Hi All, well you asked me to film the moving and setting up of the new workshop and this is part one. All went as well as expected but there were some problems which will cause a delay before I can get turning again.

Hello Mike. Please don’t worry too much about how everything is going. These things never run smoothly. And they always get sorted out in the end. I can say that from a great deal of experience. By the time my parents had been married 45 years they had “inhabited” 40 houses, across countries and even continents. We kids used to count their moves by Easter’s and Christmas’s. And you will look back (as we did/do) and have a good laugh at the absurdity of it all. Take your time, look after yourself and your family and enjoy your new home. We, who watch your videos, are happy to wait.

Telling a wood worker he has too much wood is like telling a seamstress she has too much fabric 😂🤣. Oh how I love my fabrics 🤫🤭. Moving is a big task, getting reorganized is as well but worth the time and effort. Good to see your move is coming along just fine and the kids off exploring, take care John and family. You'll get it all sorted in due time. At least John had the good grace to turn up and he actually helped once he got his head around what needed to be done. It has been my experience that a lot of neighbours wouldn't bother unless there was something in it for them. Your son was wonderful, I can see you count yourself blessed with people like these in your life. Well done on a hard day's yakka, but it's not over yet! The fun bit of setting up your workshop is yet to come. Cheers, Mike.

You teased us right to the very end with the bottles above the garage door. I was sure you were going to forget them. For all that struggle and hard work... for me it's the sound of the tail lift that wins this video. If that doesn't get sampled by some music producer and appear on a smash hit in the next few months, then I think I might have to just do it myself. In fact the whole soundtrack is filled with musical gold. Compressor blast hi hats , box thumping bass drums, sweepy floor snares, torque driver whirrs its all there...there's probably even enough vocals to write all the words to something like "Moving into dem ol' shed delivery blues..." or maybe its just a dance floor filla "Tail lifted"...

I'd like to have been there to help. I could have lugged smaller things to and from the moving van. Thanks Dana, I have since realised that I don't have enough wood and have just bought some more 😀
Hi Mike, How's the old saying go? Man plans, God laughs..... I know all about collecting stuff over the years and how the empty space fills so quickly. In my garage make-over I too installed a shed in my driveway to store wood & items & tools not used often. I thought I would have some extra empty space available but I'm looking for more space and have concluded that I simply have too much darn crap. Time to weed. One of my long time mottos is, " If I have not used or had a need for something in a previous years time, then out it goes." It never fails that within a month after, I'll have a need for what just got tossed. LOL. That's either Murphy's Law, or, life. Good luck with your shed build, and in the mean time, use this time to rest up and weed out. Oh yeah, your son is definitely " a big boy " as you said. Take care and keep turning. Bill Riley.

The only good thing about moving is it forces you to reorganize your stuff. A lot of the time we stagnate in the set up we have gets cramped and dirty. This is of course my sisters attitude who used to move once a year or more.

Must admit, this place is keeping a lot cleaner than my last one which I like 😀
A huge undertaking to move a shop. I cannot imagine moving my own shop. I may not have as much turning stock as you, but I likely have a lot more flat stock and sheet goods. Turning club members mention trees which have been taken down and who wants the wood. I have to resist the temptation, too little room. I would also have been frustrated that the contractor did not turn up. Good that you finally found out why. The new shop suddenly looks so small with all the items piled up. A lot of future work to get things organized before you can start turning again. At least the new house has good views and the dogs have a lot of room to run around, very important. Dave.

It is David, always family first and we all love it here, the shop will be sorted and in a few months it will just be a memory 😀
Thank goodness for wheels and hydraulic cylinders when moving!!

Would not have done it without them 😀
Mike , Good luck , I moved home 2 1/2 years ago from a home with a garage and 3 sheds , I now have a home with a double garage with a room above , Still not sorted everything out , It's a up hill battle for me with elder life health problems but I am trying when able , I look forward to part 2 .

Yay! Finally, an opportunity to find all those little bits and screws that roll under the furniture.

I was laughing at every shelf they moved, and the amount of wood chips that kept appearing. I'm sure whomever lives there next will be finding them for decades 😂

Haha yep there were a lot! 😀
Strangely, after watching this, any thoughts I might have had of moving again have been completely dispelled. Best Wishes, Brendan.

You and me both! 😄
I'm not sure I would say a bomb hit the old place or the new. Maybe both. LOL. Good move getting a van with a lift. I have a hoist on my Utility, but you have to hook up everything with slings. etc. I'm in my dream shop. Next time I move is when I'm in a pine box. Too much hassle and stress for me. Chill and take it easy. Trying to make videos should be at the bottom of the list. We can wait ☺

Thanks so much Pete, the tail lift was a no brainer, no way could we man handle a 200kg lathe into the back of a van 😀
That's so frustrating about the shed not going up. Let's just hope they show up on the weekend. I'd be grinding my teeth over that! Universal disappointment as that stuff happens here in the States, too.
