Happy 2nd birthday, Wishu!
And bye bye, Wishu...
Do you remember cute lion cub Wishu? He was born on 21/09/21. So he has celebrated his 2nd birthday a few days ago.
Flashbacks copied of my video :
He liked to play with his mom Lorena and to cuddle with grandma Kolya.
Wishu was fascinated by the storks nest above the lions' enclosure and tried to reach it by climbing the cave.
And he loved playing with his rope ball!
Look at him now! A handsome 2-years-old lion, ready to go to Diergaarde Blijdorp = Rotterdam zoo (NL), today, 26/09/23, and hopefully have a family of his own one day. That would be another success for the breeding programme of the endangered Asiatic lions.
We all will miss him so much, but as The Netherlands are a neighbouring country, we will be able to visit him!
22/09/23. I arrived quite early in Zoo Planckendael. When l got to the lions' enclosure, dad Jari was up on the cave and mom Lorena was lying at the back. I didn't see Wishu and it was him particularly that l wanted to see that day, because he was going to leave for the Dutch Zoo in a few days. So l was glad l had been waiting patiently until suddenly Wishu appeared.
Sadly, this is all the footage that l have. I went back in the afternoon, hoping to get more, but the lions were not in sight at that time.

Wishu has become a beautiful lion, indeed. Zoo Rotterdam has posted on Instagram about his arrival on Tuesday and the comments were all saying just that. Wishu has to stay in quarantine for 4 weeks and some people commented that they want to go see him as soon as possible. I didn't have the chance to visit Wishu as often as l did with the lions of Zoo Antwerpen, but l could follow him by the Zoo Planckendael Instagram posts. For Zoo Antwerpen, l have a bike ride to the local station and have a 15 minutes train ride. But for Zoo Planckendael, l have a bike ride to the local station, have a train ride of 40 minutes, and a bus ride of 10 minutes. l have to wait half an hour for that bus, because usually, one has just left when l arrive in Mechelen station. So that all takes much more time. It is necessary, indeed, to move Wishu to another zoo. He's growing into adulthood soon and that would certainly result in problems with his dad Jari. They want to keep Jari and Lorena as breeding couple, so Wishu has to go. Fortunately, we can go visit him in Rotterdam Zoo. I really plan to do that! And l really hope all goes well and that he'll have a family of his own one day. We are expecting the same will happen to Whisker of Zoo Antwerpen. Hopefully, we can go visit him somewhere close by as well. Thank you for your comment, Emily! 🤗👍
