Mike this is happening all over KZread. One of your colleagues, Jim Sprague has solved it by never mentioning in the title of any video that there is a potential prize within it. So he makes sure he tells everyone in advance that "next week's video will be the giveaway". Then he doesn't mention it in any of the titles for subsequent videos. He also makes sure to tell people in the video that they may be contacted by scammers. He explains in detail exactly how the winners will be notified and he never makes any charge for postage on the giveaway. If anybody asks for money to cover delivery, you can guarantee it is a scam. Hope this helps to get these leeches away from your site!!

2 years, mate, fantastic!! Regarding echo reduction, generally you have two ways to attack it: 1) Soft surfaces -- curtains, rugs, foam on the walls and/or ceiling 2) Non-parallel surfaces -- rotate shelves to be at angles, irregular pyramid shapes on walls and ceilings, etc. Noise absorbing panels tend to hit both of these with their weird angles and soft foam. But you could also add a thick rug or rubber mat to the floor, hang thick rugs along both walls or the ceiling. Doesn't need to be shag carpet, but something that has a centimeter or two to give would be better than most "shop" rugs you'd think of. Even things like coats or leather aprons hung on the walls would help. Egg carton/foam glued to the ceiling could be a cheap way to get a lot of sound absorption as well... 🤔 I think I've also seen cases where people built second/inner walls with insulation between something like a rock sheet inner surface and usually a brick or concrete "real" wall, as it gives you a less-sound-reflective surface. But I suspect that's not necessary, and adding an extra 1-2cm wall thickness all around seems like an awful lot of work tbh, when you could just hang some foam around or something. (PS: Not an expert, just someone who's read a lot about it from people who are experts.)

Nice use of a rectangular piece of wood where you want to take advantage of the whole thing. Me again on finishes: I would toss the Howard's Feed n' Wax, it is a non-drying oil (orange oil) with a relatively soft wax (beeswax) and doesn't last at all on anything that will be handled or wiped down. We now have walnut oil + microcrystalline wax finishes: so, a drying oil + a really resistant wax, for my pieces this is a superior combo on all counts.

How nice seeing you in your new workshop Mike. You did good being away from the lathe after a couple of weeks. The oak burl platter looks great. The pattern looks like the footprints left by a squirrel that ran up the side of the oak tree. Perfect!
