I love the superstitions. Kinda sounds similar to DnD players actually. Not crazy superstitious, but if that one D20 rolls 3 '1's in 5 minutes, you bet we're never using that again lol.

While I was listening to you talking about the dress code email I visualized what Fischer would do. He would come to the event with a hard copy of the email and spit on it. That is one aspect of what makes a person who can win a WCC. The utter disregard of what other people think. Also a supreme confidence in themselves. That type of person accepts that they can lose games but they are convinced that in the long run they will win a WCC.

The French run all the major sport federations and they are so bad at it. FIDE, FIFA, FIA, FINA all terrible.

The biggest red flag that FIDE is not run by sane individuals is when they not just arbitrarily chose sides in the Russia Ukraine conflict, but actively harassed and punished Russian players, preventing them from sporting their national flag, and actually banned any professional players who made comments that went against the political stance that they adopted. Obviously, since FIDE is an international organization, it behooves them to not take sides in politics. They have no business doing so. But they did anyways. They are a disgrace to chess, and to international competition.

Nakamura is at Trump-level narcissism. Dude is so full of himself and it’s annoying.
