Hand wiping spar varnish on wood
Big box store finish. Hand wiping spar urethane on cabinet doors using only products available in your local hardware store. pretty good results with low workload. This is my take on it, I hope it helps.

Something I learned building replicas of old sailing ships: Use a piece of a brown paper bag to "sand" the wood with. It smooths it like a 2000 grit paper, but won't go through the finish.
Looks great. I've had good luck thinning the spar urethane even more, about 50% with mineral spirits. Really helped it self level. Good work!

Should've lightly sanded with steelwool or 220 grit sand paper between coats
so hows the wipe on work with varnish?
Hey so did you use the same ratio of urethane for each coat up to the last coat, or did you use like a full strength on the last one or couple one? They look great by the way.

I didnt realize we could wipe it on. Ive been brushing it on & it isnt working well for me

Luckily ive only done a small bookcase so far.
Why is it quick & dirty? What is less good about it? Would be useful info. Also, not talking isn't great.... We'd like to know what you think about the materials & methods you're using

Its quick an dirty since I didnt take much time to do it. I used big box store varnish with no flow enhancers, I didnt use an ultra clean workspace, I didnt prep at all after staining and i didnt buff or anything afterwards.
