It's nice to see something other than foam used to protect the strike face. I appreciate when companies think outside the box.
Looks like the 4S17Ms are indeed a good option. John at Apex is a great guy

Literally the greatest source of info ever. That’s to all the info he has out on Reddit and fb he made it a breeze to decide on the 4S17M
I bought these years ago for a very good price, $220 each. Glad to see the performance is up there.
I have these in small SAPI (8.75x11.75) multicurve n a Defense Mechanisms MEPC. Made homemade backers out of 5mm dense foam. Fits fine. Feels pretty good.
First time, most thorough review I have ever seen. You have a new sub now!

I know they are similar but I would love you see you test the Highcom 4s16. They are one pound lighter and thinner then the 4s17m.
I wore these in Ukraine for 10 months. Solid plates. Lots of sweating, falling, hitting the ground.

I’m probably gonna do the same with the agilite k-0 bundle from apex. How’d your jpc hold up? Heard the shoulder straps stretch over time and make the carrier droop with no fix.

Could you do a video about plate carriers you recommend as well as which accessories to put on the carrier (chest mounted magazine carriers, etc.)? It gets extremely confusing trying to wade through all the different brands and trying to figure out what to order to build a proper armor setup. For example what sizes to order. Do you have a personal rig that you can share with us? Thanks.

Check out T-Rex Arms and Spiritus Systems for plate carrier videos and set ups. I'm not necessarily saying to go with either of those brands, get what works for you. But both have good videos on plate carriers and how to set them up.
Very nice. Any chance you could test the new TSG ASP (active shooter protection) III+ plate? Supposed to stop m855a1 and plate is .5" thick and equivalent in weight to pe plates.

Very good video! Any chance we can expect to see the 4S16 shooter’s cut tested? I’m skeptical given how light it is.

If Apex wants to work with me on it, or Highcom sure. It could be just they use a PE backer on it vs E-glass.
Let Highcom know we asked for them to send you a set of 4S16s and a helmet next. Thanks for the clear, concise video
Any chance you review the 3S9M???
Buffman up to date what is the best lvl 4 plates you have tested? Cost not a factor? Gonna have a lvl 3+ & 4 setup for work. This channel has been a blessing man.

hey man i need some guidance. im not sure if you remember but i bought those RMA rf2 plates just after your video praising them. They are light at 5.5 pounds yes, they stop 855a1 yes. But they are thicc like oatmeal. Im looking for an upgrade from these and was wondering what you would suggest? Just about everything i found while quickly peeking was either heavier than my current plates or exponentially more expensive, or in hescos case - both. TLDR: what is the next step up from the RMA 1092

My carrier has room for a 3a soft armor in front of the level4 plate and then the trauma pad. Can you test that option to see how different the results?
@BuffRANGE
8 ай бұрын
Soft armor has no benefit being placed in front of the plate. Rifle rounds don't care about IIIA and would treat it like paper. Use it behind the plate as a trauma pad and extra protection.
Are you planning on reviewing the 3S9M’s? Really interested in getting myself a set. Would like to see how they perform. Thanks!

Hey man. Im looking at this plate and an LTC 22605. What one do you think would be a better choice? The LTC would cost me a little bit more money.
@BuffRANGE
6 ай бұрын
In all honesty I can't say until I demo one. I have only tested one LTC product, and it was pretty decent, but it was an NIJ 04 plate. They build nice stuff, but are they really double the cost better than these?
Interesting result... maybe hypervelocity brings diminishing results... would be interesting to see what a 30-378wtby would do, given that it can send a 130gr bullet at over 4000 fps
Not bad performance considering the price, but they probably could do with better strikeface lamination. I think this is solid an entry level plate.
@Riname-K
10 ай бұрын
I think that’s just a limitation of the E-glass backing. It’s not as much of a consolidated sheet surface like a sheet of UHMWPE or even UD to laminate to. Not sure if I’m describing it right but hopefully you’ll know what I mean. It’s about in line with the RMA 1155 (video I watched for reference was recorded two years ago as of this comment) where the E-glass backing frays off during dissection. But yeah these are economy plates, only so much you can do while keeping the cost low and attractive.

@@nomad155 Level 4 basically futureproofs users from threats that overspecs level 3/3+ plates whether it's the projectile/caliber itself or higher velocity. Also plays a part in martial peparedness for foreign invasion or insurgency. Also budgeting. Level 4 plates are much cheaper and easier to enter into body armor than level 3 ceramic plates which can cost twice as much as common level 4 plates in the civilian market.
@nomad155

@@Riname-K oh I'm not against getting lvl 4! It's just Op's wording on they could do better, which I understand, but when the worst threat you'll get is a handgun round, and that in it of itself is rare, the armor does the job perfectly I say
I’d love to see the 4SSS2s performance as well.

Rightfully so. Many people harp on "overpenetration" and then think a round that barely makes it 9" in gel is going to work, when there's a lot of data out there that says you really need 12-18". Most definitely don't carry FMJ in pistol calibers, but to me it's funny that most think 5.7 will "overpenetrate"

I don't have much of a routine. I follow an online trainer's program, but some weeks I don't have time to do what she's programmed. I end up doing a lot of Crossfit style workouts. I like deadlifting, squats, and presses. I also like picking up heavy sandbags, and stuff like that. I still occasionally go for runs. I probably would be a lot "bigger"/stronger if I focused more on progressive overloading more.
