An IM spends 50 minutes comparing Kasparov and Carlsen to him, making him recall his greatest loss and trying to assert computer superiority and Anand takes it all with the utter grace. Levy's arrogance is astonishing and quite infuriating, but the interview was so incisive that we got a peek at the heart of Anand.

It is crazy to think that he is so important to the rise of chess in India, and India has 3 guys and 2 women in the candidates, dominating the world of chess in many ways. There's no denying Anand's influence. BUT People seem to quickly forget, when they tell you how many great GMs come from India, that almost 1 in 5 humans is an Indian. It's only logical that Anand being a World Champion combined with his country's population would result in so many great Indian players a generation later.

Now this is a good interview. Anand’s wisdom and experience makes for a much more interesting conversation than any of the candidates interviewed so far. Even Magnus interviews like a wet blanket. This felt like a real opportunity for Levy to seek some guidance from a mentor figure as much (if not more) as a publicity point borne from the current tourney. I love these sort of conversations; they bring such a human element to what is a game that is now dominated by logic-based systems and over-analysis.

One thing I like about him is that he is never shy about criticizing himself , most Chess players get defensive when they talk about themselve but Vishy doesn't given he is 5 times world campion . I think he is the most influential personality chess ever had . Also his longevity is incredible , I mean man is still in top 15 given his age . A absolute legend of the game and one of my fav journey any chess player ever had from becoming first Gm from India to a superstar and later to Elder sage who is now a deputy president of chess association . I have never seen a top level player being so vulnerable and sharing his emotional moments as eloquently and gracefully as Vishy did here. You can see the humaneness, the acceptance, the maturity, the Master Yoda like calmness and wisdom flowing through. Great Interview. A generational legend who powered chess like no other!!

loved it. thanks for doing it both! would add golf is a similar sport in terms of the danger/risk of blunders changing outcome quickly. “you can’t win a tournament on the first day, but you can lose it” is a saying i like. and also of course one bad shot in the end can make all the difference. (spieth at the masters…)

All sily coments aside. I love how Levi interview all these players. Of course he has a lot of these questions ready. But the way he presents them and also the types of questions he ask, how many times he probably just goes of the script, how relaxed and down to earth he is. Most of usual chess interviews are boring. What did you though of this position? did you think you gonna win? and so on an on. We want to see people behind their decisions, not a decisions behind positions. Being personal and relaxed in these interviews is what makes these interviews great. I hope you will continue to interview other chess stars including female players. Levi can you please make a deal with netflix and run Drive to survive for chess? Ehm I mean Sacrifice to survive/mate
