Amazing that before the 1990's Britain only had one world heavyweight champion and that was Bob Fitzsimmons more than 90 years previously. Then all of a sudden we had Lewis, Bruno, Bentt, Hide, and Akinwande all in one decade

Yes, but all of those dudes you mentioned other than Lewis weren't real heavyweight champs, they are titlists manipulated by Don King's talent and never were considered the real champion. Bentt, Hide, and Akinwande held only the WBO title which was not even recognized the way it is today - rather it was more like general #1 contender status for the other 3 organizations. Bruno's was more legit as it was the WBC strap, but even then he won it from McCall, who won it from Lennox, who hadn't "beat the man who beat the man", rather pulled it from the trash when "Chicken Bowe" (LOL) ducked him, but he wasn't the true champion - I believe Big George was still the lineal champion when all the titles were splintered apart.

The British boxing public, which initially refused to accept Lennox Lewis because he’d fought for Canada in two Olympics, had to hold its nose and coalesce behind Lennox when they saw what Tyson did to Bruno (2x), what bowe did to Hyde and what Lennox did to akinwande. They were desperate for a British champ. All the fighters you mentioned - except for Lennox and Bruno at a stretch - were levels below elite. In the 90s, the strata were: 1) Holyfield, Tyson, Lewis and Bowe (in any order), 2) Michael Moorer, George Foreman, Tommy Morrison (in any order) 3) Ray Mercer, Frank Bruno, Klitschko, Andrew Golota, Axel Schultz, Shannon Briggs (in any order).

Any chance of the full prizefighter tournaments being uploaded please? I think the prizefighter format would be a great way to start off boxing again once this lock down is eased, : ) especially since there will probably wont be fights between boxers of different nationalities.

Yeah I remember that fight. Herbie made a brave effort against Bowe but was ultimately out matched. However I heard Bowe say years later that Herbie Hide was the hardest puncher he ever fought.

Will never understand why Hide didn't drop to cruiser weight. He'd have been devastating.

The weight limit for cruiser before (i think 2003) was 13 stone 8lbs (190lbs) So maybe too big a drop for him. Today the limit as you know is 200lbs, 14 stone 4lbs. I think it changed around the time when Roy Jones Jr managed to win a World Title at Heavyweight against John Ruiz.

Michael Bentt was put in a coma by this guy and inflicted with brain damage. This was his last fight, and only his first title defense.

I know Bent beat morrison with a wild fury of punches and morrison was probably hungover or not prepared with his lifestyle which is sad really cause I liked tommy. If a prepared morrison would have fought Hide .Morrison would have knocked hide out early.Hide left his hands way too low and left hook would have crushed him.Thats if Tommy trained right and was prepared .

No. Michael Bennett suffered a serious brain injury and had to retire after this fight. It looks odd because he had no control over his body and he was trying to stay upright but balance was carrying him forward.

@@markydan1232 I re-watched this because of your comment and I'm not sure why I thought it was a dive. The count still seems a little sharp for a defending 'world' champion, though. I know it shouldn't make a difference, but it does.
