    I actually remember that Picard scene. That flute was the one he used while he had an alien out-of-body experience living an entire lifetime among a long-dead alien species, as part of that species effort to ensure they were not totally forgotten when their species was wiped out. That song he's playing is about the last bit of music anyone wrote on that planet before they were all killed, and he played it, and kept that flute, for the rest of the series. Intensely bittersweet.

    Maybe, ZeroB4NG. I have to agree with Honest Trailers about Humanity sending their dumbest people off into space. That would make for a quasi-humane death for a bunch of people you won't want to further polluting the human gene pool. What would really top off that quasi-humane death scheme would be putting the dumbest of the dumb onboard into leadership roles. Also I hadn't seen a Second-in-Command character resist being First-in-Command for so long and much of the movie since Supernova.

    It's still too much of a gap,almost everything was analog in the Nostromo, I mean, did you see the dam central computer? (Which is not consistent with completely artificial beings but whatever), thats not about being a less fancy ship, its clearly not the same techs, àd keep in mind this movie is a prequel.

  • @alexandersison2030

    @alexandersison2030

    I personally think the Nostromo could be explained as something built way way earlier than what the encyclopaedias have listed it as. If it were say a 50-year old trawler, I think it could help explain some of the technological differences. But the fact is, that as cool as the analog aesthetic comes off, it does really come off as dated and I can't really fault them for updating the look especially if they're gonna keep Weyland as this company that's always that threatening. Nostromo's tech could be just them really saving up on what they spend on freelancers, same with how they stripped the Fury 161 facility to the bare bones in Alien 3.

    I don't think it can be explained, b/c Ridley has made zero attempt to make the "prequels" look aesthetically like Alien. Alien was practically a fantasy movie with a sci-fi setting made in the late-70s. The costumes and the design of the ships kind of point to this, imo. There was no actual date for the events in the movie. It was just set in "the future". The new movies have actual dates and try to extrapolate modern technology to 50+ years from now. It simply looks too modern compared to Alien. IMO, I don't believe Ridley is really making legit Alien prequels. I feel he's making his own sci-fi movies that have the alien creature/mythos as a selling point.

    Ignore all the engineers, where do we / they come from nonsense, the one thing this film totally ruined... Ripley! In Alien she was an amazing character who went from meek/normal to scrambling survivor, to Aliens where she faced her demons and really became hard-boiled. The fact that she survives the first encounter means something, to the viewer and her character. The fact she survives the second encounter, and becomes a mother figure (again) to Newt, putting herself in harms way to save Newt again means something to the viewer and the evolution of her character. Then we find out that actually someone else (suspiciously looking exactly the same!?!?) already survived the same thing basically, which to me devalues Ripley's survival and character arc over the first two movies!

  • @mori1bund

    @mori1bund

    actually the 3rd alien movie already devalues everything from the first two movies, first by killing her "daughter" (which makes Ripley's accomplishment from the previous movie pointless) and in the end by killing Ripley herself.

    I am always checked in chess Yeah, I mean, it's not too hard to come up with a decent plot reason to divert their course--just make it so the ship is too damaged to make it to their original destination, boom, the captain's no longer an idiot for making that choice. But nope, they just couldn't go that route. And there's no possible way to excuse the total lack of caution they display while stomping around on an alien planet, even before bad things happen. I'm more careful walking around _my own yard_ than they were at any point. :/ Instead, I'm headcanoning the "cryogenics kills brain cells" theory. Yep. They're running around acting like they don't have two brain cells to rub together because they really _don't._ ...That was a joke, but in retrospect, it does make more sense that way. XD

    You guys ALWAYS hit the nail on the head with every movie you review and never fail to point out LITERALLY all the issues that I have with these movies. The movie industry could do SO MUCH BETTER if they ran stuff by you guys before releasing their abortions to the public. Also you guys give praise where its due as well like in Thor: Ragnarok. Thank you guys for everything you do! You are somehow able to salvage my time and money from seeing a GOD AWEFUL movie that I felt bad about seeing and then I come home and watch your Honest Trailer of it and suddenly I am almost glad I saw it just so I could watch your rundown of how bad it was! The views and likes speak for themselves. Have you guys thought of teaming up with HISHE? I usually watch both of your skits about a movie back to back.

    @@NeoConnor1 Yea, that was kinda the joke.. Ridley invented it, but his new ones suck, so we need another Aliens.. But I think maybe Cameron is also too old, and too into CGI to do it justice... Covenant or Avatar isn't much of a choice.. :)

    The really sad thing is that people believe, Ridley Scott hat somehow lost his touch with Alien. Fact is, he never had it. Go watch the DIRECTOR'S CUT of the very first Alien movie. It will bring you to tears. Scott completely ruins 80% of the movie by revealing the fact that there's an android on board whose task is finding and keeping any possibly encountered Alien life form save and sound. Also, none of the crew members are really dead, but they're being cocooned by the Alien as baby food, even though it's not a queen and therefore can't lay eggs. Ripley only finds the crew members shortly before the end and either kills them right away because they're suffering, or they all get blown up when she initiates the self destruct sequence. I don't remember, I don't care.

    Clarification of my not so correct statement: Scott reveals the identity of the android right at the beginning of the movie, thereby ruining the uncovering by Ripley later on.

    It’s like George Lucas and Star Wars, he’s not responsible for the iconic stuff many of the people who helped work on it are, and he never had the touch since so many had to rope him in. That’s why the prequels are horrible, it’s Lucas unrestrained because everyone else was a Yes-man
