This was my first time seeing Ross purrity and he put on a great performance! To give an already established and more experienced fighter in Tommy morrison the kind of contest he did was very impressive. And Purrity's string of great performances continued with Jorge gonzalez and Joe hipp!

Fair decision. I thought Morrison won six rounds to four, but the two knockdowns scored by Purrity evened things up on points.

Lewis didn't KO Morrison, he jabbed on his cut until fight was stopped. Not particularly that impressive even though I said Lewis was the best boxer ever. Ray Mercer on the other hand, took out Morrison after he gassed out.

Tommy is resting in the ground in reality but here he is swinging away. Everything is happening again.... Every drop of sweat... If you have old parents or young children then FILM THEM!!!!! TRUELY AMAZING.... Imagine life was a simulation 😮😮😮😮

Look at it this way: Morrison had a bunch of singles for RBI and Puritty hit 2 home runs for his RBI... or look at it another way: Morrison kicked field goals for his points, while Puritty scored a couple touchdowns for his. (Both resulting in a tie.)

Morrison was a good boxer and an excellent puncher. He was fast, can slip a punch, was tough, and can get a guy out of there. He was very tight which I think effected his stamina and left himself open when looking for the big punch. But every fighter has pros and things they can work on. I would have loved to see Morrison work with Emanuel Stewart. He was still so young and had much left in him. Very sad. Purity was tough as nails with a good punch and a chin of granite. Much respect to both warriors.

Tommy aged very quickly after 24yrs old! Just think of what he could have been, if he did not party, drink, do drugs and bed women every night? He could have been a great champion, keeping the belts he had won, for a much longer time than he did? This, and the fact that he was HIV+ve, with no anti-virals on early diagnosis. Never the less, he is a role model to other young men, not to live as he did!

The narrative that Tommy had a weak chin is a myth. Chinny fighters don't get off the canvas as many times as Morrison did. His problem was poor coaching, poor management, and an insane, destructive lifestyle. Had he been coached by a Manny or Cus, learned better defense, head movement and better footwork he could have gone down as an all-time great. Hell, the guy didn't even know how to tie up in those crucial moments.

  • @GDavis49

Definitely not a myth. Knocked out by journeyman Michael Bentt, knocked down twice by Carl Williams. I wouldn’t call that a stellar chin. Not his fault though you either have a great chin or you don’t. Tommy was a good fighter but not at the level to beat the best heavyweights of that era

@@GDavis49 Fair enough. But how many times was he KO'd? And what about all the fights where he withstood significant punishment and never went down? You can bet that over 12 rounds with Big George, Tommy took some sensational punches. Yet he took it all. And I'm not claiming he has a "stellar" chin. I'm challenging the notion that he had a "weak" chin. Certainly he was no George Chuvalo, but his chin was adequate to be a world champion if he, A) had top notch training. And B) didn't spend most of his time chasing tail all over the US. IMO, Morrison had all the tools to be a top 20 HW. He just threw most of those tools away.

@@jakemitchell1671 I’d agree with most of your points but he stayed with the same trainer almost his entire career so apparently he didn’t feel the need to move on. Could he have been an elite level champion making the changes you mentioned? Possibly but of course we’ll never know.

@@GDavis49 We'll never know, for sure. But I will always contend that Tommy had the basic skills to be an elite HW. But just look at his lifestyle. The dude screwed around so much he contracted AIDS!! His biographers recount things that would make your head spin. Ten, 15 girls (and guys) a night. His appetite for sex and drugs was legendary. That NEVER coincides with elite athletic performance. Mike Tyson will admit that.
