From time to time I watch classical music on YT and follow along the score. Of course, whenever I ask anyone else to try and follow along they can't because they don't understand anything that's written on the screen at all! I guess it's like that. You just get used to it, no matter how crowded or obscured the view is you still eventually manage to follow along with a single glance. And you also make sense of the context so if a move is expected you don't need to see well either, you just kinda understand the board and start seeing patterns as well rather than just positions.

  • @zimbu_

Correct answer is probably that it was digitized with old, no longer supported codecs from a extended/super long play VHS tape. I know because I'm a millennial (as is Hikaru) and therefore I remember the transition from analog to digital video. Nothing wrong with an 80s broadcast master, looks similar to this video in 480p.

The video with magnus playing beach volley was a just-for-fun challenge match on Norwegian national TV during the summer vacation. Magnus and Hammer were paired up with the players on the women national beachvolley team. They first played a game of beach volley. And then a chess match where the two players on a team had to make every other move. So, after playing a move, the GMs would have to watch helplessly as their teammate made the next move.

in 4:30 I see white move the rook from protecting the pawn ... even if the position seems quite closed for safely getting pieces in, why black just keeps repeating moves and dont take the pawn on a4? the knight protects the bishop queen can later be there to back up too. and just to buy time to get the rooks on the back to give strength to said pawn making forced blocking by strong pieces on the path of said pawn since they dont have a pawn there anymore.
