Hacking: Movies vs Reality
In this video, Bradley is going to attempt to answer a question that many cybersecurity specialists have asked themselves more than once. Why on earth does hacking in Hollywood movies look so stupid?!
Also, you’ll hear some interesting stories about REAL hackers and their methods. Really cool stuff 🔥
Hope you enjoy!

This is so relatable, I was on my terminal activating a Conda environment. My brother sees it and immediately starts freaking out saying, " why are you hacking" i was so disappointed in him we have to do something about these Hollywood hacker films
Mr Robot is so underrated series but it is the most accurate to reality in terms of both hacking as well as a society with anxiety and depression.

Ur channel is amazing. Subbed.
No doubt the best informative content on KZread
1. nmap is a network scanner, not a hacking tool. 2. Security through obscurity is the reliance on secrecy as the main method of providing security. Like obfuscating your source-code, changing ports to non-standard, or creating a proprietary encryption program. It's absurd because it's mostly sticking you head in the sand wasting time, instead of focusing on actual issues. 3. It's so mind-numbing how little security measures governments and corporations employ. More people should know about it to keep them accountable, instead of shooting the messenger. Thanks for making this cool video!
As a green hat who’s learning how to hack, i can tell you right now. It’s not fun waiting hours to days to WEEKS for a brute force attack to complete (ethically ofc)
I honestly don’t know why you don’t have ten times the subs . Fantastic production value , bravo 👏

In War Games it was a backdoor to the ministry of defence. Not saying it was realistic but in the context that programmers leaving a backdoor was pretty popular even in the high ranks back in the day.

22:07 Security by obscurity is NOT the same as Security by obfuscation. As you said, security by obfuscation works by making it hard to read. Security by obscurity means that your network is secure, as long as no-one figures out the weaknesses, because you made everyone promise to keep it a secret. Which is why professionals mock it, because a hacker worth their salt *WILL* figure out those weaknesses even without being told.
What’s the music playing when you do the ‘Hackers’ portion? That shits straight club fire bro.
You have great editor
Awwww the black cat at the end. Looks just like mine.

Making mistakes on purpose is common in creative works. I recall writing a very detailed scene about the antagonist of one my works making homemade chlorine gas, something I know how to do because of my background, it was only after I wrote it that I thought "holy crap, I better change that so someone doesn't kill themselves!"... I got over twenty contacts from people telling me that scene was wrong...
17:29 Actually, back in the day they really tried to make 3D file explorer a thing It obviously didnt work, but, y'know

Biggest lie told to me was to get any password you just need to brute force
You said the first appearance of *CYBER* crime; that implies network connectivity
Nice!
So weird. I JUST watched Wargames a couple of nights ago so it's fresh in my memory. I agree that it's totally unrealistic that he would just happen to dial into the department of defense _and_ gain access so easily. But. I think the films best claim to accuracy is the prediction of deep learning. The WOPR computer does exactly what modern day deep learning algorithms do. It learns from past experience and gets better with every iteration. The film also accurately predicts and portrays neural networks quite well in that the WOPR will take in data sets and use that to inform it's learning process. I was very deep into phreaking in the early 90s. It was a fun time to be a geek.
This video is so quality.
Hacking can be as sophisticated or as simple as you want it to be. It is only limited by the hackers skill and imagination.
if you wanna impress someone type "color 02", then "tree" in windows cmd. Then put your hoodie , type furiously and say gibberish
