My brother's friend was an ARMY sniper while my brother was a SDM. Guess who looked up to whom.

I will never forget basic at Ft. Knox, 1973, when they took us out to the sniper course. Drill sarge said to look out across the field and woods and identify the snipers. Well, nobody could identify one. Sarge had them come out and damn, 5 of them came out from their lairs, in the trees, on the ground. One was within 10yards of our position.

that's an awesome story. I grew up shooting and know I could hit marksman level shots. I was the captian of my rifle team in high school. These kind of videos remind me that a good shot isn't all it takes to be a real sniper.

4:07 I really appreciate that Both those men. One is clearly aware that he needs to get better with the wind and the other isn’t sugar coating it saying that it’s good. I’m sure you have to be very precise in battle so having those types of people to set an example is awesome 👏

this is the most Positive talks in every army documentary i've ever watched. less yelling, simple explanation by the instructor, and also great job keeping the motivation up.

My nephew went through and graduated this course. He tells stories about what went on during his time there. This video is exactly how he describes it. He went on to Afghanistan, and came home safely, thanks to this training he received. Tough course.

I was fortunate enough to enter sniper school in the early 2000’s. Unfortunately, I didn’t finish, but did make it to week 3. Just those 3 weeks help me realize that was NOT my calling. Kudos to all who at least had the guts to try!

I was told by a retired SF guy that they used truck tires as range estimation items. He said they were usually 36ish inches. Of course that varies by truck type, but knowing that military pickups usually had X size tires and 5 ton type trucks had X size tires is an easy thing to remember.

@@ayfr1249 We were never given "tech" in sniper school. No damn wind readers and no laser range finders. Whatever operates on a battery will ultimately fail you at the moment you need it.

@Ay Fr yep. And tech still uses batteries. Sniper school taught range finding by many methods, and there was no battery operated equipment involved...and we always hit targets. Old school baby, without fail. Ask yourself this. Did Carlos Hathcock use a laser range finder? 94 confirmed kills.

I always wanted to be a sniper. Fresh out of highschool my goal was to join the army, go infantry, and get my Ranger Tab. I wanted to be an army ranger sniper. I went to the local recruiting office and took the practice AS FAB test. I needed to improve my math scores to be a sniper. I studied, and trained my body. But a previous knee injury stopped me from joining.. heavy respect for all those who do and have served

Ton of respect towards those who endure this training. Having a well trained sniper can make or break an engagement from succeeding or failing so it’s cool to see what goes on.

I agree. I thought about joining the armed forces when I was 18. After talking with the recruiter I knew I didn’t have the mindset or discipline to handle it. I would not have survived boot camp. I have much respect for the men and women that are in the service, willing to put their lives on the line for the rest of us.

That sniper push up is fkn Brutal.

During my Junior Leadership course, we had a segment of trying to sneak up on an observation tower. It was in the middle of winter, and we had to crawl through 3 feet of snow. Most of the class just stood up and started walking. We were drenched to the bone and our uniforms froze solid. Kudos to those that passed.

My how things have changed over the years... My sniper school was almost 35 years ago. Much of what we as a part of being in the Long Range Recon battalion is now being taught here to these new sniper candidates and I for one TOTALLY APPROVE OF! This is what being a sniper is all about, not the actual shot - any decent expert can do that part of it - it's getting there AND back again with both the kill and the detailed info of where they were are FAR MORE IMPORTANT! I'm VERY impressed with this school and their instructors, GREAT JOB!!!

NONE BETTER than when we had. 2500 meters "was" possible with our weapons... Today's .50 Cal's are something in a league of it's own. We would have DROOLED all over these new rifles of today's snipers!!! :)

@@deusvult6920 💕that’s odd bcuz my son was an MP (716 th MP BN) and SRT was full time…they even had their own separate uniform, they would transfer out of their company to that “job” and those who qualified were sent to sniper school, 2 phases…and my son got his sniper tab, coin, and was the sniper team leader of alpha team…they were also attached with 5th group in certain operations (5th SFG A) They trained the local swat teams…in 2 adjoining states and won the swat team competition 2 yrs in a row. he attended seminars and training courses with the a special task force including the federal swat team when they were going over the various techniques employed during the Las Vegas shoot out etc. You must have a very different set up. 💕

Some of these scenes show a device attached to their rifles above their scopes. That is an AN/PSQ-23 laser rangefinger, made by L3/Insight Technologies. This has a rangefinder with a range of 6 kilometers (way beyond effective range of sniper rifles) and includes a digital magnetic compass which also shows elevation in addition to azimuth. It is MILES system compatible and can be interlinked with other equipment to share targeting information. A neat piece of gear, and only costs roughly 15,000 dollars apiece.

Saw one at a yardsale for 2 dollars. Lady was selling her divorced husbands stuff. I didnt buy it because i thought it was just a cheap chinese Mcstar type of optic. Later found out what it was and went back it was gone along with the box of other goodies she had for sub 5 dollar prices

I give these guys and are past service men & women so much props! I could never handle such situation or have the patients for it. The first time I experience a sniper battle is playing the video game "Metal Gear Solid 3" back in 2004. There is a boss battle with The End who is a grandmaster sniper in the game. The terrain is huge and he camouflaged so well. When I first fought him, I had a lot of help thanks to Kojima making it easier for players who don't have the patients to deal with him. The 3rd time I fought him, I decided to fight like a real sniper battle and oh man, was it really darn hard to find him. Without using the konami code, killing or capturing his parrot, the directional microphone, and thermal goggles, it would literally take hours or days to kill him as you rely on his footsteps and lens flare to give away his position. For everyone that made it to sniping class and graduation, thank you very much!

pros: being sniper cons: math

Fishing lines, good for sewing ghillie suits together, as it's strong and doesn't rot. Can use it to repair the soles on Boots too, I had me a pair of Danner boots when I was a Young adult and when the soles got too worn, I just picked the seams, took the soles off some old German army boots and sewed them on my Danner boots, got another 10 years out of them until the uppers worn so much that they become unrepairable. I didn't notice on the Ghillie suits worn by these Sniper trainees but sewing rubber pads with fishing wire onto high wear places is useful too, elbows, knees, hips, etc, everywhere, where, you're going to be dragging yourself through and over the rough terrain is useful as it cushions the areas somewhat and stops sharp bits of wood or stones from penetrating the suit itself. I think maybe one of the guys might have had some rubber sewn onto the front of his suit, maybe, (can't be arsed watching it again to find who it was though). It surprised me that one of the guys was wearing glasses, Clark Kent type ones too, I doubt many Snipers wear glasses, unless It's for intermediate use, as I guess you could get away with not having to use those out in the Field, being short-sighted would be a hindrance though.

As a sniper, it's not easy. The distance, wind, gravity, to the weight of the weapon and ammunition that hold the weapon. If you think it's more about shooting a sniper weapon, than you failed the mission. Remember the sniper is the eyes of field commander.

Sniper skills is so very very important for our life's Because we can save our nation and our country

I served as a Sniper in fortnite battle royal from 2017-present. It was usually just me and three other comrades. What they don't teach you in Sniper school is how to take a shot when you don't have a spotter. Furthermore, the ability to take a shot while the target is in motion and jumping is also absolutely necessary(usually the target is 200m away or 2m away). You can only attain these skills through practice and experience. I highly recommend deploying to Pub G battle royal or COD battle royal before attempting fornite as in fortnite there is almost no camouflage unless u hide in a bush or something or disguise yourself as a prop.

Not everyone can pass and make it i to fortnite sniper school. I didnt get past pubg. I was kicked out after acomplishing COD though but ths pubg is were i failed and wich was able to allow me to see the dedication that it takes to achieve the skill to gradute from fortnite.

I’m so glad that my son is at Fort Benning he is a staff Sergeant drill instructor in the Handgrenades school you guys be careful out there OK. That’s what I always wanted to be I wanted to be a sniper. Thank you for all serving the United States military keeping us safe

The is no hand grenade school in the Army. However, there is a hand grenade range that all basic trainees attend and is a one day training event. That said, "drill sergeants" don't run that range so I'll assume your son is cadre at the hand grenade range.

SFC Pharr was my Drill Sgt in C CO 150!! He was one of the best DS there, he really cared about everyone!

this is so interesting. ive seen a lot of videos on army boot camps and whatnot but this one is different - you can tell the guys are really intelligent and genuine people, which it sounds like is on purpose because of the psych exam and recommendation letter needed to be accepted.

a very strict and heavy selection really demands intelligence and mentality. salute to sniper squad in every special army unit around the world. indeed not just anyone who was chosen to join the unit.

Great video. The gear has changed, but the skills remain the same. In case you're interested, the camera captured the trace of the bullet going downrange at 5:25. You might have to slow down the video to .25 to see it better. That's what we look for on each shot as a Spotter, to help the Sniper (Shooter) adjust the next shot. SSG. The Royal Marines Sniper Course, ( PW 3's Course)(Platoon Weapon 3's Course) is a 13 week course, firstly attending a weeks pre/selection course. Over the years weapons used have changed. In 1977 I used the L42A1, the converted Lee Enfield 303 WW2 rifle. Converted to 7.62mm. At that time snipers worked individually, now in pairs....tactics and technology evolve.........

this was highly enjoyable to watch and it seems deep enough to get an understanding of what theyre doing

Show this to some freshmen in high school and you should be getting a few snipers ahead of time. This is very cool and interesting , the training is incredible and looks so much fun ... The fact that they make it part of a training course to stay undetected looks so fun and is in many ways a great way to train those who need to practice the art of stealth and camo.. blending into your surroundings . I'm sure it is easier said than done but man I sure wish I would have had this in mind when I was much younger. How awesome this training is man ...

I agree completely with the both of you ... Today's generation is fixated on TikTok videos and its developing kids into self centered annoying brats . Also, this definitely isn't for the weak hearted man , I can say Im down to have a go at it but when the situation gets real , only those that are able to stomach such intensity only really know when they are confronted with the real deal .

These men are top notch soldiers. They’re smart enough to calculate outside factors,skilled enough to shoot with accuracy and fit enough to go through extremely physically demanding situations. Most high schoolers nowadays think finding roots a trinomial is hard and lame I doubt they’d want to sit through and learn how to calculate radians

Graduated in the early 90's and not much has changed except for the equipment.

I wish I decided to do this when I graduated highschool. I went to a customer appreciation day at my local gunshop and got to shoot a 6.5 I've never shot at 600-1000 yards. Army rangers sighted it and guided me with windage so it was so easy with such experts guiding you to hit a literal tennis ball.

dad was a sniper for 20 years i love grabbing his gear and going to the range to out shoot most of my friends they thought it was something super hard till i put them behind the gun and opened the book my dad had from his time in the service starting going to the charts and telling them what to hold and bam they hit a pop can at 600yds
