Not taking anything away from Vidit. But, this is alot less of him winning then Hikaru basically giving it away. Like Hikaru refused to play the 2 most obvious moves. By obvious I mean natural moves. Literally a move that instantly pops in your head to make, that every single 1000 elo player in here would have played within 5-10seconds. Capture the bishop. BOTH TIMES. Which Hikaru spent in total almost 40mins on those 2 moves. Then both times made the wrong move, that anyone watching would had made in a heart beat. Which is just the top engine move. It's not like I would have made the move because I thought it was best. I would have done it with small calculation and realized I was up. Yet somehow Hikaru spending 40minutes didn't play it. Fucking nuts. This was Hikaru losing, not Vidit winning. Remind you, both times Vidit made those moves, it gave him a losing position, to the most natural moves possible. I wouldn't call that a monster strategy. Edit: excuse me 3 times Hikaru should have just captured the bishop and refused to do so. Like Hikaru played 2 blunders in this game. Which he never does. This has to be one of the worst performances I've seen from Hikaru. Like brother.....

I love the more time rule, i always hate seeing people be in a intense endgame but know they will lose because of time and it just becomes a mess, especially on the board when you can accidentally do an illegal move. 40 moves is a great idea, too, instead of every move a little time. Ensures a constant intense game rather than a spam of non moves to make up time

🎉 issue with Hikaru is not his level of play, it is his mentality. From what he has said in interviews he seems to have written off the candidates as a bit of fun where he can create content and there is no way he can win such a high level tournament while thinking that way. He was very lucky to escape from the first round without losing, too.

Don't you think vidit should have played this against nepo Because first thing, the top Russians who never play global tournaments who are currently serving as nepo's seconds would have done after this game was to run the best engine they have and analyse this thing Nepo loves ruy lopez, and now vidit can't do that against him, the person who plays this opening the best of all
