people are trained in this manner. Which is, if your primary weapon jams/fail. You employ your sidearm (pistol). Some guys like me, carry the standard 9mm issue, but I also have my secondary backup sidearm. Which is my own personal weapon, and it's a compact .45 caliber. It makes a big hole, and it will stop any jihadist dead on his track. All out of bullets, most guys will pull out their survival knife. Me, I have a Samurai sword. I have short arms, now I have the reach advantage. And last resort is hand to hand, it's labeled as combative now (rolling my eyes). Now, you start breaking bones, larynx, and necks with your bare ✋️ and kicking ass with your legs, Marshall Arts.

It’s funny because it’s true and completely the opposite at the same time. You lose time awareness in close combat because you have too many things happening at the same time, too many decisions to make, and too many concerns to notice the time passing. Time truly is relative. Our brains need something to compare our perception against. So each minute may last forever in our brains, but 18 hours pass like 1.

I think it's the opposite because you have to go into flow state to survive, it comes naturally since we are evolved to do it.

I had the privilege of talking with a WW1 vet who was at the Gallipoli landings on 25 April 1915. He spoke about being under fire for days at a time. He and his mates were national treasures.

Very interesting conversation, turns out he was in the same unit as one of my ancestors, he died at Lone Pine and as it turned out the old digger was with him when he got killed. What this old digger told me stayed with me through out my time in the infantry and still is in my mind. It was, to say the least, a rare privilege.

Having never served, I cannot say that I understand what my fellow Americans truly experienced. Offering a “thank you for your service” does not seem to be good enough. All I can say is that I am grateful our nation is represented in combat by such fine men.

@@alaskayoung3413 I remember being really pissed off when our soldiers in Iraq were patrolling in unarmored Humvees. You’d think civilian and military personnel would have understood that our boys would need far greater protection while going about their daily duties.

Very humble guy. No sugar coating, just tells it as it was on the ground. Respect!

Yep during this I was sitting in the belly of a carrier as an engine room operator, it's insane how the different armed forces experience different things. One of the best things the CO would do at the end of the week was the "Half Hour of Power" where they would broadcast all the week's airstrike footage on the ship's TV network for everyone to see, talk about warheads on foreheads!

This man is so good at telling his story. So detailed and in order, left nothing out and didn’t drag anything on. I enjoy these combat stories and listen to them often but this was top notch

The deployment of the same guys, concurrently/consecutively, without REAL-rest, while the enemy, has MASSES of 'fresh-bodies', is what drives Me crazy, and is WHY, I told My 'Master-Sergent' Brother-in-law, NOT to go back. He did. He never made it back. :( AND, it really, 'burns'-My-A**, how sooo-many of our 'choppers' are driven-down, and especially, with BOTH the Pilots DYING! WTF?! Moghadishu; Iraq; Libya; Too-Many-Times!! There's GOTTA be, a way, to better-design our 'sparrows', so's the enemy's hawks, can't get them so OPEN like they've been doing (Esp., when our guys are SO GOOD!)! Something's really WRONG!! :( Take Care. :)

Best documentary on a battle in Iraq I've seen. Sean Kirkwood did an excellent presentation of the horrible lengthy battle they were in. the Humvees were really torn up

You expressed your gratitude and admiration for Iraqi members. That speaks volumes about you. As a former Army and SF member your account is one of the most honest and relatable stories I have heard in awhile. Thank you for your service brother. My children often ask what it is like, I hope they never have to know. God bless and keep you.

@@hulk5801 Bruh. Really. Firefighters deal with extreme dangers as well as soldiers. There are many everyday People who deal with dangerous situations. They may never be under fire or be shot at but they have their own dangers to face and that should be respected.

This needs to be made into a movie. No words will ever be enough to thank you you for your service.

Vietnam just want to be a sovereign state without any having to owe China or the US to get them out. Vietnam didn’t have to bring in the Russians until MacAuther advanced tok far into the Chosin lakes. Destruction and Setewd were certain the us was able to get a lot more material than they had hood for. Grant won the entire war inVigina by never winning a single one. X

Most of the footage here isn’t from the actual battle. Hell, half of it isn’t even from Iraq. But sure. We need more Hollywood films to show us how cool it is to murder brown people and why it’s absolutely necessary. Reality is less entertaining and actually puts a negative spin on your beloved soldiers

a good friend of mine was shipped off fresh out of high-school..at the time I heard story was my foreman..his platoon suddenly came under fire while trying to take cover and return fire one of his recruits was hit by AK round to leg my buddy Drew grew giant size balls turned and ran back into fire by rpg grenades AK what ever else the enemy was firing at them picked his brother up turned and ran out of the line of fire..just goes to show you the bond these young heroes of ours have with one another..after hearing this I have never looked at hime the same.i would deff go back to back with him with no ? asked why because I know he is gonna fight and not leave a mf behind..true meaning of bortherhood..

When this man talks about training being what is most important I feel that deep down to my core. I remember in predeployment training I approached our 0-3 captain alongside my direct supervisor/team leader for our unit and said "let's do a simulation situation where our top leadership has been taken out or deemed useless." He looked at me with a straight face and said "ok let's do it, you are in command of the next exersize." I told him "no nit me puck someone who you think will take charge." He looked at me dead in the eye and said "You have already shown that you would take over by suggesting that type of scenario." "You must take over and control all of us as if we were your children." When I heard that I was done for. Longer story shorter. I took over and my captain was very impressed. But I do agree that training is what breeds success.

@@psvnjengi5840 the iraqi military was the 4th most powerful in the world prior to the gulf war, fielding a million troops... they were down 40% when we invaded again in 03, thats still a force of 600,000 troops, which outnumbered all 5 branches of the us military combined. These guys werent fighting the typical man dress insurgent forces like you saw later on in the gwot.

I was there at that time with 5th. I remember seeing the SEALS night after night stay in the palace. The GREEN BERETS went out every night. I went from Jordan to Baghdad with them. Green Berets are just so damn good.

My father told me stories of his engagements in Angola (South African Border War 26 August 1966 - 15 January 1990), he survived an anti tank mine (blew the front axle off his APC and broke all the connective tissue between his ribs and sternum) and an ambush. This video put those stories into perspective, the reality of conflict, the blessing I have for still having a dad. Thank you for your service sir, and the illumination on the reality of the battlefield.

Thank you SO much for doing this! Our Veterans have been through some crazy stuff. I'm grateful people are willing to share their stories. These stories help me to appreciate, understand, and be more patient and loving with my Veteran.

As a young 24 year old man. Who served in the Army as a Corporal as a 19D and deploy in Korea for exercise training. One thing I realize is when you get a group of men willing to fight. Regardless of training or not. And willing to deal with the adversities that come with training on the ground. They more open to adapt, improvise, and overcome. Even the soldiers that "lack discipline" become well aware and adaptable of the situation. There something about adversity that gets everyone going

@Morgan Hill yes even though they donated to bidens camp. The soldiers that are out there at the camp could always use donations. It isn’t biden out there at the camps. So why would it matter if they donated to one of the camps?

Honestly total respect to all our armed forces. But it just shows you what the boys went through in WW1 and WW2. The bravery that these kids had in WW1 and 2 is unreal.

@@ricbrow8752 Russia was a help. They forced the Germans to fight on another front, but also suffered the most of any country in WWII. There were a lot more fronts than just Russia and Germany.

But still after the Japanese started the surrender process.. the evil usa let the second nuke drop anyway.. and they haven't stopped killing and mutilating civilians since that day

This current young gen is a sad state of affair, the woke, alphabet people the non binary or trans will they step up to the plate? Men or man there are still some mostly in the outer country towns but that soon will be eroded away, they trying to remove masculinity so the new gen of sensitive men can take it's place?

@@anydaynow01 so true and now I just wonder what’s going on in that country now that the Taliban took over again. This whole war just makes 0 sense and just leaving makes it seem even more pointless. We need to put a end to this whole isis thing once and for all. I think every friendly country should send their best and shut down the country. Put all of the Taliban in a hole or put them in prison for life.

This was a tough day for my family. My little brother was an Apache Pilot with the 4th of 227th ARB, it was 2 pilots from his unit that were shot down that day. Their names were Cornell Chao and Mark Resh. We got word that day that an Apache from my brother's unit was shot down, but no other details. Needless to say, my sister-in-law was a complete wreck. This was my brothers first deployment and they had 5 young kids. She thought her worst nightmare had come true. When my brother got back state-side he told me about what happened that day. He said, the first bird that flew over the compound held its fire because it had never seen so many enemy forces in one area, he thought they we friendly's. When his wing man (Choa and Resh) followed him in they took an RPG to the cockpit and went down. It took a couple of tense days before we found out my brother was okay, but that moment in time has always stuck with me. It was great to have this put into perspective from the guys on the ground. God bless all you guys.

Thank you for the stories! I didn't serve but had a younger cousin that served 3 tours (I believe) in the army in Fallujah his 1st tour. He came back home and wasn't the same, we lost him and his brother on Thanksgiving morning In a drunk driving crash, the two other guys In the car walked away. I believe God took them because Duane was so broken inside from the war. Thank you for all our boys have endured, my heart and prayers are with you.
