Bowe said Hide was the hardest puncher he ever faced. He also said that Hide had him out on his feet at one point in the fight and when that happened he felt a little desperate and decided he had to let loose and go for the KO.

This fight is just like Ali vs Bob Foster. A fighter who was faster but simply couldn’t take the punches from the heavier man

I so remember that so so very well. Hide kinda jus fell apart out of the blue but not before he walloped BDB with some hurtful snapping punches that can STILL be heard decades later

Super brave, if hed of given it and said ive got 4 rounds and just took the risk and emptied the gas tank i recon hed have won, Id like to see more of herbie interviews, what hes doing now he was a tuff SOB, would have had a chance against holyfield, and smaller heavyweights, hes got a good life story if ups and downs would have like to heard it in his own words

Herbie Hide knocked out Michael Bentt for the title. Bent had knocked out Tommy Morrison for the vacant title.

When Hide went down initially in the 3rd this was surely psychological? He simply seemed to fall apart. A shame Hide was a good fighter and boxed lovely at times.

That's an interesting take, and I don't disagree. I just find it interesting how some fighters excelled as medium to smallish heavyweights, while others did not. Evander Holyfield comes to mind.

He wasn’t too small for heavyweight division. Tyson,Holyfield,Uysk,Wilder were in his same weight range and were champs his chin wasn’t good for that division

If the games were in the late eighties or early nineties, we would have seen Lewis lying on the ground as McCall dropped him, and McCall was much weaker than Tyson at the time. Conclusion Boyie had a meeting against Lewis in the Olympics before professionalism and despite losing points, his performance was much stronger than Lewis.

@@dantaylor7344 Bowe didn’t duck Tyson, they didn’t fight because neither of them wanted the fight made since they grew up together and were friends. Bowe also beat Holyfield twice which was something Tyson couldn’t do once.

Bowe choosing the smaller, lighter man instead of Lennox. I have to say Bowe's technique was an shambles.

@@greenfields1221 Yes they did. McCall was a mandatory in the contract that Bowe and Lewis signed. Same thing when Bowe and Mercer signed and Jesse Ferguson was a tune-up in their contract. You can literally look it up easily and it's on rummy's corner. Both the British and US commentary even said this at the end of the McCall fight. Jim Lampley said there goes the Bowe fight in March. What more proof do you need a link?
