RIP to both of these guys. Morrison and Scott both struggled with drug and alcohol problems, both big white guys who lived in Kansas City, both started their careers undefeated with a bunch of KOs, both died in their early 40’s. Both could have had much better careers, Morrison especially could have and should have had a legacy on a level similar to Holyfield. It’s such a shame that he isn’t a household name today. He was such a damn good boxer. Moral of the story is be smart with the ladies, don’t drink too much and stay the fuck away from hard drugs

Morrison made a HUGE improvement between the Toia fight and this one. For the Toia fight he didn't move much. He looked heavy in his footwork and his head/body movement (he would have been an easy target for a top fighter). In this fight he was lighter, moving better, and avoiding punches. Yeah, he got a little sloppy just before he knocked Scott down, but for most of the fight he looked a lot better than the previous fight. Morrison was really close to being an all time great, but he was never able to quite put it all together. His defense was never better than mediocre, and he didn't have the best chin in the world - so when he did get hit hard he went down. I'd put him in the Top 6 or so for the 90's, but he never reached his full potential.

I notice a comment posted by GQ41178 which he says "Tommy is already shot by this point". I've seen him make this same statement on a few other Morrison fights which took place after his loss to Michael Bentt. This is not an accurate statement Morrison was in a rebuilding stage of his career. He took some fights against lesser opponents and didn't look the best in the world but 3 fights later he fought Lennox Lewis. Although he lost to Lewis he did make it through 6 rds which is as good as any of the contenders which faced Lewis at this time, some were former and future champions. Bruno 7 rds, Jackson 8, Butler 5, Akinwande 5, Golota 1, Briggs 5, Grant 2, Botha 2, Tyson 8, Vitali Klitscho 6.Go to remember Lewis was the best in the division at this time and one of the all-time greats.

He was drunk and these kids were trying to play ball in the street or something (remember, this is Kansas City we are talking about) and there was a tree branch that had fell that was blocking the way so Brian decided to move it and when he threw it up in the yard to get it out of street he hit one of the kids with it and the kids mother freaked out and called the police. Attacking and then when an opponent gets toward the ropes they stop the attack and lay on the outside of the punches. Its a fairly easy mistake to make for a pressure fighter and it takes lots of training and experience to get rid of that habit and sometimes you never get rid of it. Watch Frazier Ramos. Being a pressure fighter is the hardest type of fighter to be. You have to stay all the way inside and constantly press.

He did have defence, he could slip and block shots and did so plenty of times in this fight. Some of his best knockouts/knockdowns came from counters, against a number of guys he very effectively blocked a right hand and then snapped out a left hook. He obviously isn't going to be remembered as a defensive master, and in the 2nd round of this fight he was reckless and seemed impatient to end the fight, but he had decent all round skills as far as a top level boxer goes.

Morrison got stopped a few times against big hitters and usually once he was already a bit gassed (he clearly had a bit of a stamina problem that he couldn't overcome throughout his career), and Tyson himself of course proved not to have the strongest chin in the division when he shipped combinations of strong, clean punches.
