Horrific details emerge in case of 13 captive siblings

David Turpin, 57, and Louise Turpin, 49, allegedly forced their children to shower only once a year, never took them to a dentist, and strangled and beat them routinely, prosecutors said.

Agreed, I’m a survivor as well and we lived in a duplex. My mother would blast rock music at 100 volume on school nights yet the people next door would just move out eventually. I feel like I survived mentally by playing outside to get away from the abuse. It’s not like our neighbors had no clue that kids lived there. I prayed every night that someone would help me and my sister. We even told CPS workers during a welfare check once about our mother’s delusions and constant screaming, (she was an extreme alcoholic and was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder) but nothing was done until years later when she was charged with domestic assault and battery against me when I was 11. She threw a tall glass of wine at my head as I was running away from her and it didn’t even shatter when it hit me in the head. My sister was brave enough to hide and call the police while I showered. I had a welt on my head for a week when we entered foster care. We didn’t bathe much because we were never taught proper hygiene so I really struggled with showering after that day especially. I can’t even smell alcohol to this day without feeling nauseous. I’m 21 now and me and my sister are finally in a better place. I pray that these children can live healthy and happy lives despite all of the torture they endured. Please, if you see suspicious behavior, just report it!

In total, I suffered through almost 9 years of infertility - tears, hopes dashed, testing, procedures, just PRAYING to get pregnant one more time, and THIS IS HOW SOMEBODY TREATS THEIR PRECIOUS GIFTS?? Beating, torturing, chaining up, starving, taunting psychologically, likely to the point of madness, let me say it is the MOST disgusting, despicable, horrific story I have ever heard and the worst set of parents that ever existed. I could throw up over this! All of these beautiful gifts from God that some people like me have to fight to have were treated worse than dirt by their own flesh and blood. Did they conceive these children simply to ruin their lives??? Rescued now or not, they will NEVER, EVER be the same. They will have trust issues with EVERYBODY, their health may possibly be forever changed, as they may not have had food enough for proper growth and nourishment. They will have extreme trouble in relationships, and just every day life will be a struggle. They will likely suffer depression, anxiety, body dysmorphic disorder, and possibly other disorders also because of this abuse. Their lives may have been saved, but they will mentally ALWAYS suffer, maybe physically, but I pray they get spared from as much of this as is humanly possible, as it was NEVER their fault, they should NEVER feel that way, they aren't 'bad kids' bad people, the ones who are bad, beyond bad, are going to be tortured and tormented for the rest of their lives behind bars, and I pray they get beat daily, whopped, assaulted, every day of their natural lives, and then once this life is through, you best be sure we ALL know what will be waiting for them next.. the burning fires of hell for eternity. Those poor kids/ young adults. I just cannot fathom that anybody could carry a child, hold that baby in their arms, and wish to do ANYTHING BUT PROTECT THAT PRECIOUS CHILD, NOT DESTROY IT!! These are sickos, and they are gonna get what is coming to them. LOTS of prayers to all of the victims. May they get the counseling that they very much need, and heal over time as quickly and as completely as possible. I wish I could take them all into my home, I really do. This is just soooo very sad!

willcarism I'm not prepared to submit a thesis via my index finger on my phone. What should be obvious to anyone paying attention, is the rise of the billions living in India and China now moving to achieve the same level of prosperity enjoyed by the west. That would require twice the resources the earth currently possesses. No society would willingly turn back the clock on technology for the chance to increase their population. Unbridled population growth can only create more disparity in the distribution of our finite resources and the more rapid depletion of the environment that provides them.

As a child growing up in a very abusive household I always hoped someone would notice and help. Literally anyone that may hear the fighting or screaming just anyone reach out and help, but what happened was the police were called regularly to our house and they NEVER talked to me or asked if I was ok. It was always my mother blaming everything on me being a "problem child" and my voice was never heard. Teachers often reported me to nurses for being underweight but it was always quickly dismissed and nothing happened. My severely bipolar mother was an expert of going from being in pure evil psychotic rage to calmly explaining how terrible her child is and how she HAS to resort to being physical because she just can't keep me under control! This woman could talk her way out of EVERYTHING and no one asked questions when I stopped showing up at school.

It is amazing to me how these situations pop up where the abusers were supposedly acting on some kind of religious principle and hide these horrendous behaviors behind it as well as using it as a defense. They find some old testament rites and rules to justify these horrific things. The N. Testament is just the opposite in it's teachings and they disregard it every time. No wonder the churches have their validity challenged and spin-off sects are highly suspect for good reason.

I am a bit crazy too but I will never do anything like this even to my worst enemy. My suggestion and reasoning are as follows: It costs a lot of money to keep people in jails. More than $120,000.00 per prisoner per year. I feel that our prisoners should have to work to pay for this care - ACs, TVs, Gyms, Heating, Food, safe and secure environment etc. My solution: Set up prisons with factories etc so that prisoners produce goods and services which are sold to the public. Money earned should be used to provide for the prisoners. More money --> more benefits for prisoners and staff. Less money --> less benefits for prisoners and staff. In this way the prisoners and staff will be motivated to work to earn more. We, the ordinary people will NOT have to pay for their maintenance. The figure of $120,000.00 per prisoner includes the loss to revenue to the Govt. if these individuals we gainfully employed in average jobs.

Feed him only 1/4 needed to sustain life and so on and so forth. Unfortunately this never happened. My nieces were 2 years old and 2 month old when the were rescued. This never happened to my family so we didn't understand it or know the signs. All of us went to classes and counselling in order to help us and the children. The children are both adults with children of thier own and all but the dad (not allowed near us. If he comes there is an arrow or two with his name on it) are still here helpin them so that history doesn't repeat. Anyway I really wish that this couple suffered the same way their children did and that the children can find loving caring people to hold onto while they recover and during the rest of their lives. Sorry this was long.

My brother and I, in our early 40's now we're raised much like these children. Our story never got told and our family never punished for what they did to us and we now live with the challenge of complex PTSD. Think about the few cases like this that get some kind of justice there are far too many that don't. Even children services did nothing. 😓

I can relate. I was raised in a very similar environment. We lived in filth & squalor. Both parents were hoarders. We had so many stray animals, that were uncared for. We slept on floors because beds were piled with dirty clothes, garbage, etc. I being the oldest was the target of the majority of the abuse. I don't feel it's necessary to elaborate on the abuse & horrid living conditions, but I will say that CPS removed me from my home after numerous complaints were filed from the various schools I attended. Ultimately, I was placed in Child Psychiatric Care, where I spent the next 4 yrs. Neither of my parents were held accountable for the cruelty they inflicted, but back in the 90's the system really didn't address child abuse/neglect. I struggle with C- PTSD & Panic Anxiety disorder (among other issues) as well. Just started EMDR to address the trauma. I'm so glad these children are getting the proper treatment, & hav alot of support around them to help them heal & overcome their traumatic ordeal so that they are able to have a chance at a happy, healthy, fulfilling life they so richly deserve. I also hope you are in a much better place in your life, & are blessed with love & support.

It was a miracle that she found someone who listened to her. Most people don't want to get involved, including school administrators and authorities. As a nation we are legally obligated to do this. Even for evil serial killers and child rapists. :*( These people are so sick. I have cried over this. But they must go through the procedure. Likely even more charges will be rendered. The evidence hasn't all been sorted out yet.

I loved each and every one and did all, i could to keep them safe, growing well and emotionally healthy. We had a lot of fun, but you had to be careful so no one was lost or hurt. They were so well behaved. People were blessed wherever they were.
