Army Rangers SMOKED Some Crips in 1989...
Ойын-сауық
NEW MERCH: ethos.to/popomedic
Sgt. Bill Foulk was an Army Ranger at Fort Lewis, Washington, when he purchased a cheap house in a rough Tacoma neighborhood as an investment in 1989.
Foulk grew concerned that a house on Ash Street, his block, was infested with gang activity. He purchased his own house for $10,000 ($20,875 in 2019 dollars), with the idea that property values would rise.
He began to videotape the people who visited the suspected drug house. He wasn't wrong. The occupants were members of the Crips, the violent street gang that was spreading from California to Washington in search of new markets for drugs.
Foulk told The Associated Press that gang members began to threaten him when they noticed he was filming their movements. When he feared that the gang was about to take action against him, he called friends from the 2nd Ranger Battalion to his house to have a "BBQ" and be present in case the house was attacked.
Just after the Rangers arrived on Sept. 23, 1989, some 15 to 20 gang members began to shoot up the 32-year-old's house while his buddies were inside. Luckily, the Rangers had brought their own personal weapons to the BBQ. The Crips were surprised when their would-be victim's house began to return fire and ran for their lives.

I've said this elsewhere, but I think it bears repeating - if only one dog on the block barks at the mailman, nobody is focusing on the mailman. The chief was likely trying to cover his ass, but it's also possible that his subordinates were more resentful towards the ranger than the gang members for forcing them to enter a shithole neighborhood to deal with stuff they were able to previously ignore. In an extreme case of irony, It's likely both the beat cops and the criminals would agree that the ranger's presence was a disruption to their normal routine.

This story reminds me of how bullying is handled at public schools. The victim reaches out to teachers, only to be ignored. As soon as the victim has had enough and fights back, they get chastised and told they should have reported it to the school faculty. Both kids are suspended, but the bully who doesn't give a shit about school anyways, sees it as a free vacation.

They didn't doublespeak. What they meant was, if Foulk had called the police, that the police would have responded and likely detained Foulk's men and weapons, so that the gang member wounding incident would have never occurred, but instead that when the gang members attacked un-opposed, that the great detectives of the area would have got some hot press time and been "hot on the trail" of those evil gang members for months, likely requesting more funding from down state at the same time. Phew, that's a lengthy one, but is totally reality. Attack your law abiding american citizens because they're easy targets that won't fight back is the name of the game for Police. If there is one thing we are to fear above the tyranny of evil men, it is the indifference of good men. All that is required for evil to flourish is for good to do nothing. And for the pacifists (and others, I kind of got on a tangent towards the end...): Do not confuse not wishing to do harm with the inability to. Non-violence does not mean non-violent. There is a difference between knowing how to defend yourself and others from an attacker to dissuade an attack, and being unable to defend yourself from any attacker. Also, never expect an enemy to cooperate in your dream engagement. The world is an ugly place, there are people who have been taken from (or at least are indoctrinated into playing the roll of believing they have been....) and only see the world in those terms, thus are intent on taking from you. Not learning how to defend oneself is to be complacent in those actions. To abstain from any form of self protection is to empower those who choose violence. The word "No" or "Stop" holds no more inherent power than the air it vibrates, and is far less than the actions they are used against. Words are powerless as hate does not have ears to hear them. It is non-violence compassion that should shine through once an attack has ceased. Be kind, never cruel or cowardly, do not seek to do harm, yet accept that harm may come as a consequence of our chaotic place in the world, above all do not be defenceless. This includes defending your mind against the curse of thought without action, and actions without thought. Scientific literacy is the inoculation protecting us against being taken advantage of through our inherent naive ignorance, do not let the arrogance of willful ignorance keep you pinned down under someone else's narrative. Oppression can come from every side of any aisle, never forget what the road to hell is paved with. And finally, speed is irrelevant if it is in the wrong direction. Quick kneejerk reactionary acts forego understanding and context, which as third (or fourth, or fifth, or....fox news viewers) parties to an event we are often not privy to, nor offered, in full, from a single party, even if they are directly involved. Shit happens, and people equal shit, ergo people happen. We can either celebrate our differences through understanding and mutual respect (yes, even for those who live lifestyles we do not agree with, Im looking at you, Karen...both the red and the blue, from the self-righteous to the 'im just sayin'...) to bring us together as a single race having to share this rock together, or we can continue to passively drive the wedges between us further curtailing our circles of acceptable acquaintances standing shamefully proud over the chasms of fear, hate, and prejudice dividing us. How long are we expected to stand, divided?

Such a baller ass story and fantastic storytelling. I was cracking up 😂
My dad met this one person back in the 90s while living in Pretoria, we'll call him John. John was a former Recce (South African Special Forces), and had taken part in multiple operations in Angola. Even though he was according to my dad a fairly humble and rather kind person, he suffered alot from PTSD, always sleeping with a Beretta under his pilow. John lived in a lower middle class area with some gang activity and the area suffered from constant breakins (this will be important later) The story goes that at some point, one of Johns best friends/ neighboor came to him for help, he had been robbed in the middle of the night, with his family injured severly and hus watch stolen. John went, found out who the gang was that had committed the crime and left in the middle of the night. He returned the next morning with the money and gold watch. Never answered how he found it or what he did. Then it came out some gang members had been murdered and an investigation was launched before being quickly shelved and then written off. The gangs tried to retaliate (or it could have been some normal criminals) and tried to break into his house only for him to shoot 2 of them. After that, not a single criminal or gang came within 5 blocks of Johns house and he quickly became known as the boogyman of the area tl;dr: dont fuck with combat vets

I live in the country. There are redneck versions of thugs here, but the difference is everyone kinda knows who they are. When I was little, my dad was working in the mines in WV, and we lived in KY. It's pretty common for people to drive about 2 hours one way to go to work. These individuals knew this too. Well, my mom heard people talking and basically probing the house to see who's home or if it'd be a good place to rob. This wasn't a neighborhood; we were about a mile away from anyone, so the motive was pretty clear. Two nights after that, my dad took off work and parked his truck at my uncle's house to make it look like any other workday. Long story short, he killed a 23-year-old opiate fiend halfway through the window, heard footsteps running away, and shot in the direction of the sound. My sister said she still remembers the gun going off. I was just a baby, so all this was told to me secondhand. Apparently, the cops asked my dad why he didn't kill the other guy or something along those lines. Anyways my Dad is the the stereotypical type of redneck you're probably thinking about right now. very calm very kind but will fucking kill you if you fuck in and around his home. Anyways, idk why i sat n typed all of this. Its actually something i forgot about, so much that i don't think my wife even knows about lol. I wish i could tie it up nicely into a lesson but its pretty obvious. Dont fuck with men especially in their home. There's a joke that says something about you dont fuck with a place that has a car engine hanging in a tree, or a transmission in a bathtub because that's where a gun lives. its Jeff Foxworthy, holy fuck thats a name i haven't seen in awhile. I pasted this in the main thread too after typing it here. to justify all the typing mostly but yea less mystery same logic.
What a legend that he still lives there til this day. He fought for the right to live where he did and him still being there is awesome

10/21/23 This popped up on my feed today and very interesting I was living and still living in Tacoma Washington and I remembered this incident in 1989. And unfortunately this type of crime is starting to run rampant again in Tacoma mostly with teenagers stealing cars robbing businesses and individuals and having guns. We had an incident recently where an officer tried to stop some kids in a stolen car and one of the kids pulled a gun and hit the officer in the shoulder We are having the same issues with bad police response because of a lack of officers and policies and procedures by our worthless city council and mayor being soft on crime. The police officers trying to do the best they can but are limited, crimes increasing but yet the city police chief says it isn't it's going down yet we're averaging 75 cars a day being stolen in Tacoma Washington they're saying violent crime is down in Tacoma when in fact the overall crime is is rising and they don't want to admit it.

@@CMCSE A private military vs. a national military is often a losing fight on the private side. Motivation isn't there like it is with the national military who are motivated from an ideological perspective. This is why when the USA goes to war in a foreign country with questionable at best motivations, they are given hell by what are essentially farmers with AKs. The same played out in Vietnam, Iraq, etc. Although there are private contractors who are ex-military who are there for the money and the thrill of being a door kicker too. @@drownthepoor The same is applied to national military, the soldiers enlisted today aren't infallible when it comes to motives, most join because they are dangled a shiny keychain of promises and advantages that they otherwise would struggle with obtaining through regular civilian work and as such even if they go through basic training most times aren't the mentally unrelenting forces you paint them to be, most of what keeps them from deserting is the fact that they are actually obligated by law to remain unless the situation calls otherwise whereas contractors are not. Also most mercenaries already are ex-military, the few that aren't are the ones that get commissioned from rich people or criminal groups since most serious PMCs know they are putting their money on the line if their employees don't meet their specific quality control and they must ABSOLUTELY make a profit, having soldiers that won't fight or protect your merch is a sure way that you'll never hire them again and that PMCs want to avoid at all costs.

Rangers! They went up against not just one, but several.. oh boy that was a silly move!!! haha I was expecting there to be a complete pile of gang members when the dust cleared. They got lucky- but then again, if you're in a gang-related shootout, it's not like you can go seek medical assistance. I served with a Ranger- They're not to be trifled with. :D We joined Navy boot camp at the same time... I was 17 and acted as most 17 year olds did.. and this other guy was very chill, friendly, but take no sh**. One day we were just chatting about how his prior service only let him get an automatic E3 in the Navy, but he wasn't too bothered about it. He said the REAL hassle, likely more than what it was worth... WAS that he had to wear his Bronze Star or he would be out of uniform by regulation. A few people took notice of his ribbon (and probably taken aback on the Jumpmaster pin as well) all like, "WHOAH hold on there." When confronted, he would usually reply, "I was just doing Airborne things, but it was just a case of I had to use the "facilities" (toilet) and that would have been hard to do with people shooting at us... So I had to go poo and confronted the enemy, so we could have a break." It was obvious he was prior service, but to see an E3 with a Bronze Star was something else. He would joke to the tune of, "I joined the Navy so I dont have to be put in the position to get another one." This was also around the same time a newly graduated recruit decided to wear a Navy SEAL pin and got in deep doodoo... So maybe the recruit commanders were just being overly cautious. But the Ranger (Now Navy Seaman) was like, "yup... it's mine. and never got pissy" :P

At first, I was thinking the rangers were kind of in the wrong. He told his friends to come armed, so it was premeditated. They should have called the police. But then I started thinking, there is really no other way this could have ended without him being hurt, or worse. He would have called the police, the gang would have seen this, and they wouldn't have attacked that night. But they would have ultimately attacked, and he would have had no way to know when it would happen. Thank you for this video!! I had never heard of this!!

Imagine being a ranger defending our soil to then deal with this. All the boys wanted a shootout!
The absolute gall of the civilian police sergeant who lectured a team of active duty Ranger vets on R&R from a fucking combat deployment about defending their buddies home while his officers literally *fled the scene* will never not amaze me.

The fact that the cops weren't stacking dead bodies like cordwood makes me wonder about the competence of these rangers, and exactly how much they'd had to drink that night. I mean we're talking about RANGERS here, supposedly the army's best, and they were dug in and expecting an attack, so those bangers should have been walking dick first into a wood chipper.
@davesmith826

The real shame of this story is the beer. If those Rangers hadn't spent the afternoon sinking suds, there'd have been fifteen bodies on the lawn and street, not one wounded man. The gangbangers got off lightly.
I visited Ash street back in November and it was a quiet nice neighborhood. Huge difference that what was described back in the 80s
"...against all enemies, foreign and domestic."
Former Ranger Terrence Popp told this story on his KZread channel. He did not personally participate because he had duty that night but he knew all these guys and even loaned one a 12 gauge shotgun to bring to the gunfight. He said the crackhouse across the street had so many bullet holes in that it was condemned and torn down.

@@neinja66469 You might be surprised how gangs happen and thrive. Im a hard on violent crime kinda guy but thr fact remains that most gangs form out of a protectionist neccessity. Often from the gov. Take Canada for example. 4 years ago, you were probably clearly either legit or crimminal. Throw a dictator and outbreak into the mix and suddenly you have gangs of people just trying to eat. Fast forward that a few years and they may have to diversify.

I find it a little concerning that a large Army Ranger "squad" with the benefit of defensive positions and a planned counter-ambush was unable to inflict a single confirmed casualty against untrained gang members w/ pistols and considering how many close calls and injuries they had it doesn't sound like they did any better at all _whatsoever_ and I don't get why the video keeps implying they were badass and the gang members were pussies because given the disparity in training and experience this was an outright _embarrassment_ for an elite group like the Rangers ...and if their intent was to not kill but rather suppress _in a residential neighborhood_ then that's even worse.

@@llYossarian not really a planned counter ambush.. they knew they were coming but they didn’t know when, how many, or where they would be coming from. Can’t really plan anything that way. But they did have defensive positions. And of course there wouldn’t be any confirmed injuries/casualties because they can’t go to any hospitals since ya know… it’s kind of illegal to have shootouts and they’d be put under police investigation. It was also dark, no lights at all apparently. So ya know there’s that. Kind of hard to hit people who are black, dressed in black, and have cover in the middle of the night on an unlit street… point is I’d like to see you last 3 seconds in a similar situation lmao
When I was about 13 years old my Ranger step dad moved us to Tacoma in August of 1989 after his deployment in Panama ended and he was stationed to Fort Lewis. The 1990 New Year party in Lakewood was the first big military party I had been to. They had rented out an entire hotel complex just off base and had hundreds of well armed military guys with their families show up to celebrate the holiday. I remember being told something about a gang retaliation was possible and to stay within certain buildings. Never had any clue as to why until now...I need to have a talk with my stepdad lol.

I learned about this incident when I was in the U.S. Army, going through Ranger Indoctrination Program (RIP). It was told as a tangible lesson in how far Rangers will go for each other. Rangers are expected, and do, have each other's backs in any situation, as long as that Ranger is morally in the right. Loyalty to each other goes beyond blood, law, religion, or any other concerns. That was the lesson taught to a bunch of 18-20 year old boys, trying to become men, using this as an example of the dedication expected between brothers.
