Make Your Own - Wipe On Varnish

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

To go along with the other finishes and stains I've shown you how to prepare for yourself (playlist below), I thought I'd add this one to the list as well. Have a look and if it's something you would like to try then I'm betting you'll be happy with the results and you'll save some money by mixing your own as well.

Old lady here working on her first project, a small craft table. After a million mistakes and fixing them I am about ready for the finish. I have watched a bunch of videos and I really really like your formula. I like the visual of the oil soaking into the little wood pores, filling them up, and then sealing them closed with the 2nd poly mixture. I am sold and will follow your method. I also like the idea of the steel wool. It is such a great polisher on silver that I am happy to apply it to wood. Awesome video.

I'm wondering why you would want to use it over paint. Beside that, probably not. The paint wouldn't allow the oil to penetrate and it would just sit there and never dry.

Ideally you would spray thin coats thus letting it dry. sand between the coats until you've built up the finish you are looking for.

@@chriscute7528 Oh, now I understood that difference.. Thank you!! I'm just searching a nice finish over a polyurethane walnut wood stained Baltic Birch..The only suggestions I had for a finish after that where 1) put on the same polyurethane but colorless wood stain, but the surface with this isn't smooth enough... and 2) put on marine varnish but with the brush is a disaster!! Maybe your way is the best way for this.....

After you sand it it leaves a whiteish film over the floor what do you do with that. Do you just wipe on more poly right over the top of it and it takes care of it kind of seems like it would but I don't know for sure or do you buff it out first and then Polly it again how come nobody talks about this huh tell me now
