There's a photo of i believe one of these plates with an impact from a 7.62x54mmR round from an SVD Sniper rifle The ukrainian soldier only had a bruise on his back

I would be interested in seeing it drop tested first, but still fantastic performance from these plates especially for the weight and thickness.

This is super odd ball. Isnt the vanilla 4800 suppose to do more? I mean the LV is the FBI HRT version of the 4800 that ditches the foam. I guess this is kinda like the E-SAPI performance varies lot to lot.

Awesome video Matt - thinking about the Bills player Damar Hamlin that died from a hit on the football field, what do think happens to someone wearing armor like this that survives getting shot but is absorbing all of that energy. Is there a way to quantify that? I'm thinking broken ribs, liver punch like MMA has never seen all the way up stopped heart.

From what I remember he had a heart condition, but didn't die. Certainly there could be various after affects especially with larger caliber shots. There's a video floating around where a guy took at .308 point blank while standing on one foot, and just kept talking like nothing happened. I'm not sure if there are any statistics on BFD long term affects. I think I've seen it stated somewhere that no one has died from BFD against a round that an armor panel was meant to stop. If anything prioritize lower BFD performance on plate choice if that's a concern.

Have you ever done a test on the Hesco 4400 MC level 4 plate? I have looked for it but it might just be lost in the tubes of you. They're a little on the heavy side but have had my eye on replacing my L210 with the 4400 since it seems like a much more capable plate for the money.

Hey great video and great test as always. I have a quick question I can’t seem to find this exact plate whenever I search “hesco 4800 lv4 low visibility plates” all it brings up is the 4800 plates. Those aren’t the same right the regular 4800 are thicker? If you have the proper link or something I would greatly appreciate it if you can guide me in where to find this specifc plate. Thanks

Yes. Their L210 stops that round but it doesn’t hurt to ask them if they have official testing

@@Halal_Dan Drop tests aren't solely meant to test for drops specifically, rather, anything that can cause the ceramic to fracture. Regardless, "Don't drop your PPE" is great in theory, but when you're actually wearing it, trips, falls, bumps, smacks, strikes, will happen eventually. This plate not being intended for the same degree of durability not withstanding, mind. Just speaking generally.

I get not doing the NIJ drop on these... but I really REALLY would have liked to see these drop tested in a plate carrier.... obviously theres a lot of variables between carriers but at least a popular one like the JPC, SPC, or LV 119 would have been nice. Ideally stepping down from fully loaded placard to empty placard to slick. These are exactly the same as the regular 4800s except for the foam. so frankly the only thing I would have been interested in seeing is a drop test

Pro tip: Don't drop your plates.

So the takeaway from this video is HESCO makes good plates. L210 to the higher end ranges, all are worth buying.

All depends on your mission. I would argue the 1092 from RMA is superior to the L210 and the 1192 is better than the 4800 albeit 1 lb heavier.

Maybe the Dragon Skin from Stealth Armor as I know he was looking to use/license the ceramic Adept is using. The RMA 1192 is close but falls on the M993 performance.

I've made this list based on what I've tested, and if "BEST" is encompasses threats, weight, and value, then this is pretty much what I got in Level IV: Adept Colossus US Military XSAPI RMA 1192 Militech RF3 Black Label Stealth Armor Systems Dragon Skin or Hexar Solid Spartan Armor Hercules Xtreme (formally Ares) Hesco 4800 US Military ESAPI RMA 1165 Hesco 4601 Highcom 4S17M RMA 1155 Botach Battle Steel Level IV (Longfri Plate) LAPG Level IV or similar (foam edges, bare min budget recommendation)

Seams like any of those would knock the shit out of you

Check out the shellback lightweight plates they are multi curve made in USA they are normally like 450 each but some site has them on sale for 267 each and they only weigh 5.7lbs!!
