Looks like a very nice bandsaw. Good that it came with magnetic switch. I had to upgrade my bandsaw switch from manual to magnetic. I see some bandsaws with the slot facing forward and some with the slot on the side. Must be manufacturer preference. Mine is on the side. You did added the pin in the slot but did not mention why is it used. For your viewers, without the pin one side of the slot may be higher or lower than the other side. It is the nature of the casting. It was likely ground before the slot was machined. A local turning friend did not have the pin in her table and the two sides of the slot were out by about 1/16in. Her slot was on the side so the far side of the slot being a tad higher sometimes caused the wood to stop as she was cutting. After inserting the pin both sides of the slot are at the same level. A long time ago I was at a woodworking show. Alex Snodgrass who works for Carter, the bandsaw accessory company, gave a demonstration on tuning the bandsaw. He has KZread videos of the demonstration. Highly recommended. A couple of his key items a) The blade tracking should be so just behind the gullet is at the middle of the crown of the wheel. b) Without using the fence, make a manual cut in a piece of scrap wood about 6in long. Cut as straight as you can by hand. About half way through stop the saw. Compare the line of the cut with the mitre slots. This is telling you how the saw is tracking. Setting the slots to be parallel with the blade is a static setup, but when the saw is rotating things can be very different. I did this. I did not have sufficient movement in the bolts for the table to the trunnions. I had to also loosen the trunnions to get sufficient movement so that my saw will cut to be parallel to my mitre slots. You will have a lot of fun with the new bandsaw. I know your old bandsaw was often not up to your needs. Dave.

Watching a tool review over breakfast, could it get any better. Nice sturdy bandsaw and a decent clearance for larger material. Slap a thin layer of wood wax on the steel table, makes feeding wood through a lot smoother. I do the same on the bed of my thickness planer. Have fun😊

Mike did you build it then build it again on camera. I reckon you did because you were aware of all the pitfalls. To be able to do that is a skill of immense patience. I couldn't imagine building and dismantling a piece of IKEA furniture... Something occurred to me. Metalworking tools are made of metal, woodworking tools are mostly made of metal... but metal is made by burning coal (wood) and earth together, so it feels like a full circle. Poetry. Thanks for making this, and for anyone that actually needs to assemble one of these it's going to be gold dust. Are you going to be doing a, "how to unwind a new coiled-up blade, without it chopping your entire shop in half" video?
@MikeHolton
Ай бұрын
Haha so close to the truth, this was the process: Read the instructions quickly.... Find the parts needed Re read the instructions Set up cameras Start filming the section Do two or three takes while I try to get the names of parts right and re re read instructions Re do the take when I figure out I've made a mistake. It too me a long time to make haha I've heard the best way to unwind a blade is to throw it and run lol 😀

A good method for setting your upper and lower guides is to use dollar bill(pound note) wrapped from the sides of the blade and around the back. With the blade under correct tension close the guide against the pound note, tighten them and slide the blade up to remove the pound note.

@MikeHolton
Ай бұрын
Haha thanks Kerstin, the manuals do need a bit of a makeover lol 😀
I have the original BS300, and was wondering how this new unit gets an extra 2 inches of depth of cut while using the same size blades and wheels. Cleverly, they have added a little plastic cap that allows the blade guide to move through the top case yet stay safe, which allows the deeper capacity. I'm tempted to upgrade: the built-in base cabinet is nice, as is the micro-adjustment, but that front bar for the fence sticks out way beyond the table, and I would be forever hitting myself on it in my small workshop.
@MikeHolton
Ай бұрын
I guess it would depend where it was placed and at what orientation, mine is now side on so hopefully I will not have that issue 😀
