Rule #1. When there are two desk clerks, the moment one leaves, the other gets swamped. It doesn't matter what time it is. It doesn't matter how slow it -seems-... it happens.

The last one touched me as my brother suffers with MS. He would laugh out loud at someone telling him he’s ‘a mess’. Your customer’s reaction was dead on with our family! Concerned for their family member, but not willing to harangue an individual over an honest mistake. And I bet if she told grandpa, he’d get a chuckle as well!

geniune question, what is so wrong about calling someone a mess? doesn't it just mean the person can't get their shits tgt? isn't it fine to ask for an early check in or wtv because someone's a mess? yk, so that they can have a room to calm down in and all?

This happened! We had an impatient guest that literally harrased the housekeeping staff, telling them to "hurry up". I've been working hospitality for a long time and people just seem to be more rude than ever. Fortunately there are wonderful guests too so that makes up for it, partly anyway.

I flew cross country (Cali to upstate NY) on a red-eye for a wedding at the hotel I was staying at. Got to the hotel WAY before checkin. Went to the desk clerk “I know I am WAY early & if my room isn’t ready, I totally understand. But, I have nowhere else to go, so, if my room isn’t ready, I’m gonna go hang out in that corner. Unfortunately, I haven’t showered since yesterday morning, so I apologize if I stink up the lobby” I said the last part in a jovial tone & desk clerk chuckled. Within half an hour, I had my room. 😂😂😂

"Issued a challenge" ... that's managerial popsmart lingo for "crap nobody else wants to do". And the Mrs. Anderson outcome was sooo satisfying. "My room", my arse. You may rent it for a few nights, but it's still, at the end of the day, the hotel's property. 😎 And I just love the bartender's attitude and snappy comebacks. I remember my first job working at hotels. I had jus been hired as nigjt auditor. The lady who was supposed to be training me was fast asleep in the back room. A man came up to check in. I got him checked in, and gave him his keys. (It was back when we still used actual keys). He was already feeling no pain, but went over to the Greyhound Racing Track and had a few more drinks. Next morning my GM called me. The man was so drunk that he didnt realize until he woke up the next morning that I had accidentally given him the keys to the supply closet. The GM was laughing so hard she could bearly talk.

In the autumn of 2005, Hurricane Wilma seriously damaged one of our tropical resorts, closing it permanently. Our Elite guest called, demanding that I "personally" find a comparable resort "somewhere in the tropics" for his family's Christmas holiday. I apologized, explaining that our hurricane policy offered a full refund of the loyalty points, but that our remaining vacancies were at more luxurious resorts, at a higher redemption rate. "Oh no." he yelled. "This is your fault and you're gonna make it right!" We did make it right. We refunded his points in full.

I spent several years working in rental cars. Everything you've skitted is rehashing my nightmares. Remember, rental car counter agents are the first hospitality employees that deal with the customers after the airlines have pissed them off. The rental car counter agents do their best to ease the customers, and they even get to go for a drive to hopefully calm them down before they get to the hotel. Imagine your worst customer experiences and multiply it by some imaginable number, then multiply it by 10. That's how bad it is, usually because airports do arrivals and departures in clusters. For several hours it's nothing but pissy customers. For another several hours it's dead enough where they get to kick their wounds, refill the parking lots with cars, and prepare to do it all over again.

As part of Loss Prevention training new people were required to go to room 1327. We had no 13th floor, and room 27 on a floor would be the elevator lobby. So to train then to know the layout of the hotel. We hoped they’d realize quickly, but if it took more than a few minutes, they rarely lasted a week.

It literally says BAR at the door, we don't even have the same entrance as the hotel part of the building but for some reason people seem to think it's the front desk. I once even had a person come in from the front desk, where they've been told the hotel is fully booked and asked me to do something about it or let them stay here because "you're part of the hotel, right? So you should have rooms". I swear, some people..

Multiple Sclerosis. It's a disease where the immune system starts attacking the body, specifically parts of the nerves. It's a progressive disease that gradually leads to greater disability. It seems to affect different people very differently. My aunt died from complications due to MS, but she lived with it for over 50 years before she died.

Jessica, you have the disposition that is considered as outstanding by employers that value their employees. As an astute CEO, I would employ you at a higher salary for your brilliance, but my job is necessary for my annual leave. I’d vote for you, but politics is toxic. I’m glad that you are on social media. It’s the new dumpster for depression, can’t afford to loose such a bright, sensitive and caring individual. CC this to HR, she’s killing our way of life because she annoys me with her truth. All personal leave is cancelled due to my …desire.
