@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines beefah... Up your budget for fire fighters. You've been dealing with above average rng fires. Which means that your map has encoded fires on a higher rate. I know you often neglect it as you are on an island surrounded by waters and it would not really matter. But think of it as actual new zealand. The same way your new tealand is made. New Zealand has 3,000 to 4,000 wild fires each year. Best to invest in your fire fighters as much as they do. Edit: saw the ending of it. Don't simply god mode it as New Zealand themselves do handle their fires without god mode. I know it is your map. But when a realistic problem occured in a game the same way it does in reality. Its a quirk worth handling the same way in real life does. Adding a bit of realism in-game. Tip* add fire fighters on the top of the mountain. It has a better overwatch of the whole island. (btw there is often a fire station in the mountains where bushfires happen often.)

@@abramrexjoaquin7513 I've been playing on the same map, kind of following along in the beginning. This map is just too much. I've had to put in as much as 6 fire helicopter depots so far, one for each unlocked square, firestations all over the place, up to a point that it became just unrealistic for my liking. I can't atalk about New Zealand though, so not commenting on that. I've had my city burn down twice entirely, all 6 squares just started to burn at once. This caused twice a bailout popup because nothing was left and I just went bankrupt. I do have fire prevention policies in place etc, but still... So finally, @Biffa Plays Indie Games this might be one to look into, I installed the 'Tree Fire Control' mod to turn down the spread rate of fires. It does not stop the fires from happening, (it can do that), but I just turned the spread rate down a bit to a point that I found it acceptable and giving me some ease of mind knowing my overpowered fire fighting capabilities can handle all the fires.

Wanted to say that. Also, don't make all the neighbourhood roads standard bike roads, you lose all the parking. C'mon Biffa, I learned this from you, in Teaport, you got the workshop 2lane-biking-parking(+trees). There's also a 4 lane version. Or just make a cohesive path from your bike roads and leave some of the others normal. Oh, and also from you, the paths with pedestrian+biking (separated).

Lol, was about to jump in and say this exact thing too. You're better off just using normal pedestrian paths as both walkers and cyclists can use those. But, yes, there are multiple mods on the workshop for various bike roads. Plus there's about 500 various "parking" parks from 1 x 1 to 1 x 4 to 4 x 4 that you can scatter about if you really want to allow parking. I use them on curved roads, where you inevitably get those 1 or 2 lonely grids that never get developed.

Someone else has probably mentioned it already: that flickering of the roundabout at around 5:00 is known as Z-fighting. It happens when two planes share the same space, the graphics get confused about which one to render over the other; moving the camera provokes it into flickering like that, while leaving the camera still for a time lets it temporarily settle down. I'm afraid whether you have a mod tool out or not does not actually do anything. This is a phenomenon present across ALL games when two textures overlap each other.

Okay, honestly… ever since you started this series, you’ve been building walking paths everywhere and they WERE working. But now, you turned almost all of them into cycling paths. Wouldn’t it have made sense to build another system of paths alongside the walking ones? Because having done this you’ve basically killed all the pedestrian connections. I don’t wanna sound negative, but I reckon it is really like this. Moreover, you turned all of the “over-highway connections” and “cross-block connections” into biking paths, so now pedestrians cannot walk there anymore (for example from the very first part of the city to the train station, mall and tennis courts.) The second thing is the problem with you turning half of the roads into ones with biking lanes (which is really great), but you don’t have basically any roads with trees anymore, which makes some parts of the city look kinda empty and industrial. If I were you, I’d definitely download all of the roads with cycling paths you have once more, but this time with trees (and maybe they could be just one-way with one cars, one biking and one parking lane) - I’m pretty sure something like that exists. I hope this helps and, once more, I don’t wanna sound negative, I just wanted to suggest some changes. :)

24:10 I vote that you connect the 2 sides of the city with a cool bike path bridge that winds along the coast. Check out the Shimanami Kaido bike path in Japan for inspiration :) Your residents will LOVE it. Also, an alternate route up over the mountains would be great for serious cycles. It might even inspire a local bike race. I say, give your sporty residents the option.

Just to be clear, there are plenty of bicycle tunnles through mountains in Europe. Must admit, it's not the most ideal road, but it exists. So if you want to, you could still do a road connection from Segment 1 to Segment 2. (Do a Poll)

I've played this map, and experienced the extreme fire danger that it holds. The answer I found was quite simple. City wide policy of Smoke Detectors, and strategically placed firewatch towers on the mountains. The fire danger went away almost completely, and i never had a wildfire outbreak again.

You should add a bike path from the corner of Chestnut Hill to Uppitea Glamping or the cycle superhighway! Otherwise everyone had to backtrack through all of Chestnut Hill if they just want to pop across the river to the residential area.

"Encourage biking" , as mentioned previously, is a great boost to bike use. It needs to be set in each district. Vanilla bike paths are bicycle only, and are not a good substitute for pedestrian paths. Sam Burr uses a combo path from the workshop that I have found to have a great attraction to bikers and pedestrians. Nice job with the concept.. I question the use of bike paths on high traffic round- abouts. Seems they might impede traffic flow.

Biffa the more realistic solution to the fire is to add the ‘water sprinkler policy’. Or as I usually do plop a mini-fire station i got from the workshop near heavy industries. I’d keep the challenge of having fire spread on, adds more drama.

The bicycle network is fantastic! Biffa, you are the traffic master! The fires, however, seem to be a bit of a problem for you. Make sure you're placing at least a small fire station and police station in each area you build so that they can manage that area for you. They're only 3x3 squares each, so their space requirement is negligible when compared to their benefit!

I noticed in the last episode an issue with you tram line, with trams going all the way around just for one stop, which is usually why usage is so low (long journey times, happened to me a few times), and why you can see trams following directly behind eachother :)

"We dug a tunnel through the mountain for cars, we're not doing it again for the bicyclists" or "the bicycle highway ends here and starts up again at another place a few kilometres away" - Biffa, you sound like a municipal politician! 😂 That's the real life problem people encounter when they want to use alternative forms of transport. It's ok when there's a train connection, but if this were real life where you can't whip out a car from your pocket (we're not Dr. Pym afterall) this is an unfortunate complication.

To connect both sections of city I would change the two way highway to a two way road with bicycle lanes. I also would deletify the tunnel portion and extend that section to follow the coast! I think that would be a great spot to drive instead of ruining the best view with that tunnel if it were real life! Love the series!

I suggest using the bicycle+pedestrian path. It's a mod which I've used extensively, to the point where I don't use bike paths anymore, but bike+pedestrian paths. The only exception is the bike dirt paths, equivalent of the dirt roads but for bikes only, which I run aside the pedestrian dirt paths.

That flashing is called z-fighting. It's a common problem that has to be addressed in all computer graphics applications when 2 things are on the same z-depth and both "fight" to be shown. a usual fix in most games, if possible, is to slightly move one of the surfaces above or below the other one. If that's not possible, then it's kinda just something the devs or modders have to fix.

Loving all the little mod tutorials mixed in. It's not always obvious how to use them so seeing the various steps is super useful. Love the details on that little path along the highway. Trees and light poles 🤩 That little photo of the guy on the bike and the fire in the background. Too good. RE the fire problems - I am a few episodes behind here - but redundancy spread across this city is also a "real" option. aka move one of each water station to a different part of the city. Move the power town off on its own in the middle of a field. Put the structures near fire stations etc. Maybe think of fire problems in the same way you appreciated the traffic "problems" - how do you "solve" them within the games mechanics. Aka what would a IRL engineer do? That said, your city does seem to burst into flames an unusually large amount. 😆 Just another kind of hard mode I guess.

Couple of notes: - Try not to upgrade every major road to one with a bike lane. You want to have different infrastructure for cars and bicycles: have a separate main road and main bicycle path. - Same thing for public transport, try and make the main public transport infrastructure separate from the bike and car infrastructure. - The paths you replaced with a bike path are not the ones where you can walk along. There is a combined bicycle/walking path somewhere. These tips should make it way more realistic. Maybe it's more of a hassle though.
