Crushing world no.3 in 29 moves | Nakamura vs Vidit | Commentary by Sagar | Candidates 2024

Спорт

How did Vidit Gujrathi manage to crush Hikaru Nakamura in 29 moves? He did it with several piece sacrifices and hunting the American Grandmaster's king. It was a brilliant show by the Indian GM and in this video we have IM Sagar Shah analyzing the game in his inimitable style.

Hikaru kept so many pieces undeveloped till the end and was stuck in defense mode for most of the match. Vidit was on top of his game. To defeat one of the tournament faves with black is something.

14:39 Hikaru: You take the chess board with you. Hikaru: Just take it. Nobody will say anything. Vidit: But I have a better set at home. Hikaru: OK you have a better set.. Atleast take the bishops Vidit: They will know if it's missing.. Plus I Have a better chess set at home. Hikaru: I am not saying it's better than what you have.. They will lose it anyway so you take it. Hikaru (devises strategies for how Vidit can take all or some of the pieces without anyone noticing): Yeah..this way.. Uhm.. No.. Ok this.. Ah OK.. Thats not.. How about.. Oh they can.. Ok.. Vidit: I can put it in my bag and we both can pretend to go to the wash room where I will slip the bishop I have into your pocket. Hikaru (calculates) : takes, takes, takes, gives.. So you will give it to me in E2 tile (of the washroom)? Vidit: Yeah I will be on F5 and if I come any closer it will be bad. Hikaru : No you can't.. My pocket will be full.. Oh wait. I thought I had something there. Vidit: the plan is good but we will have to bring it back for the next rounds.. I mean it's not the finals yet. Hikaru: Oh yeah you are right. We have to bring it back.. Yeah yeah yeah.. I don't know what the fuss is all about. (gets up walks away) Hikaru:

c6 disabled the king's bishop, one of Hikar's rare developped piece. Then Bxh3 wow. Vidit took the momentum and kept it till the end. It's a triple G for me. (Great Great Game) (Will Hikaru will make the podium?)

No matter how much good one prepares and become better at the end of the day chess will become a gave of nerves. One who is in good physical level will bring better results for the table. Look at Dubov he does calisthenics, carlsen plays football and basketball. Even Vidit can do good pull ups. One who's better physical shape will bring wonders to the game in this modern era.
