Not to mention needing two weeks for that foam to wear off your skin... because you only remember how impossible it is to remove from your hands AFTER you forget to wear some gloves any time you even get NEAR that foam in a can! That stuff is tenacious!
That noise from cutting the foam at the beginning was making my teeth go funny 🥴
That's a very convincing result, mate. And you make it look easy, too. Next time I change the seat of my bike I will follow your steps. Looking forward to your next episode with vinyl and stitching. Günter/Nürnberg

Great video del, I’ve been watching since you started the original street fighter years and years ago, since I was a teenager, alittle tip for the unconventional use of expanding foam, i have used cling film before, wrapped tightly around the component, a small hole stick the hose in, the foam foams up, but less “crazy”, and it also is a lot more dense/smoothable. Great video my friend!

Thanks for the great tip mate, That's awesome !
Im sure there's experts out there will have something to scoff at but lad that looks well, fair play to you. I nearly fell over when i saw the kitchen devil come out😂😂, my mother would use nothing else god rest her, i've two of them in the drawer they're years old. I've seen her cutting turnips with them and the blade bending like a willow😂. Good vid lad, looking forward to seeing it covered.
Hi Penny and Del - awesome video! Yeah, that expanding foam can make a real mess - you kept things admirably clean! Outstanding job on the base and the seat foam - I was really impressed! I've seen what you've turned your hand to for the first time over the years and I have no doubt you'll make a great seat cover... I am looking forward to it. Take care, dear friends. Be well and ride safe.

Thank you so much mate for such kind words of encouragement and faith, it's pretty daunting to make the seat cover as it's not just straight stitch lines, it's curves and pockets and lots of other technical stuff I don't understand!!... but am copying the original seat, so it's not like I've got to design patterns... Trimmers are expensive and this is a budget build, so it's well worth having a go myself just this once! Have a great week, keep safe, D&Px
Paintage, weldage and some scrimmage! DIY bike parts are the things I always wait for! Cheers :)
Nice job. My mother is an auto trimmer by trade, she always used our old electric carving knife to cut the foam to the initial shape much faster.

Yes indeed, I actually used to have one, can't remember the last time I used it and can't remember where it is! Shame, as they are amazingly useful!
It was one of your other bikes you did before with the laminated sleeping mat idea that inspired me to do the same with my last bike, the gs500 army bike. One good point to note is that letting both parts after spraying with glue is to let them flash off before putting together for the ultimate bond. Great result once again, Del. I'll have to send you a photo of the FJ it's coming along nicely now. Hopefully, I should be going out on it this week. I have not been on it as you know since the accident last October.

Yes indeed mate, always let the thinners evaporate out of the glue and spray both halves as it's a contact adhesive! I'd love to see a photo of the FJ, perhaps drop it in the email if you get a moment mate, god bless, D&Px

Vynil is a one way stretch material so you need to fit it with cut shapes and stitching. If you use a product called ambla this is 2 way stretch and can be fitted (glued along the centreline say 50mm wide) and stretched over the seat base and glued and stapled on the underside
@Moonfleet41

Ive ordered a product listed as "4 way stretch motorcycle seat vinyl" from a motorcycle parts supplier..! i imagine thats what you're refering to as "2 way".. and i will be stitching in the same panels as the factory seat.. just cut to the new shape.! Should be fun.
Delboy, when you whipped out that knife, I just KNEW that you were about to cut up a tin can, saw on a hammer, then slice a tomato really thin. Imagine my dismay when all you cut was some seat foam... You'll never become a knife salesman this way!

Very interesting stuff, Del. I once dated a girl whose own twin topsides were mostly made of the same stuff. The carving work was spectacular but not quite as good as yours. Hope you both are doing well there. Still cold and windy, but riding days are coming soon! 🏍️👍🏍️

I still think my idea, 'just putting the foam nozzle down the back of one's Jockeys & hitting the fizz button whilst sat on the bike' remains viable; although any mold-release-aid 'stubble burning' beforehand must be done with care, to avoid painful flash-burns or even sparking outrage among the local pubic. (When that beast 'comes on pipe', Velcro-crotch leathers may help too! Y'all : )xx

Thank you mate, I've taught myself that it's the only route to a half successful outcome... we'd all like things to be easy and simple, but they rarely are, and as we find out with jobs like this, there are skills needed for most things and you can only learn them if you're patience and have the humility to absorb information.
Thought you were having a tasty whipped cream treat near the start.

Exactly that Rick, it ain't daft if it works! I had a great suggestion from one viewer to cover the seat base in cling film and inject the foam underneath it, thus reducing air bubbles and making it denser, which is a brilliant idea that I'll be using in the future... this is why I love the internet, for all it's faults, we can learn from each other! Have a great week, keep safe, D&Px
At the beginning…. Seeing the foam spray, mind says , that’s sticky stuff….. are you nuts ??? Hard stuff to sit on….Watching your progress… that’s interesting… long progress… now that’s something I don’t see !!!! lol…. Curious what finished material gonna look like. That’s really kwel!!
